It's funny to hear all the glee in the media over a frenzied stock market, especially since it's running on borrowed money...or, is it borrowed time?

With the general indebtedness of individuals and the U.S., how much longer does anyone suppose it can keep going?

Wasn't a rebellious Israel flying high every time, right up until the hammer of God's judgement fell? Prosperity has a God-given purpose...so does suffering.

May the church, and our nation, repent and turn to Christ while we still have the light of day.

In Him,

Mike

The Dow Jones industrial average scored its first close above 12,000 Thursday as Wall Street, contending with fresh data that pointed to a weakening economy, managed to hold on to a slim advance.

A Lost Tribe of Israel Celebrates its Return
14:16 Oct 17, '06 / 25 Tishrei 5767

Hundreds of veteran Bnei Menashe immigrants from northeastern India gathered in Kiryat Arba this week to celebrate their return to Israel and the Jewish people after 27 centuries of exile.

Revelation 7
2Then I saw another angel coming up from the east, having the seal of the living God. He called out in a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm the land and the sea: 3"Do not harm the land or the sea or the trees until we put a seal on the foreheads of the servants of our God." 4Then I heard the number of those who were sealed: 144,000 from all the tribes of Israel.
5From the tribe of Judah 12,000 were sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben 12,000,
from the tribe of Gad 12,000,
6from the tribe of Asher 12,000,
from the tribe of Naphtali 12,000,
from the tribe of Manasseh 12,000,
7from the tribe of Simeon 12,000,
from the tribe of Levi 12,000,
from the tribe of Issachar 12,000,
8from the tribe of Zebulun 12,000,
from the tribe of Joseph 12,000,
from the tribe of Benjamin 12,000.
The Great Multitude in White Robes
9After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10And they cried out in a loud voice:
"Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb." 11All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12saying:
"Amen!
Praise and glory
and wisdom and thanks and honor
and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever.
Amen!"
13Then one of the elders asked me, "These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?"

14I answered, "Sir, you know."

And he said, "These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Somethings in the wind and the Fed knows it, which is why there is speculation that there will be another interest rate hike the next time they meet.

Clearly the Fed is not comfortable with they way our economy is going even though Wall Street seems to think differently. Then it occured to me what is being written on the wall, so-to-speak.

The treasury yield curve between the 3 month T bills and 10 year notes has been inverted for over three months now meaning the yield in interest rates for the 3 month bills is higher than the 10 year notes. Historically this pattern had portend of an economic recession. Basically, folks who are buying up the 3 months notes are saying they have more faith in the US economy short term wise rather than the long term and are gambling for a pay off in the short term.

But the real critical issue is the question of "who is buying up those notes?" and that is what I think the Fed is worried about. Turns out foreign investors are buying up those short term US Treasury bills, pouring their money into our economy, but there's a trade imbalance and a strengthening dollor (due to high interest rates) are keeping US goods and services relatively expensive. In other words, the US deficit is expected to increase due to the selling of our debt to foriegn nations and raising interest rates, which in turns fuel inflation pressures which in turn prompts the raising of even higher interest rates.

The result is a slippery slope that the Fed has to somehow keep it's footing by raising interest rates. It's almost like racing to the bottom with inflation verses the investor's buying up T-Bills.

The founders of this nation never intended to sell our debt to foreign countries, at least that was President Andrew Jackson's desire. If anything it was at least to the US public citizens.

...slippery slope....

Why that reminds me of a joke.

A well known politician, let's say her first name is Hilary, is suddenly stricken by a fatal death (yes death is usually fatal, haha). She arrives to the pearly gates to meet St. Peter and is expecting to go in. However St. Peter stops her and says "Not so fast, you need to make a choice to spend all of eternity in Heaven or in the other place." Hilary says "I am pretty sure I want to be in heaven." So St. Peter say's "okay spend a week in heaven and then a week in hell and then tell me where you want to go." So Hilary agrees.

The first week in heaven is peaceful, quite playing harps and singing songs and Hilary thinks this is pleasant, but her week ends and she is off to hell. There she meets her old freinds and there's a wild party with lobster, steak and champagne the whole time she's there and she thinks This is great!. Well, her week ends and she meets St. Peter who asks "Well, did you decide?" Hilary says "yes, I want to go to the other place with my friends" and St. Peter asks "Are you sure?" in which Hilary firmly responds "Yes"

Well Hilary arrives in Hades and it is absolutely dreary! All her freinds are miserable slaving in chain gangs breaking rocks in unbearable heat, and she exclaims "Where's the party, the champagne, the steak and lobster?" At which, a gloomy politician soul answers "The campaign is over, you had cast your vote!" tongue.gif
