US Christian broadcaster says Sharon's stroke divine retribution
Jan 05 6:11 PM US/Eastern

US evangelical broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested Ariel Sharon's stroke was divine retribution for "dividing God's land" of Israel, igniting his latest trademark controversy.

As the Israeli prime minister battled for life, Robertson seemed to suggest to viewers on his "700 Club" television show that Sharon was being punished for his policies in Gaza and the West Bank.

"The prophet Joel makes it very clear that God has enmity against those who, quote, 'divide my land.' God considers this land to be his.

"You read the Bible, he says, 'This is my land.' And for any prime minister of Israel who decides he's going carve it up and give it away, God says, 'No. This is mine.'"

Robertson, who frequently provokes outrage with his remarks, said he was "sad" to see Sharon fall sick, and that he was a "very likeable person."

"I prayed with him personally. But here he is at the point of death. He was dividing God's land, and I would say woe unto any prime minister of Israel who takes a similar course to appease the EU, the United Nations or the United States of America."

"God said, 'This land belongs to me, you better leave it alone.'"

Robertson also appeared to suggest former Israeli prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, murdered in 1995, had also paid the ultimate price for talking peace.

"He was tragically assassinated, and it was terrible thing that happened, but nevertheless, he was dead."

Robertson's latest blast drew immediate condemnation from Israel's ambassador to the United States.

"Such things are very outrageous. I would expect this only from people like (President Mahmoud) Ahmadinejad in Iran ... I wouldn't expect it from any of our friends," ambassador Danny Ayalon told CNN.

The US Anti-Defamation League also piled on Robertson's "outrageous and shocking" comments.

"His remarks are un-Christian and a perversion of religion. We would hope that good Christian leaders would distance themselves from Pat Robertson's remarks," the ADL said in a statement.

"It is pure arrogance for Robertson to suggest that he has divine knowledge of God's intent and purpose based on his interpretation of scripture."

Robertson, who ran for president as a conservative in 1988, and often urges supporters on his show to support President George W. Bush, frequently unleashes rhetorical hand grenades.

In October, he said a recent spate of natural disasters pointed to the end of the world and the imminent second coming of Jesus Christ.

In August, Robertson said the United States should assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, but later apologized for the remark.

He also suggested voters in a Pennsylvania town should not expect God's help should they face a natural disaster after they ousted a school board which had mandated the teaching of creationism.

Last year, he suggested that the threat to the United States from liberal "activist judges" was "probably more serious than a few bearded terrorists who fly into buildings," a reference to the September 11 attacks.

He has also lambasted Disneyland and the United Nations.

I saw Pat Robertson in a clip aired on CNN and he does not look well. I did not have a light spirit about him. I have to wonder if he is wise in the way he approaches events. Or maybe he is Christlike, but somehow I notice the world is raging against him. That is somehow to be expected. But there is this nagging doubt I feel in my spirit whether he is really giving birth to God's will or not. I think he may have a point about giving back the gains that Israel has secured by miraculous intervention during the six day war in 1967. Back then I was a buck private and on standby to go fight in "Armegeddon."

Yesterday evening, the same day (hour?) that Pat was saying what he did about dividing God's land, my wife was reading this article by Dave Hunt that has to do with the same thing, and uses the very same verse. (We were unaware of Pat's comments until today.) We both were surprised at what we read by Hunt about dividing the land, and felt that God was saying something by it. I was even thinking of quoting part of the article and putting it on the forum (which I have now done!) The full article can be found at the below address. The whole thing is worth reading.

I don't believe in coincidences, yet I do think Pat needs to be careful in what he says since he is being closely watched. Pat made it clear that he likes Sharon and is not happy at his stroke, but is pointing out that if we work against God's interests we had better expect to be removed one way or the other. The man is 77 and has lived a full life so death must come to us all. The real issue is whether he has excepted Jesus as the Christ (Messiah) and is serving Him. If not, then this is the greater sin.

There are two specific reasons for God’s judgment: “I will also gather all nations ...into the valley of Jehoshaphat [between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives, where God miraculously destroyed invading nations without Israel lifting a finger
(2 Chr 21:10-25)], and will plead with [punish] them there for my people and for my heritage Israel, whom they have [1] scattered among the nations, and [2] parted my land” (Joel 3:2).

Of course, all nations have participated in persecuting and scattering the Jews from country to country for 2,500 years. The second reason for God’s judgment falling on all nations, however, is something that has only occurred within our generation: “they have…parted [divided] my land.”

Israel has been overrun by invaders many times—but never did any conqueror divide the land. The victor does not share its spoils with others. Since World War I, however, all nations have joined to divide the land of Israel.

The 1917 Balfour Declaration, the 1919 Paris Peace Conference, and the 1922 Declaration of Principles by the League of Nations all recognized that the land that had become known as “Palestine” (since the Romans renamed Israel in A.D. 135) belonged to the Jews. It was set aside to become the national homeland of the Jewish people “internationally guaranteed, and…formally recognized to rest upon ancient historic connection.” Of course, history ties Israel to all of “Palestine.”

Britain was given the mandate to see that the Jews were safely settled there. The discovery of huge reservoirs of oil under Arab lands caused Britain to keep Jewish immigrants out and let in tens of thousands of Arabs. Just when millions of Jews desperately needed a haven to which they could flee from Nazi Germany, Britain’s 1939 White Paper limited Jewish immigrants to 10,000 per year for a maximum of five years, plus an additional 25,000 “refugees” during that period—then the door to Palestine would be shut entirely to the Jews. Since the Nazis had marked for extinction 11 million Jews in Europe, the quota of 25,000 defied God and conscience.

A year earlier, President Roosevelt had gathered delegates from 32 countries in Evian, France, to discuss the worsening plight of the Jews. Roosevelt made it clear that the United States would do nothing. Britain said there was no room in Palestine and it was not to be discussed. Professing their great sympathy for Europe’s Jews that everyone knew were to be exterminated, the nations offered various excuses why they could do nothing to intervene.

Hitler shrewdly declared, “We...are ready to put all these criminals at the disposal of these countries...even on luxury ships.” When the conference ended with the Jews completely abandoned, Hitler mocked the participants: “It was recently regarded as wholly incomprehensible why Germany did not wish to preserve in its population...the Jews…[yet these] countries seem in no way anxious to [receive them] now that the opportunity offers.” The entire world was Hitler’s partner in destroying the Jews!

In 1944, Hitler offered to sell to the allies 500,000 Hungarian Jews for $2 each —and no one would take them! England said there was “no room” in Palestine for them! In 1943, Britain and America had agreed to say and do nothing about the Holocaust, fearful that if pressed, Hitler would dump the Jews on his critics. The Allies steadfastly refused the repeated urgent appeals from Jewish organizations to bomb the rail lines going in and out of the extermination camps. God will judge all nations!

After the war, a trickle of emaciated survivors of Hitler’s death machines sought to reach “Palestine” in half-sinking ships. Some who got within sight of the land God had given to them as an everlasting inheritance (1 Chr 16:15-18) were driven back by the British navy and put into internment camps on Cyprus. Many who did manage to find shelter within what would become the new Jewish State of Israel were rounded up by the British and removed to those camps. Britain created Jordan out of most of the Promised Land. The demise of the British Empire, upon which “the sun never sank,” can be counted from the time Britain betrayed the Jews—one more fulfillment of the prophecy, “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee…” (Gn 12:3).

When the UN finally voted to partition Palestine on November 29, 1947 (UN Res. 181), God’s “chosen people” received about 13 percent of the land that had once belonged to them! Thus Joel’s prophecy was fulfilled that all nations would join to divide Israel. The only part of that prophecy remaining to be fulfilled is the judgment on the nations for having “parted” God’s land: “The land shall not be sold [partitioned] for ever; for the land is mine” (Lev 25:23).

God’s anger is growing hotter against the nations of this world for robbing Israel of what He gave to her. Yet in continued defiance of God, every peace proposal that the West has imposed upon Israel has involved further dividing of God's land. President Bush, a professing Christian, originated the so-called “road map to peace,” which calls for a further dividing of the land of Israel. He ought to tremble and repent, as should President Putin, the EU, and the UN, who have joined Bush to make up the “quartet” sponsoring this plan.

On her part, Israel has been willing to give away more and more land in exchange for promises of “peace” from the PLO in spite of the fact that its charter calls for the destruction of Israel and that its maps and those of the entire Arab world do not even acknowledge Israel’s existence. The fact that Israel has been forced to do so by the West is no excuse. For this she will be punished severely in what is called “the time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jer 30:7). Yes, God will deliver her, but only after two-thirds of all Jews on earth have been killed (Zec 13:8,9).

There is no more appropriate place and way to destroy the nations that have abused Israel than when they, in the spirit of Satan, come to effect once and for all what Hitler called the “final solution to the Jewish problem.” Believers are to meet together to encourage and exhort one another from Scripture, “so much the more, as ye see the day [of judgment] approaching” (Heb 10:25). Fulfilled prophecies are heralding that day as never before.

I can't help it...I'm glad Pat speaks up. When l read a post as the above l get such a sinking feeling...
I so want to see the Jews vindicated by God...
I remember those aweful things done to them.

A few years ago I made some friends in a messianic congregation and had the great honour of attending some messianic meetings and a passover as well. I cant quite put my finger on it but I felt so honoured to be amongst Gods chosen people and that I, a gentile, was permitted by God to be with these wonderful people and we were all on the same scale so to speak, worshipping the same God and the same Messiah. AWESOME!!!

Is what Pat saying true? Did God say not to divide His land?
Because if God said it then....what's the problem?
(not trying to be smart because I honestly don't know what scripture said that
if thats the case)
I don't think Pat wished anything bad on Sharon in a personal sense.
Did he make a personal remark?

Besides what do people care about how a Christian behaves?
We just had a big spew over the holiday's about ridding the Christ theme and now media wants to throw Christian behavior in our faces?

what's really going on?

I saw the 700 club lastnight and saw/heard what Pat Robertson said... this is not a defense of him but all he did was quote the word of God and was very humble about it and then he gave his opinion... I have not read the scriptures he referred to in Joel, but plan to this weekend (thank goodness Joel is only 3 chapters!). I was listening to our local Christian radio station this morning while driving to work and one of the DJs was blasting him by using veiled language, I did not think it was appriopriate that they did that.

Blessings,

You always have an interesting thing to say- and I'll readily admit most of the time I would have never dreamed of even thinking it.

I believe what he said was true...

God does punish his people. God does rule governments and take out leaders. (Take out not necessarily meaning kill- but yes, I think God does kill people).

Am inclined to agree that Pat Robertson may be on to something. What kills me is the people who expect Christians to walk around all day with syrup dripping from our lips, and never a word that may convict our offend them because they're acting outside of God's will. I heard what PR said on a news clip, and I didn't find it aggressive or condemning. The Word talks about the wrath of God and that He will act. The idea that God never punishes people or deals with people who wrong His children does not line up with scripture. The God who would smite a man with what seemed like good intentions, for trying to level the ark of the covenant and prevent its falling, despite the instructions not to touch it, is the same today yesterday and forever, so He still deals with disobedience. Am not saying He allowed Sharon to become ill, am just saying people do not like to accept that God allows consequences for behavior. And whether the media likes it or not, this may be one of them...

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SAYING THAT!
People have this conception that Christians are very loving and harmless. Society is pushing our Christain God out the door and expect for Christians to shut up and act a certain way.
As long as people stand up for God's word then I will be there to support.

Imagine the heat Pat is getting for talking scripture. He doesn't care if he loses it all. As long as he stays on point and doesn't let it get personal...he'll be alright.
But he has a thin line to walk because if he says something out of context or not true...then the heat is on him from all sides.

I am at my mothers place --- me ---Shekel! I really like what you said here. However, we must be careful not to bring persecution on ourselves over political issues. I am not saying he is, but I am not sure it isn't either. dry.gif

I am just saying that we must be careful. But sometimes we speak and we let the chips fly where they may. That's what I did with the Merry Baal-mas article. I use Christmas for good, but when I am reasonable sure God gives me a word I let it rip. And if it causes problems ---so be it! If later I find out I was wrong or had run with half a word than I correct myself. But the fear of man is a snare.

Notice how Gaza isn't really occupied with families and schools and ordinary living.

It's occupied with terrorists and l bet there aren't many buyers who want to live in the middle of insurgency.

I've been pondering this because of a sign God has shown and l have been following it for the last 3 years...I just wonder...?

Israel rejects Pat Robertson funding
By AVI KRAWITZ

Talkbacks for this article: 131

Tourism Minister Avraham Hirchson has shunned US evangelical leader Pat Robertson shortly before the two were to sign a major funding deal for the Galilee Christian Heritage Center after Robertson suggested that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's stroke was a punishment from God for the Gaza Strip withdrawal, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

"The minister has very strong views on this and cannot accept what was said," Tourism Ministry spokesman Ido Hartuv said. "We reconsidered the deal and realized that we cannot sign with Robertson or anyone who supports his views."

Hartuv stressed that this was an attack on Robertson and his comments rather than a rejection of the evangelical community as a whole, which has become a target group for Israeli tourism in 2006.

Robertson lost favor with the ministry when he said on his popular 700 Club TV show that "God considers the land to be his… For any prime minister of Israel who decides he is going to carve it up and give it away he says, 'No, this is mine.'"

The charismatic broadcaster led a group of evangelical Christians who have agreed to raise more than $50 million to build the Heritage Center on a 14-dunam plot of land on the shores of the Sea of Galilee.

Hirchson, who has been a close ally of Sharon throughout the disengagement period and was among the first Likud members to defect with him to form Kadima, was scheduled to sign the agreement with Robertson committing the government to provide the land and infrastructure for the project and the evangelicals the funding.

While Hirchson pulled the plug on Robertson, the project is going ahead as planned and looking for alternative avenues of finance.

"Many people are enthusiastic about the project," said Uri Dagul, who voluntarily heads the steering committee overseeing the project. "We initiated the project before Robertson was on board, and we will continue without him."

Dagul did not dismiss the possibility of working with Robertson if the evangelist issued an appropriate apology.

A spokesman for Robertson could not be reached in time for this report. A reaction to the outcry following his comments posted on his Web site Thursday fell short of issuing an apology, attempting to further explain his stance.

The government presented its plans for the heritage center and biblical garden in May saying it expected the center to bring an additional 750,000 visitors to the country annually.

Dagul said that the allocation of land was expected to be complete within the next six weeks, after which a nonprofit organization needed to be registered before it got the go ahead.

Dagul predicted that construction would start in 2007 and that it would take three to four years to complete.

I can't help it...I'm glad Pat speaks up.  When l read a post as the above l get such a sinking feeling...
I so want to see the Jews vindicated by God...
I remember those aweful things done to them.

I saw a Menora at Wal Mart the other day.  A small pretty one.  I've never had one so l placed it in my cart.  As l did l had strange feeling come over me of shame....That shame did not come from me..I'm convinced of it....but a cloud that covers a people...

I can't wait for God to set them free.

I have a huge opinion on this subject, most of which blasts Pat Robertson for his habit of letting his mouth dig holes his image can't climb out of, and then apologizing because he has a business plan in action in whatever region he offended on any particular week, but I'll try and keep it simple.

Let's try and be extremely careful on what we choose to label as "God's wrath", because frankly, if He didn't tell us Himself, then we have no right to label it as such. I don't remember any prophetic scripture saying that in the last days, He's going to give people strokes.
