Muslim and Jewish leaders open congress to discuss how to work toward peace
By Associated Press March 20, 2006

Muslim and Jewish leaders meeting in a rare face-to-face forum have appealed to their faithful not to view each other as enemies and keep religion from being hijacked by extremists.

"We have more common elements than elements which pull us apart," the chief rabbi of Israel, Yona Metzger, said as a four-day congress of imams and rabbis opened in this southern Spanish city on Sunday.

"We have to continue to prove that Jews and Muslims are not enemies," Metzger said at the inaugural ceremony of the congress, which begins in earnest Monday with workshops on issues such as educating young people in religious tolerance and encouraging faith in an increasingly secular society.

The meeting, called the Second World Congress of Imams and Rabbis for Peace, is being sponsored by Hommes de Parole, a peace foundation based in Paris.

UN article is about One World Religion, and now they talk peace....Muslins and Jewish Rabbis are the only ones allowed into these. Think about it.

I think the Noahide Laws will be introduced soon and Sanhedrin courts will judge all that come against the laws...and the Muslims will agree to the terms of the Noahide Laws, because they don't see the harm in them, like so many others. Actually, the Noahide Laws seem to be in agreement with the Muslim religious belief system. The Muslims believe in beheading too.

.....that is my 2 cents worth.

If muslims and jews are friends why did they kill many of the jews? from the dawn of mankind they have been only attacking, murdering and stealing jews. What good will come in this meeting?. I think it is one of their tricks and games.

We've all read the Bible, we've all read the prophecies, we all knew that one day things were going to happen before the Lord's return, and doesn't it just STUN you to see these things happening in OUR DAY?!?! Somebody else mentioned having been interested in the Second Coming since youth, and I've been like that, too, and even believing that it would happen in my lifetime, but to see all this happening the way it is still just blows me away.

Is all this really under the radar of most of Christianity????! Are they talking about this in churches? Or are they spending time the way they have the past few years giving seminars against "religions" that they disagree with? Are they prepared THEMSELVES?

Imams, rabbis end congress with call to respect each other's religion

MADRID, Spain – Imams and rabbis concluded a sometimes-heated international congress Wednesday by calling on each other and the world to respect their religions.
In a final statement after the four-day meeting in the southern city of Seville, delegates said that “contrary to widespread misinterpretation, there is no inherent conflict between Islam and Judaism.”

The congress was designed to let imams and rabbis discuss how to end antagonism between their faithful and work toward peace.

The rare face-to-face forum – the second held by a Paris-based peace foundation called Hommes de Parole – was a good start, said Chaim Steinmetz, a rabbi from Canada.

“Most of the imams have never seen this many rabbis. Most of the rabbis have never seen this many imams,” Steinmetz said from Seville.

The meeting brought together more than 250 imams, rabbis and academics from 31 countries, including the United States. But it was largely overshadowed by tension over Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Imams from the Gaza Strip, such as Imad al-Falouji, insisted Tuesday that peace was impossible until Israel ended the occupation. He accused Israel of systematically “killing” his people.

But al-Falouji sounded more conciliatory as the congress ended. Some rabbis from Israel had promised him they would pressure the government to respect Muslim holy sites in Israel, he said in an interview from Seville.

Al-Falouji said other rabbis were less cooperative and more narrow-minded. “They must look at the problem in the Holy Land with two eyes, not one eye,” he said.

The forum's final statement made an apparent reference to Muslim rage over the Prophet Muhammad cartoons published in European newspapers, calling on governments and international institutions to respect “symbols of all religions,” as well as holy sites, particularly in the Holy Land.

The delegates also appeared to address Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's comment that Israel should be “wiped off the map.” They said “we condemn any incitement against a faith or people, let alone any call for their elimination, and we urge authorities to do likewise.”

The last two days of the conference involved dozens of small problem-solving workshops whose themes were decided in a brainstorming session moderated by Harrison Owen, an American communications consultant.

Steinmetz, the Canadian rabbi, said the setting looked familiar. “We had some failures. We had some successes. And we had an American man with a southern accent standing in the middle. It is a lot like the peace process.”

I too, have felt from early in life that great things would happen in my lifetime. I always thought I would be prepared. But in my mind it seemed more simple than how things truly are unfolding. I told my wife the other day walking into walmart. I have for years studied things of the bible and end time events, but only learned from scripture. Now I get to read the paper and just look around and see it all unfolding in front of my eyes. It is truly amazing. But what is important is to not watch it and be glad for ourselves, but sad for those who are unprepared for what is coming. We have an obligation to loose the bonds of satan from the eyes of the masses and open the doorway for the spirit to move. Men and women will perish if they do not here of God's grace. The love of Jesus' sacrifice. We all need to not worry how foolish we may look in front of people but to tryin reach all we come across. Strangers and friends. Enemies and allies. Be glad for our redemtion is near but sad for the loss of so many who simply were blinded by the scales on thier eyes from satan. Spiritual warfare is the way to help remove this. Many cannot will themselves to accept Christ because of Demon interferince. It is time to take the authority given to us, cast these demons aside for the sake of the Elect. Sorry long, I felt this message may reach just one persons heart and make a difference. And sorry its off your topic.

Imams in Spain Say Muslims and Jews Must Confront Extremism

By RENWICK McLEAN
Published: March 26, 2006

SEVILLE, Spain, March 23 -- Scores of rabbis and imams gathered here this week to discuss what they called a deepening crisis in relations between Muslims and Jews, saying religious leaders must confront religious extremism and the failure to make meaningful progress on the conflict in the Middle East.

The meeting did not produce any sweeping agreements, but it was nonetheless heralded by many participants as a breakthrough, bringing together religious leaders who have the potential to bridge the divisions between Muslims and Jews, but who rarely interact.

Leaders who seldom cross paths despite living only minutes apart, like ultra-Orthodox rabbis from Israel and former members of the radical Palestinian group Hamas, spent four days in a hotel here sitting in the same rooms, eating the same meals and occasionally talking, guardedly at first, but increasingly freely as the conference progressed.

“You have some of the most fundamentalist people from both religions here,” said Eliezer Simcha Weisz, a rabbi in Emek Hefer, Israel. “These people would never sit together in Israel.”

The meeting, organized by the French foundation Hommes de Parole, which promotes dialogue between conflicting groups, included hostile exchanges and pointed arguments about terrorism, Israeli settlements and claims to Jerusalem. But it also led to some uninhibited displays of camaraderie, like rabbis and imams singing and dancing together during an impromptu musical performance in the hotel lobby near midnight.

But sporadic displays of conviviality did not temper the underlying tension. At the opening ceremony on Sunday, the chief rabbi of Israel, Yona Metzger, noting that most Muslims are moderates, asked the imams in the audience: “Why don’t you speak when Bin Laden invokes your religion to justify terrorism? Why don’t you express yourselves in a loud voice?”

Even discussions as seemingly innocuous as the virtues of peace often turned into arguments. “No one can speak about peace while there is occupation,” said Imad al-Falouji, a former Hamas member and one of the most prominent imams in Gaza, referring to the Israeli presence in the West Bank.

End-Time Calling
Yes, whats crazy is, the peace probably wont come from one major event as thought. The people in control of Israel are lost and don't recognize a God. They feel everything they've done they've done with their own power and smarts. They will take credit for the peace treaty and say look what we've accomplished. Not knowing what they've truly done. Pray for those in Israel who do acknowledge God. Even those whom don't recognize Christ as Messiah, there is still always a remnant of Israel still for the God of their fathers Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. They will stay true to Father through it all. God bless them.
