7.7-magnitude quake jolts Russian Far East

CNN) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 jolted Russia's northern Kamchatka Peninsula on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

There were no immediate reports of injury.

Oleg Kotosanov, a duty officer with the regional emergency situations ministry, told The Associated Press that there were reports of damage in some villages and that officials were traveling by helicopter to the region.

The temblor struck at 12:25 p.m. Friday (7:25 p.m. Thursday ET), the USGS reported. Its epicenter was 125 miles (200 kilometers) northeast of Il'pyrskiy, Russia, and nearly 4,000 miles north-northeast of Moscow.

Marty, yeah, me too! They are continuing to get aftershocks, but it happened in a remote part of Russia, near Siberia... not many people there... I keep looking for updates. Very large earthquake though, if that was in Indonesia or a populated area it would have been devastating. :-(

It seems a real strange place to suffer from an earthquake but as we know, since last year, the weird and unexpected happened and its going to continue to happen.

This particular earthquake was the largest seismic event in the area since 1900 and Russia's northern Pacific coast sits along a major tectonic plate.

Has anyone noticed that it comes just 3 days after the 100 year anniversary of the great San Francisco earthquake of 1906? That earthquake measured between 7.7 and 7.9 and this one measured at 7.7. Could this be a warning?

So far 28 earthquakes in the region since the 7.7 hit on the 20th. That's about 10 per day. And most are moderate, three strong. Wow.

Doesn't Armageddon start after the 1000 year millenium? I'm getting confused now. I thought that the tribulation is way before Armageddon. I got to get back to reading! LOL

Rose, that is a good question. I believe it starts somewhere arount the beginning or the middle of the tribulation period. Because there is scripture that says that the cleanup from the war will be for 7 years! It is in Ezekiel 39.
