Tuesday saw the defeat of Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman in the primary elections for the Democratic nomination to the Senate. He was beaten by wealthy businessman Ned Lamont who based his entire campaign on attacking Lieberman for his support for the war in Iraq. The months long primary campaign against Lieberman was replete with venomous anti-Semitic attacks against Lieberman, his family, American Jews and Israel by Lamont supporters.

GREENWICH, Conn. - One vote that Senate candidate Ned Lamont knew he could count on in his Democratic primary victory has been disqualified — his daughter's.
Town election officials rejected Emily Lamont's vote in Tuesday's primary battle between her father and Sen. Joe Lieberman after the Democratic registrar of voters determined she had been ineligible to cast it because she wasn't a registered Democrat.
"Her vote was rejected because she is not enrolled in a party," said Sharon Vecchiolla, Democratic registrar in Greenwich.

The Democrats are cutting their own throats with regard to how they are handling the Leiberman situation. He is running as an independent, and polls show he is leading. After the way his own so-called friends have stabbed him in the back repeatedly, attacking him for running as an independent and now even going so far as to saying he cannot be a Democrat and run as an independent, he has no reason for further party loyalty. When he is re-elected, he should be more independent minded than ever, which to me is a good thing, but will have a back-lash effect on the Dems.
