We need to pray for these people!

Evacuations have begun in Western Alaska, where rising sea levels will soon wipe out an Eskimo village. House by house, the Alaskan Eskimo village of Shishmaref is falling into the ocean. Shishmaref sits on an island a quarter of a mile across and two and a half miles long. Its 600 people are moving. They call themselves the first refugees of global warming. "It's like an ice cube with a bunch of houses on it, sitting on the beach. If it stays really cold, these houses can sit there forever, but if it warms just a little bit, the ice cube starts to melt, and the houses start to shift," said Chris Field of the Carnegie Institution's Department of Global Ecology. National Geographic reports global temperatures could rise as much as 10 degrees by the end of the century. The 1990s were the warmest decade since record keeping began in the 1800s. In just the past 50 years, temperatures in parts of Russia, Canada and Alaska have increased as much as 7 degrees. The hard sea ice that once protected Shishmaref has begun to melt, making the village more vulnerable to giant storms and waves, Field said. Many scientists say what's happening shows the power of global warming.

"These communities are like canaries in a mine," said Patricia Cochran of the Alaska Native Science Commission. "What happens here will happen to rest of the world." But some critics say Alaska is just one fragile spot and not necessarily a sign of a larger global warming phenomenon. "The damage from the small little village is from waves coming off ocean not necessarily the lack of ice," said Jan Null of Golden Gate Weather Services. "There's some talk that it's because there's not as much ice, there's more wave action, but there may've been more storms in recent years." Some scientists say they expect the north to warm faster than the rest of the world, but it's hard to predict what that will mean for Californians. "The global projections now say we might have global average warming of 3 to 10 degrees," Field said. "Shishmaref already has warmed 7 degrees. In California, we might see more. We might see less." What experts don't know is how much of the temperature change is caused by nature and how much by human pollution.

Mt 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Mt 7:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
Mt 7:26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: (or an ice-cube)
Mt 7:27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

laugh.gif He is like the typical movie scientist ...you know you always get one in the movies that CANNOT see the truth and is forever slowing down the correct action that needs to be taken.

That is really bad. Thank you for sharing this with us so we can pray. It just seems like everyday there is something new. My heart really goes out to these people.

Your friend in Christ,
Valerie

Stop drilling oil and the earth temperature will even out in a few centuries while the oil within the earth flows to fill in the areas that are lacking in the heat dampening system inhereht in the earth! Mr. Bush has stopped the drilling in the gulf, he will not do it in Alaska, what else can he do? I guess, that was in the past. After this last term, he can work for his buddy at Haliburton and pave roads. And you all keep caving in to the oil companies who have to have tar to build and repair the roads you drive on and you complain about gas prices; that is the only way that they can get the money and they just keep drilling and pumping oil and yall keep complaining. The temperature will get a bit intolerable, but we may have to go back to being naked. Duh, cars are causing emissions that are causing greenhouse gases that are heating our cities <cough, cough> . . . biggrin.gif
What we need is more half-million dollar hybrid cars so we can replenish our junkyards. <duh>

thought:

if you do not have enough oil in an engine,
it will eventually over-heat, and sieze up...

at the rate they are removing oil from the earth,
is the earth heating up-----from the inside?

well, it is a thought.
perhaps the oil is a means of lubrcant to the earth's crust.

but then, what has man done right? and what foresight has he shown?

perhaps there is a heating up,
from above,
and from below.

"God will bring to ruin those ruining the earth"--

please, see Genesis 6:11, 12
and Revelation 11: 18

AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH.
a movie by AL Gore
to be relased May 24, 2006.

you can view the trailer here:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount_cl...ttruth/trailer/

it shows the effect that expected rises in sea level will have on the maps...

i had a short snippet of a dream about a month ago.

only a view from above...
the lower half of Florida was submerged.

i could not see northward, beyond the lower half,
as i was too overwhelmed with interest looking at the view from above...

as i attemted to look more northward, the dream ended.

Ugh.

Freaky and not so much of a movie as it is real life.

Still...I can't help but blame some of the environmentalists why we haven't found another avenues to explore regarding OIL. Actually why we couldn't explore other regions and opportunities to OIL.

Yes, they are so concerned about the environment...well me too.....but we've got to live and go to work. We should have had an answer a long time ago about the coming OIL CRISIS. They knew it was coming...and I wouldn't be suprised if Gore was holding hands with Bush and the Saudi's. Hmmmm...

Who knows....

Thinking outloud here....Gore..I don't know...Bush Oh man...we are just screwed period. Who will be the next front runner puppets and who will be the puppeteers?

Ah...who are the ones controlling the strings?

But that is the thing of it! If we all used our oil rigs for just work and necessary things, and I mean necessary and making things up like, "the kids have GOT to have something to do so I went to the movie store to pick up the new Gore flick...."

If we just used what we had to to get where we hae to be and even made our work choices and shopping choices with the earth in mind, there wouldn't BE a problem.

I don't think an;yone is advocating that we stop using fuel, just that we stop being so all fired selfish about what we do daily. Travel to eat out....travel to go to all the games....travel to get stamps....travel to see a friend....

It did not kill families before our generation to spend time with one another rather than depending on friends for conversation and you can along with a lot less of all the rest of the above as well. It should be a joy and a priviledge to discover how LITTLE we can have, not what we can afford to "do", which always means "go" which always means using fuel.

Actually, this is one of the first topics I introduced when I first found this forum. It is the thing that I have tried to make those around me understand. I grow weary more easily these days and just keep quiet, but the earth will not keep quite much longer. Those rocks and trees WILL cry out.
