Nearly half of Americans are not sure God exists, according to a poll that also found divisions among the public on whether God is male or female or whether God has a human form and has control over events.
The survey conducted by Harris Poll found that 42 percent of US adults are not "absolutely certain" there is a God compared to 34 percent who felt that way when asked the same question three years ago.

Among the various religious groups, 76 percent of Protestants, 64 percent of Catholics and 30 percent of Jews said they are "absolutely certain" there is a God while 93 percent of Christians who describe themselves as "Born Again" feel certain God exists.

When questioned on whether God is male or female, 36 percent of respondents said they think God is male, 37 percent said neither male nor female and 10 percent said "both male and female."

Only one percent think of God as a female, according to the poll.

Asked whether God has a human form, 41 percent said they think of God as "a spirit or power than can take on human form but is not inherently human."

As to whether God controls events on Earth, 29 percent believe that to be the case while 44 percent said God "observes but does not control what happens on Earth".

The survey was conducted online between October 4 and 10 among 2,010 US adults.

Let me tell you something funny!

I went to church for 20 years, and never heard of "etre ne de nouveau" (born again in French); much less when I came to the States!! dry.gif

I did pray, BUT THE WRONG PRAYERS, that never got me nowhere. At this stage, I was no better than the sincere Muslim, or Buddhist, or Shintoist when it comes TO SEARCHING FOR THE TRUTH... sad.gif

Then one day, I switched TV channel to TBN (which I never watched) and they were saying a prayer. I told myself:"Well, I've tried everything, I'll give this a try too... wink.gif

THEN INSTANTLY I KNEW SOMETHING HAD CHANGED IN ME!!!

I knew: that there was a God
that he was male
that he was in control
that he came in human form (Jesus) just as the Bible teaches (even though I never really read the BIble, had to drop it because made no sense to me... sad.gif
that what the Bible was saying was the truth! wub.gif

Since I could not PUT A NAME on my new condition, I decided to keep on watching TBN; and I finally blush.gif found out what was "right" with me biggrin.gif :

I WAS BORN AGAIN!!!

Then, something told me to call them and to repeat the prayer of faith with all the fibers of my being and I did!

.... I could not stop crying all the time I was praying on the phone!!! excl.gif happy.gif
I remember asking myself: "Why am I crying like that???" While at the other end the lady congratulated me, saying that angels in Heaven were rejoycing because one more sheep came back home, I kept crying! laugh.gif

When you become born again, you receive A REVELATION! cool.gif wub.gif happy.gif
