Speculation mounts over Solana leaving job
19.10.2006 - 17:36 CET | By Mark Beunderman
EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - Speculation is mounting that Javier Solana, the EU's top diplomat, will step down for health reasons with the former Swedish, Slovak and Austrian prime ministers reportedly first in line to succeed him.

Intense rumours about an end to the Solana era have been circulating in Brussels for the last couple of weeks, with several reasons being cited for his possible imminent retirement.

One version says it became clear to the Spaniard during the Lebanon crisis in the summer that he could never really act on behalf of the EU, with member states refusing to give him a clear mandate.

Mr Solana also had to recently admit that his efforts to get Iran to halt uranium enrichment - which he had exceptionally handled on behalf of all UN veto powers - have stalled.

On top of this, the deadlock on the EU constitution means that Mr Solana will not get the job as official EU foreign minister – foreseen for November in the shelved charter.

Highly-skilled diplomat
Generally, the Spanish socialist is seen as a highly skilled diplomat who has managed to survive seven years in the gruelling position without facing much political flak.

He is seen as at least having given a positive face to EU foreign policy - despite the domain being still very much in member state hands.

But Austrian paper Der Kurier on Wednesday (18 October) reported that the 64-year old Mr Solana could nevertheless soon step down - for health reasons.

German chancellor Angela Merkel reportedly had a long phone call with the Spaniard last week in which he said he would follow his doctor's advice and soon quit the job, otherwise "he would be dead in twelve months" - even if this is not visible in his appearance and in his statements.

A press officer in Mr Solana's office however denied the report saying "there was not such a phone call."

"Mr Solana's mandate expires in 2009 and his post is not available," she stated, adding that the Spanish diplomat jogs every day before work.

Verheugen not interested
The Austrian paper writes that Ms Merkel, whose country will hold the EU presidency in the first half of next year, has shortlisted two favourites to succeed Mr Solana: Slovakia's former prime minister Miklas Dzurinda and Austria's outgoing leader Wolfgang Schussel.

The report contradicts earlier speculation saying that Berlin has its own candidate - EU industry commissioner Guenter Verheugen.

Mr Verheugen however told Germany's Die Welt on Thursday that he is not interested in the post, saying he consciously said farewell to foreign policy when he left the commission's enlargement department in 2004.

Another strong candidate who has been doing the rounds is Sweden's former prime minister Carl Bildt, who is back on the EU stage since he was appointed foreign minister in the new Swedish centre-right government.

Insiders say Mr Bildt is not hiding his ambitions to obtain the top job, while also having a huge network in international affairs.

The chances of the rumoured candidates is set to depend to a large extent on their ability to bridge the gap between "atlanticist" states - such as the UK, Denmark, the Netherlands and new member states - and proponents of distance to Washington - notably France.

Mr Dzurinda is known as a strong pro-US politician - and therefore difficult to accept by Paris.

Mr Schussel, on the other hand, makes no secret of his opposition to Turkish EU accession which would put him at odds with the UK. ............................................................benny cool.gif

Post number 1......Mentioned something about a possible candidate if Solona steps down........One being from Austria......it's sorta interesting because about 25 years ago I heard an end time minister say that he suspected the ac would come from Austria....Just thought it was an interesting note to bring up...............................Solana Rumor Persists......................By Herb Peters;
The EUobserver is once again reporting that Javier Solana may be considering an early exist from the world stage Read about it here. And, I still find it hard to believe. As I said before, I suspect the reasons behind these rumors may be political. But, if I'm wrong -- if Solana does step down, how will it change my views? I though this would be a good question to answer.

When I saw the EUobserver's list of possible replacements for Solana I had to chuckle. I could almost see the EU beast's terror at the thought. If these are its choices, the poor thing's future looks bleak. No, there must be someone else. But, who?

Some may find my beast analogy strange. I have found, however, that sometimes it's the best way to explain the geo-political realities. After all, if that's the way God did it in His prophetic Scriptures, there must be a good reason. And, this brings us back to our question: If Solana steps down, how will my views change? The answer is -- because my views are based first and foremost on Scripture -- they won't.

You see, God still appeared to Moses in a burning bush. The reason Moses noticed the bush wasn't so much because it was on fire, it was because it wasn't being consumed. The bush represented Israel and the fire represented God's anger. At the time, the children of Israel were being oppressed by the first head of the dragon -- Egypt (Is. 51:9-10). In Revelation we learn that, in all, the dragon will have seven-heads. Many -- including myself -- believe these heads to be Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Persia, Greece, Rome and the revived, 10-horned Rome (Rev. 12:3, 13:1).

In Daniel we learn out of the last beast kingdom 10 horns will rise and, from these 10 horns, a little horn -- different from the others -- will appear (Daniel 7:7-8). This little horn -- who we believe to be the coming antichrist -- will subdue three of the first horns, go into the new Jewish Temple and claim to be equal to God (2 Thess. 2:4).

This event, unfortunately for the little horn, brings us back to Moses' burning bush. I already told you that the bush represented Israel and the fire God's anger. What I didn't mention was the most important part -- why the bush was burning but not being consumed. What God was saying is, although Israel may experience God's anger at times, God will never allow Israel to be consumed (Mal. 3:6). In other words, God was going to use Israel to reveal His power to the world.

No, the way I see it, the personalities don't matter. First and foremost my eyes are on the prophecies -- the hard, geo-political realities. If Solana steps down, someone will take his place.

The Bible says so.

Solana Rumor 2
Sure enough, according to this report Read about it here, the EU heads just held an informal summit where Javier Solana's second term as Secretary General of the Council was to be discussed. As you may know, this is what I was expecting. You see, the the EUobserver has been reporting rumors that Solana's may be retiring. And, the last time there were these rumors, the EU heads were also about to meet to discuss Solana's future.

Of course, that doesn't mean the rumors aren't true. But, it does make them less believable. And, according to the same report, the current EU Presidency was planning on accepting an Irish proposal that Solana get a second term. The report says:

Vanhanen said that he knows who Ireland will propose for the post. He would not say who the person is, but Helsingin Sanomat has information that Ireland’s proposal will be a second term for the present Secretary-General, Javier Solana.

The most interesting part of the report was the EU heads were also to be discussing the EU's stalled constitution. As I read this I recalled seeing a clip in my Watchman Speaks presentation where Vanhanen said the EU couldn't afford to wait for the EU's constitution and Foreign Minister. And, I remember another clip that may explain why. I have posted the slides below.

.

You see, it looks like the talks never even got around to Solana. The EU heads had something more important on the table -- their supply of energy Read about it here. And, if that's the case, we can see why having their new Foreign Minister would be very important to them too. Energy is the game and the Middle East the prize.

And, Solana may retire.

Yes that is very interesting I have heard the same thing! For starters that is where the "Legendary Spear" resides in a museum in Vienna, Austria. It is said to be the Spear of Gaius Cassius who became known as Longinus, the Spearman- The Roman soldier who pierced Christ's side at Calvary. It is said that it holds mystical powers . The possessor of the Spear is said to "Rule" the World!

This is kind of Long but I think you will find it very interesting if you have never read about it. I am sure many here have.

Just a few owners of the Spear are:

Constantine
All Roman Emperors from the 1200's to the 1800's
Adolf Hitler
United States

In 1938, one year before Hitler launched World War II, he took ownership of the Spear!

For 1000's of Years the Spear is said to have been a symbol of Power to the Emperors of the Holy Roman Empire.

It is said that the spear fell into the hands of Constantine in 307-337 AD. It is said that he held the spear to his chest in front of the "Church Fathers" and claimed that he was the "13th Apostle"

Then this is where we get into the so called DaVinci Code stuff! And the Whole Merovingian dynasty that are the "so called bloodline of Christ" For the readers sake I do not believe this stuff but am relating what the "So Called Ledgend is All About" In 496 AD the Roman Church made a pact with Clovis, he was the grandson of Merovee and was the King of the Franks. The Merovee Bloodline is who they say was a descendent of Mary Magdalene and Jesus. Clovis was the new Constatine and emperor of the Holy Roman Empire. It can't be proven but was said that their symbol of power was an ancient spear!

I will skip forward about a 1000's years. for times sake, In 1273, the emperor or the Holy Roman Empire was Rudolf I of the Habsburg dynasty. Until 1806 every emperor of the Roman Empire, were all "Hadsburgs" They reportedly held the Spear until the Fall of the Roman Empire.

It is said that Napolean abolished the throne and his 2nd marriage was to Marie Louise of Austria a princess of the Habsburgs. They supposedly hid the spear from him. The Habsburg family continued to be emperors of Austria. The last family member to hold a throne was Charles I but lost his thorne at the end of World War I. In the Habsburg Treasure House in Vienna, Austria is the Crown of the Holy Roman Empire and the Spear of Longinus.

Fast forward to 1909 Hitler was a young man of 21. He went to college and lived in Vienna. It is said that he became intrigued by the Spear. He felt the world's destiny would lie in the possessor of the Spear. It is said that Adolf was involved in the occult a group that claimed descent from the "So called Guardians of the Grail" He became deep into the occult and began using Mind altering drugs that would bring him closer to the spirit world. One day he went to the Museum and stared at the Spear, he became so engrossed as if in Transcendental Meditation. Supposedly an Evil spirit appeared and Hitler offered his soul as tool of Satan. In 1933 Hitler came to power. His #1 goal was to possess the Spear.

On October 13, 1938 Hitler gained possession of the Spear and attacked Poland and started World War II.

In 1945 the Americans by accident found the Spear. The USA bombed the city of Nuremberg. By accident an American soldier is said to have found the hidding place of the Spear what is interesting that reportedly at the same time Hitler killed himself in a bunker in Berlin!

As the US was possessors of the Spear they just so happened to realease the "Atomic Bomb" Although the only real American to show any kind of interest in the spear was General Patton. Supposedly Dwight Eisenhower ordered that the Spear be returned to the Habsburg's in Austria. The spear still resides there today.

It is very interesting that Otto von Habsburg known as the Archduke of Austria or Crown Prince of Austria also has a Title of "King of Jerusalem" Just google his name. He is in his 90's but he also has a son named Karl von Habsburg. Juan Carlos the King of Spain also claims this title of "King of Jerusalem" His bloodline also goes back to Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor.

There is so much more but I will stop. If anyone is interested here are a few books that speak of this:
"Spear of Destiny", "The Habsburg Empire" "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" and "Guardians of the Grail"

Minister of Purse Strings
Already they are lining up for his job Read about it here. Word is the first Mr. Europe, the ever tireless Javier Solana, may actually be tired. And, if the rumor is true, Solana may be getting tired only a few steps from his goal.

From the beginning of his EU career, Solana's goal has been the same -- to become the EU's minister of foreign affairs. From the start, Solana has persuasively argued that the EU's current system of foreign policy operation was inefficient and in need of change. As a result, in the final draft of the EU's new constitutional treaty, most all Solana's recommendations were included. Once ratified, the constitution would have created the office of Foreign Minister. This new minister would have the power of initiative -- to decide the EU's foreign policy direction. He or she would have one foot in the Council and one foot in the Commission. In the Council he or she would have access to all the EU's new crisis management assets, and in the Commission access to the EU's purse strings. And, as far as Bible prophecy is concerned, it's the purse strings that may be the most significant. You see, including in the EU's purse is a new, seven-year funding instrument that was especially created to strengthen a previous covenant with many. It's called the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (see below).

.

This new instrument is to begin funding on January 1, 2007. Like any good book, there's always an increase in suspense near the end. Friends, I think that's what we may be seeing. In order to explain, let me turn to our strange EU beast.

As rumors circulate that the EU beast's new little horn may quit, its 25 heads are busy wrestling with a cunning bear Read about it here. From past experience, the bear knows that if it holds out long enough, some of the EU beast's heads will yield to its demands FM pdf (pg 16). And, the outcome of this match is more serious than ever before. At stake this time is the EU beast's long-term survival. If ever the EU beast needed a strong little horn, it's now. But, it's little horn may quit. What's the EU beast to do?

Stay tuned!
