ArticleSEOUL, South Korea - North Korea faced a barrage of global condemnation and calls for harsh sanctions Monday after it announced that it had set off an atomic weapon underground, a test that thrusts the secretive communist state into the elite club of nuclear-armed nations. The U.N. Security Council scheduled a meeting for today, a U.S. official said. And Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President Bush agreed during a telephone call today that the U.N. Security Council must take "decisive action" against North Korea.

Seems like whenever this happens, the nations just complain about it and not do anything about it...they refer it to the Security Counsel. Security Counsel talks some more, nothing happens, they just all agree with the nations, yep that's not right. Meanwhile, N. Korea launches another missle. Give me a break.

Well, first off it should not be a surprise that N. Korea has nuclear capabilities. This because back when Clinton was the President he gave North Korea millions of dollars as an incentive program not to develop nuclear arms, which, it looks like, they just used that money to further develop them. (as an aside this also happened after WWII, japan was not allowed to have a military so they used all that money and put it into their economy, it should not have come as a suprise when they became a economic powerhouse; for instance just believe how economicly powerful USA could be if they cut their military spending by half and put that money into the economy)
Moreover, Kim Jong-il -I believe, is jealous around how much international attention Iran received for its nuclear ambitions compared to how much he received therefore in order to regain the spot light he must out do his popularity rival. Consequently, he must do an underground explosion, not confirmed to be nuclear except by the Russians.
That is a possiblity, or Kim and Ahmadinejad could be working together, notice how Iran is no longer on the front pages of the newspapers. Thus they are saying look at this hand while the other hand is up to something else... possible worse.
So here is the million dollar question, if US has to chose which to attack which one will they? Opinions?
I find it ironic that a potentinal ally for the UN against Iran would have been Iraq.

The lawmaker also quoted Kim Seung-gyu, head of the National Intelligence Service, as telling a closed-door parliamentary committee meeting that unusual signs had been detected at a North Korean town in the afternoon.
North Korea announced earlier in the day it had successfully conducted an underground nuclear test.

The U.N. is like the enabling parent that says "now now little johnny...don't do that again or I might have to think about talking with your father about threatening you with a punishment which carries no real consequences. So I'd stop if I were you, or we'll eventually (once your father and I can get on the same page because we will fight amoungst ourselve for months) have to tell you that we do not approve of your behavior and tell you just how much the household is disappointed in you. But if you promise to stop your bad behavior I will reward you with a trip to toys r us and shower you with gifts (you and I know this is a bribe, but we will call it incentives). Now your brothers and sisters who do not misbehave will not get to go to the store with us, as I do not need to bribe (i mean give incentives too) them. Good boy.

They are in it with the middleast as well as China and Russia. They are not merely doing this for attention purposes. There is a much bigger scheme and picture going on here...

Octopus Dream:
I dreamt that President Bush was hunting Octopus. He'd sent out fishing boats and had gotten what seemed to be one small arm but nobody was talking much about it.
Then he got a great big huge arm and l could clearly see the severed arm laying on the ground. They were cutting it up and selling it.
Then l could see the fishing boats go out again. People were protesting against it.
Then l woke up from the dream. I got up. It was only 2:30 in the morning. I put on my robe and laid back down for a while. As l was laying there thinking about the dream the phone rang! It was 2:30! It must be a prank call... I answered hello quietly. They didn't say anything. Then a man started saying "Hey! Hey! But l didn't answer l just waited. I could hear a lot of people in the back ground and a women speaking in an oriental language. Then my phone started beeping as the battery was low and l hung up. Here's some interesting facts about the Octupus....
http://www.npca.org/marine_and_coastal/mar...ife/octopus.aspGiant Pacific Octopus (Octopus dofleini)
Factoid: The giant Pacific octopus is an intelligent creature. In laboratory tests and aquariums, it has been able to solve mazes very quickly, unscrew jar lids to retrieve food inside the jar, and even mimic another octopus in a different tank.
The giant Pacific octopus is one of the largest species of octopods. Its reddish-brown body, called the mantle, plus four pairs of arms, measure on average about 16 feet long from arm tip to arm tip. The record weight for a Pacific giant is 600 pounds, but most weigh about 50 to 90 pounds. Newly hatched young are the size of a grain of rice.
This octopus's head is globe-shaped and contains all the octopus' organs and mouth. In the mouth is a beak that is made of the same substance as the human fingernail. The octopus uses the beak to kill prey and bite it into pieces. Each arm contains two alternating rows of suckers, used to catch prey and even taste things.
At rest, the octopus's skin is smooth and a light brownish color. But when excited, the octopus can change colors by contracting skin cells filled with pigment. This ability also allows it to camouflage itself when hunting for prey, such as shrimp, crabs, scallops, abalones, clams, and fish. The octopus can also rapidly force water out of its body, propelling itself backwards. It uses this ability to escape prey quickly. It can also squirt ink at an attacker and escape while hidden by the ink cloud.
The giant Pacific octopus lives along rocky shores in tide pools and in areas from the low-tide line to depths of 1,650 feet. It can be found along the Pacific coast from Alaska to southern California.

Miki,
Imagine how much "protest" there will be if we take action against Korea. People aren't talking much about accomplishments in Iraq (little arm) but they sure would if we went after a nuclear country (big arm).

N.Korea Warns Against Pre-Emptive Strike
North Korea Warns It Will Not 'Sit Idle' for Possible Pre-Emptive Strike by South Korea
By KWANG-TAE KIM Associated Press Writer
The Associated Press
SEOUL, South Korea
North Korea threatened South Korea with destruction Sunday after Seoul's top military officer said he would consider attacking the communist nation if it tried to carry out a nuclear attack.
The statement from North Korea's official news agency marked the third straight day of bellicose rhetoric from the North, which is angry over the harsher line the South's new president has taken against the country since assuming office last month.
"Our military will not sit idle until warmongers launch a pre-emptive strike," said an unidentified KCNA military commentator. "Everything will be in ashes, not just a sea of fire, if our advanced pre-emptive strike once begins."
On Friday, North Korea test-fired a barrage of missiles into the sea and warned it would "mercilessly wipe out" any South Korean warships that violate its waters near their disputed sea border.
Such rhetoric by North Korea at times of increased tensions is not rare, and it comes just two days before a scheduled visit to South Korea by the chief U.S. negotiator in North Korean nuclear disarmament talks.
Sunday's statement also warned that the North would suspend all scheduled inter-Korean dialogue unless Seoul retracts and apologizes for the remark by its new top military leader.
Kim Tae-young, chairman of the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff, told a parliamentary hearing Wednesday that the military would strike a suspected North Korean nuclear weapons site if Pyongyang attempts to attack the South with atomic bombs.
His office later said he was talking about a general military principle dealing with outside threats, not about launching an unprovoked pre-emptive attack on the North.
South Korea's Defense Ministry said Sunday that it would decide whether to send a response to the North over its demand for a retraction in a few days.
The North Korean military commentator reaffirmed that Pyongyang would ban South Korean officials, including military officers, from crossing the border.
The statement did not say when the ban would take effect or how long it would last.
South Korean officials have occasionally traveled across the two countries' heavily fortified border for talks.
