TEHRAN (AFP) - Iran has rallied behind allies Hezbollah and Syria, praising the Lebanese Shiite militant movement's battle against "infected tumour" Israel and warning the Jewish state against widening the conflict.

In a speech carried on state television Sunday, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei branded "Zionists" as "an evil and cancerous being and an infected tumour".

"The Zionists wanted Lebanon to be the meat between their teeth. The powerful limbs of Hezbollah have prevented the Zionists' dream of trouble from being realised," Khamenei said.

His comments, on the fifth day of an Israeli onslaught against its northern neighbour following Hezbollah's capture of two soldiers, prompted chants of "Hezbollah will win, Israel will be destroyed".

Khamenei replied: "Yes, that is what we say".

"The US says Hezbollah must be disarmed. This will not happen," the supreme leader said of the group, which has pounded Israel with rockets and whose leader Hassan Nasrallah has declared "open war".

Quoted by the ISNA news agency, former president Mohammad Khatami also praised Hezbollah as "a shining sun that illuminates and warms the body of all Muslims and supporters of freedom in the world".

Israel was also warned of "unimaginable losses" if it chose to attack Syria, with foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi vowing that Iran was "standing by the Syrian people".

"We hope the Zionist regime does not make the mistake of attacking Syria, because extending the front would definitely make the Zionist regime face unimaginable losses," foreign ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Asefi told reporters.

"We have offered and will offer Syria and Lebanon spiritual and humanitarian support," Asefi insisted, reiterating Iran's denial that it is providing military and financial assistance to the Hezbollah movement.

"We have no Guards there. It is not true that we have sent missiles. Hezbollah is capable enough. The Zionist regime is under pressure."

The Israeli army has said Hezbollah militants had used Iranian-made missiles in its attacks. An Israeli military intelligence official has also alleged that members of Iran's powerful ideological army, the Revolutionary Guards, were in Lebanon acting as military advisors.

And Lebanese Druze leader Walid Jumblatt charged that Lebanon has become a proxy battleground for Iran in its fight against US-led pressure on its nuclear programme.

"The war is no longer Lebanon's ... it is an Iranian war," Jumblatt told the Arabic news channel Al-Arabiya.

"Iran is telling the United States: You want to fight me in the Gulf and destroy my nuclear programme? I will hit you at home, in Israel," said Jumblatt, an outspoken critic of Iran's key regional ally Syria.

But Asefi pinned the blame on the United States.

"The United States has had a destructive role by vetoing resolutions and hence encouraging the Israeli crimes," Asefi said, referring to Washington's use of its veto in the UN Security Council Thursday to block a resolution calling for a halt to an Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip.

The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, General Yahya Rahim Safavi, meanwhile said the country's Supreme National Security Council was to hold an emergency meeting on the conflict later Sunday.

"It is the supreme leader and the president who will take decisions and this meeting will be dedicated to examining the decisions to be taken," was quoted as saying by the semi-official Mehr news agency.

Late on Saturday, Ahmadinejad -- who has called for Israel to be "wiped off the map" or moved as far away as Alaska -- compared Israel's military strikes on Gaza and Lebanon to tactics used by Nazi-era Germany's leader Adolf Hitler.

"Zionists say they are Hitler's victims, but they have the same nature as Hitler," said Ahmadinejad, who has previously described the Holocaust of six million Jews in wartime Europe as "a myth."

Isaiah 17: An Oracle Concerning Damascus: The situation between Hezbollah and Israel is heating up, and nobody seems able (or even willing) to stop it. The US and Russia have agreed that Israel has a right to defend itself from unprovoked aggression, and even the moderate Arab states have questioned Hezbollah's motives.

At the recent emergency meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers sharp rifts erupted as moderate Arab states denounced Hezbollah for starting the conflict, according to Fox News.

Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal called the group's actions "unexpected, inappropriate and irresponsible," telling his counterparts: "These acts will pull the whole region back to years ago, and we cannot simply accept them."

Supporting his stance were representatives of Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Iraq, the Palestinian Authority, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, delegates said.

The only ones openly supporting Hezbollah are Syria and Iran, both widely suspected of having engineered the confrontation in the first place.

Today (July 15) The London-based Arabic language newspaper Al-Hayat reported that "Washington has information according to which Israel gave Damascus 72 hours to stop Hezbullah's activity along the Lebanon-Israel border and bring about the release the two kidnapped IDF soldiers or it would launch an offensive with disastrous consequences."

Unless somebody blinks soon, this crisis has the potential to escalate into the fulfillment of Isaiah 17's Oracle against Damascus. With that in mind, I'm delaying the publication of our next chapter of the Book of Revelation to present this updated commentary on Isaiah 17.

An Oracle Concerning Damascus:
"See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid. (Isaiah 17:1-2) Because of the language of these verses, many scholars believe that this prophecy was only partially fulfilled when the Assyrians defeated the Arameans and overran their capital, Damascus, in 732 BC. To this day Damascus is thought to be the world's oldest continuously inhabited city with a 5000-year history and a population close to 2 million, yet Isaiah 17:1 indicates that it will one day cease to exist.

Some believe the phrase "cities of Aroer" refers to Aramean territory east of the Jordan River around the Arnon River, which flows into the Dead Sea in southern Jordan. However, the Jewish Encyclopedia claims that this phrase in Isaiah 17:2 is probably translated incorrectly, because of its geographical distance from Damascus. While they say it's possible that there may have been another Aroer near Damascus, it is more likely that the passage should be rendered "the cities thereof shall be forsaken." If that's the correct translation, it would include the Hezbollah stronghold in the Bekaa Valley of Lebanon, which was part of Aramean territory in Isaiah's time, and is in a direct line between Beirut and Damascus.

The fortified city will disappear from Ephraim, and royal power from Damascus; the remnant of Aram will be like the glory of the Israelites," declares the LORD Almighty. "In that day the glory of Jacob will fade; the fat of his body will waste away. It will be as when a reaper gathers the standing grain and harvests the grain with his arm- as when a man gleans heads of grain in the Valley of Rephaim. (Isaiah 17:3-5)

This segment speaks of the fall of Samaria 10 years later in 722 BC, and the systematic relocation of everyone showing any leadership tendencies to the far reaches of the Assyrian Empire. This was standard Assyrian policy to reduce the likelihood of subsequent rebellion among their conquered peoples. Jacob and Ephraim are alternate names for the Northern Kingdom, and Samaria was its capital. Judah was the name given to the Southern Kingdom, later changed to Judea in the Greek and Roman eras.

Yet some gleanings will remain, as when an olive tree is beaten, leaving two or three olives on the topmost branches, four or five on the fruitful boughs," declares the LORD, the God of Israel. (Isaiah 17:6)

Not all the people were dispersed. A remnant remained in the land, casting further doubt on the "lost 10 tribes" hypothesis. It was this remnant that came to be known as the Samaritans in the time of Jesus. (A quick reading of 2 Chronicles 11:16 shows that all 12 tribes were represented in the Southern Kingdom of Judah at the time of the civil war that divided the nation. There are no lost tribes. The Lord has always preserved a remnant of all the Tribes of Israel.)

In that day men will look to their Maker and turn their eyes to the Holy One of Israel. They will not look to the altars, the work of their hands, and they will have no regard for the Asherah poles and the incense altars their fingers have made. In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation. (Isaiah 17:7-9)

This is another passage that's problematic for those who try to consign the whole prophecy to history. There is simply no reason to believe that the Assyrians turned to God following their conquest of Aram and Israel. And far from abandoning their cities because of the Israelites, it was the Israelites who were defeated and dispersed. The yet future Jewish attack on Damascus causing the destruction and abandonment of Syrian cities, and the eventual return of the survivors to their God is a much more likely fulfillment. And it could happen soon.

The Israelis have all but announced plans to mount a pre-emptive attack against Iran's nuclear facilities. Iran and Syria supply the money, weaponry and supervisory manpower for the 16,000 or so missiles Hezbollah has arrayed against Israel. They are believed to have directed Hezbollah to provoke this attack to demonstrate their combined strength as a deterrent to Israel's plans. But I don't think anyone expected Israel's new government, thought by most to lack sufficient backbone for this kind of thing, to respond so forcefully. Now that they have, the West sees the possibility for a major victory in the War on Terror by knocking out a player or two. Israel has promised to destroy Hezbollah before they stop, and the West may see an opportunity here to punish Syria for killing former Lebanese Prime Minister Hariri last spring. Better stay tuned.

You have forgotten God your Savior; you have not remembered the Rock, your fortress. Therefore, though you set out the finest plants and plant imported vines, though on the day you set them out, you make them grow, and on the morning when you plant them, you bring them to bud, yet the harvest will be as nothing in the day of disease and incurable pain. (Isaiah 17:10-11)

Asshur, father of the Assyrians, and Aram, father of the Arameans were both sons of Shem. Aram's son Uz is the traditional founder of Damascus. The knowledge of God in the memories of these patriarchs cannot be questioned. It wasn't that they never knew Him, but that they had forgotten Him, abandoned Him in favor of the Canaanite gods of the region, Baal and his consort Ashtoreth (aka Asherah, Astarte, Ishtar, Aphrodite, Venus.) Currently Syria is almost totally Moslem. Until they return to their Maker and Savior none of their plans and schemes will prosper in the long run.

But return to Him they will. In Isaiah 19 we're told that in the Kingdom Age there'll be a highway extending from Egypt to Assyria, and both will stand with Israel to receive the Lord's blessing. (Isaiah 19:23-25)

Oh, the raging of many nations- they rage like the raging sea! Oh, the uproar of the peoples- they roar like the roaring of great waters! Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale. In the evening, sudden terror! Before the morning, they are gone! This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us. (Isaiah 17:12-14)

Having conquered both the Arameans and the Northern Kingdom, the Assyrians set their sights on the Southern Kingdom, Judah. Assyria's King Sennacherib brought his armies almost literally to the gates of Jerusalem, so close his commanders were within speaking distance of the Jewish defenders. On the night before they were to attack, the Lord sent His angel into the Assyrian camp on Mt. Scopus to slaughter 185,000 Assyrian soldiers. Before dawn they had packed up and fled, ending 44 years of conquest. (Isaiah 37:36-38) This time in Israel's history so parallels the Jewish view of the End Times that Sennacherib is seen by them as a type of the anti-christ, while Judah's King Hezekiah models the Messiah.

But notice that Isaiah speaks of many nations raging against God's people, not just Assyria, leading us once again to consider Sennacherib's defeat as a partial fulfillment.

Today many nations are stirred up by Israel's response to the Hezbollah rocket attack and kidnapping. They say it's extreme, not appropriate to the circumstances. Many believe that Syria will soon try to provoke a Jewish response, and Israel's 72 hour ultimatum may be their cue. If that should cause a further escalation we can easily envision a scenario that includes the final fulfillment of Isaiah 17, the destruction of Damascus.

The phrase "rushing of many waters" is often used to describe a loud voice. Such an escalation would certainly cause an incredible uproar among the nations, and many loud voices.

Many who study Bible prophecy believe that one of the soon to be fulfilled events may be the destruction of Damascus as prophesied in Isaiah 17. Damascus is the capital of Syria.

Syria is finding their way into the News Headlines more and more lately. Whether it is because of their extremely harsh stance against Israel, or the fact that Damascus is the home to numerous terrorist organizations, or even more recently because of the trouble they are stirring up in the Iraqi war. Suffice it to say, they are getting some attention.

The purpose of this article is to focus on some prophecies in God's Word concerning Syria ... more specifically their capital Damascus. The most obvious reason that we believe these prophecies are yet future, is because Damascus exists! It has NEVER ceased to be a city!

Let's look at the History, Facts, and most importantly ... the Scripture.

:: "The Oldest Continuously Inhabited City"

Damascus is named 60 times in 55 verses in the King James Bible. The first time we see it mentioned is right at the beginning in Genesis 14:15.

Later, we see the prophet Isaiah declaring; (in strong, definitive language regardless of translation)

KJV-"Damascus is taken away from being a city, and it shall be a ruinous heap."

NKJV-"Behold, Damascus will cease from being a city, And it will be a ruinous heap."

NASB-"Behold, Damascus is about to be removed from being a city. And will become a fallen ruin."

NIV-"See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins."

NLT-"Look, Damascus will disappear! It will become a heap of ruins."

Yet as irony would have it, today Damascus has a "claim to fame" which is, that it is "the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world".

On CNN Presents March 15, 2003 ... "Lines in the Sand". Shelia Macvicar, CNN Senior International Correspondent, took a trip to the Middle East to see how a war with Iraq would play in the Arab world.

From the transcripts ... "When you talk about civilization, Syrians like to remind you their capital Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, an old culture that has slowly started to embrace reform. For nearly 20 years, Syria has been on the U.S. State Department's list of state sponsors of terror and it has not yet made peace with Israel...." Here's a few more ...

:: Prophecy or History?

"For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not." Job 33:14

One of the intriguing things about Bible Prophecy is that very often we find there is an immediate smaller or partial fulfillment foreshadowing a larger or complete fulfillment yet to come. Some use the phrase short and long term prophecy regarding this. Where as, some of what is being described in a given passage was applicable to the time period in which it was written ... further study may reveal a broader future fulfillment in these last days.

"When the prophets wrote, they were using a telescoping perspective, like a zoom lens with dynamic focal length. They would prophesy about something that would not be far away, and then, in the same breath, talk about something that would happen centuries later. That also resulted in double references, like an echo in advance. For instance, Daniel wrote of a particular king, but he was also referring to events in the final days..." (Learn the Bible in 24 Hours, pg. 126 - Dr. Chuck Missler)

One of the reasons that God may have designed Prophecy in this manner, could have been so that His true prophets would be validated by having their prophecies come to pass in their own lifetimes. (Deuteronomy 18:21-22) Then in doing this, also declare much more than was immediately apparent. Of course in hindsight, we can look at the bigger picture, and see - from our last days viewpoint - how incredibly God arranged these events. To be true. Then true again.

For a great example of this, let's take literal Babylon (Iraq) "the land of the Chaldeans" ... The destruction described in several passages is quite detailed, and it has not yet occurred. The Bible says it would be destroyed like Sodom & Gomorrah and would never be inhabited again etc. (Isaiah 14:19-22 ... Jeremiah 50:39-40) Babylon in fact, was conquered in 539 B.C. by Cyrus the Persian. But he took it without a battle and of this he bragged! "... without any battle, he entered the town, sparing any calamity..." (The Stele of Cyrus, The British Museum in London) There is clearly some unfinished business concerning Babylon.

Many believe this is also the case with the Damascus prophecies. While many prophecy students believe this event is yet future ... you may find multiple commentaries mentioning how Isaiah 17 was fulfilled in 2 Kings 16:9 when Tiglath-pileser "went up against Damascus". But, the city never ceased to exist. The strong wording of the passages that predict this city's dramatic and final judgment we believe are yet future.

(Recently we found a website, trying to discredit the Bible ... as coincidence would have it, one of the arguments they presented was that this prophecy in Isaiah 17 was never fulfilled! ... Stay tuned!)

This view is nothing new ... right after Israel became a Nation (May 14, 1948) fulfilling Bible Prophecy and kick-starting the last of the last days ... Damascus radio was calling on all Arabs to: "undertake the liberation battle that will tear the hearts from the bodies of the hateful Jews and trample them in the dust" - quoted in TIME, June 2, p. 20

:: Too Close for Comfort!

For those of you who think this horrific event could not occur, brace yourselves. On at least one occasion it almost did ...

On February 16, 2001 ... There was a combined American-British air raid against the Command/Control center in Iraq, 20 miles North of Baghdad. The intention was to pre-empt Saddam Hussein.

There were 2 US AWACS, 4 Hawkeye-A2C Spy Planes and 36 other US/British aircraft that took off from the Incherlik base in Turkey heading for Iraq. The Israeli Air Force was also involved. There were 35 JSOW missiles fired. They all missed their targets due to software problems. This simply strengthened Saddam's resolve.

A few days later U.S. satellites pick up 6 Iraqi divisions moving westward, including ground-to-ground missiles with launching equipment. The U.S. intelligence community estimated they would be ready for launch by Thursday evening, February 22, 2001. Israel placed their security forces and the Northern Israeli towns on alert.

Syrian President Bashar Assad granted permission for these 6 Iraqi divisions to be deployed on the Syrian-Iraqi border. He gave the Hizballah an OK to unleash a long-range rocket attack against northern Israel. The U.S. and Israeli governments issued grave warnings to the Syrian government. There were also massive Palestinian terrorists attacks being programmed as a signal for regional flare-up. Yassir Arafat arranged his personal evacuation contingences to Baghdad.

A message was sent thru Tony Blair warning Iraq that Israel was preparing a preemptive strike: There would be Neutron bombs on 6 Iraqi divisions and Nuclear strikes on Damascus & Baghdad.

The button was to be pushed at 7:30 PM Thursday Eve.

Iraqi surface missiles remained stationary; 7:30 PM: everyone stands down ... for the time being!

:: The Road To Damascus ...

When most people familiar with the Bible think of the road to Damascus , they are reminded of the location where the Apostle Paul was transformed from an enemy of Jesus Christ to one of His most zealous promoters. However with regard to current events and their relation to Bible prophecy, there is another meaning to the phrase "road to Damascus " many may not be aware of.

Based on a growing conflict between Israel and Syria , the destiny of Damascus , may soon be fulfilled according to Isaiah 17: 1-14. Consider the following news items that seem to provide the catalyst that could bring about and fulfill the very scenario Isaiah foretold.

Haaretz.com reported on January 21, 2004 that " Israel considered bombing Syrian targets in response to a deadly missile attack by Hezbollah on an Israeli Defense Forces bulldozer". [Syria completes CW warheads]

However, instead of attacking Syria , Israel struck at targets in Southern Lebanon in retaliation. The article also mentioned that U.S. Secretary of State Collin Powell condemned Hezbollah for the missile attack and warned Syria about their association with Hezbollah. "I would hope the Syrians should once again understand that any support – whether it is vocal support of allowing their leadership to stay in Damascus or whether it is serving as a transshipment point for weapons to Hezbollah – is destabilizing in the region and is not in the interests of peace," he said.

While the world watches whether or not Israel will strike back, another news item posted on January 20, 2004 helps explain Israel 's reluctance to attack Syria directly, at least at this time. According to a Middle East Newsline article titled "Syria Completes CW Warheads," we read:

Syria has completed chemical warheads for its arsenal of Scud-based missiles. U.S. officials said Syria , with help from North Korea , has succeeded in designing and installing CW warheads for the Scud B, Scud C and Scud D missiles. This provides Syria with warheads that can reach distances from 250 to nearly 700 kilometers. The chemical agent deployed in the CW warheads is sarin, regarded as the most toxic of material. [Israel mulled striking Syria in response to Hezbollah attack]

Keep your eyes focused on the Middle East – particularly Damascus . Remember when it comes to Bible Prophecy, you can be certain when God tells us about future events, the certainty of the event happening is 100 per cent. Someday Damascus will be leveled - perhaps current events are paving the way.

God promised Abraham (speaking of the Nation of Israel):

"I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee... Genesis 3:2 Yet the confederacy of nations that presently surround Israel are united by their hatred for her.

"For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee..." Psalm 83:2-5 Notice in the above passage Israel needed to be a nation (post 1948). The common bond that would unite these surrounding nations in their hatred of Israel was their Islamic religion which was not in existence until around the 7th century AD ... long after this Psalm was written. In history, this joint confederation, united against Israel, did not exist like this.

Many think these passages; Isaiah 17 , Jeremiah 49:23-27, Amos 1, Psalm 83 , Zechariah 9 and so on ... refer to a future judgment of some of Israel's immediate neighbors and may be fulfilled on the near horizon. This would then allow Israel to live under the allusion of "peace & safety".

We also know there will be a betrayer who pretends to be their friend who will eventually "by peace destroy many" (Daniel 8:23) ... he will "divide the land for gain". (Daniel 11:39) (See Also: profile of the Antichrist)

At some time in this chain of events this will cause an "evil thought" to enter the mind of Gog of Magog. (Ezekiel 38:10) He will align yet another confederacy against those (Israel) with unwalled villages who dwell in peace & safety. But God will intervene. (Ezekiel 38:11) (*Note: Israel is in some sort of "security" at the time of the Magog Invasion, which suggests that Isaiah 17, and the "Palestinian problem" etc ... has already been dealt with!) ...

However, in the above scenario, we hold to the view that the Rapture of the Church must occur before the Magog Invasion (Ezekiel 38) and before the "The Man of Peace" (Antichrist) is revealed. (2 Thessalonians 2)

We don't claim to know exactly how these events will play out, but we do know that God's Word is true. What it declares will happen, of this we are certain. The important issue is knowing The One who declares the end from the beginning! (Isaiah 46:9-10, Isaiah 42:9, John 13:19) God prewarned us - out of love - what these last days would be like. As we see Prophecy being fulfilled with lightening speed before our eyes, it is certainly a wake up call!

The current war in the Middle East and outcome will most likely reveal additional information and insight for the student of Bible prophecy and it could be very significant. I do not believe it will take much more time for the current conflict to run its course, if limited.

There are many inputs to this post and this is good because the Middle East is the focus of all of the visions of the Bible prophets, both in the past and for the immediate future in our day. It is the place on earth where the Lord will come to estblish His earthly Kingdom and He will rule from Jerusalem. The stage is being set for this future event at this time.

This war will take a little more time to conclude and it will be interesting to see any related political and religious landscape adjustments. I would say the following at this time:

1. The destructions of the city of Damascus recorded in Isaiah and Jeremiah are both historical, documented as historical facts, and these visions do not project a future destruction of the city in our day. Not that Middle Eastern cities won't be destroyed during the 70th week, but this will more than likely be at the hand of Satan's antichrist rather than Israel. He will conquer and rearrange the Middle East to fit his liking. The Lord will also do some moving and shaking at the end of the period at Armageddon when He turns on Satan and his followers.

2. I would also suggest strong possibilities for the rise of Satan's rule to come out of the Islamic presence in the Middle East rather than Europe, Russia, a global conspiracy movement, or the leadership of the RCC.

3. I would also point out that it will be Satan and his 11 horns(human agents) who will hate MBG's "great city" and destroy it in one hour. This could be the USA if we are close to the beginning of the 70th week. The nation is in this position today as described in the Book of Revelation. It may not be as time goes on, but it is today. The States are one united business and economic unit .... a "great city".

I think we will know more when the dust settles after the current war .... and some very significant revelations may surface. A more immediate shock is possible though and I would suggest that the confirmation of the convenant for 7 years by Satan's beast may already be in the making at this time, or even already enacted covertly.

This is a critical step and a necessary one for the beginning of the time of the end. Once enacted,(the confirmation of the covenant with many) the world will be officially and prophetically on the road to judgment from the Lord. Things will then began to play out exactly as predicted and with the impact of devastating judgments against an unbelieving and unsuspecting world .... the Middle East, and on a worldwide basis. All of these actions will lead to the visible appearance of the Lord to establish His rule.

If you are a believer and think that Lord will will come for you before the shock point ...... get ready to fly now. If you are a believer and think you will remain to experience these things ..... make certain that you are prepared for the journey now.

It is possible that the current war will not lead directly to the start gate of judgment .... but it could for sure. We will know the answer soon.

Didn't say the city of Damascus would never be destroyed "again" .... just that I think the prophecy you note has already been fulfilled in the past and within the context given. [Isaiah 17:1] records the Assyrian invasions of Damascus .. the city was destroyed and later re-built ... in conjunction with the assalt on the 10 northern tribes of Israel which is noted in the same passage.

Many cities in the Middle East, and the world for that matter, will be reduced to partial or complete rubble during the 70th week including Jerusalem. The Lord will not leave any of them standing by the end of the period. [Ezekiel 38:19] [Revelation 16:18-19]

Not trying to refute support for the 70th week, I am just very technical about the application of prophetic visions. There are many which have not been fulfilled in the past and are reserved for the 70th week which is most likely in our immediate future.

Minor point here ... but to be a city no more after destruction does not necessarily mean forever. It can simply mean that the existing city was destroyed. I believe this is the case in Isaiah 17:1. The Assyrian assalt on the northern division of Israel is also included in the immediate text and these joint invasions by Assyria are historical facts. The destruction and rebuilding of the same cities on the same mound is quite common in the Middle East.

Your presentation of the "Day of the Lord" is exactly correct. The Day of the Lord will begin without immediated warning .... "as a thief" ...., will include the 70th week, the Lord's 1,000 year millennial rule on the earth, and beyond. "Man's day" human rule (unregenerated human government) of the earth will cease as the Lord proceeds to take back His direct control.

After the 1,000 years Satan will be released from the abyss to deceive again and this rebellion will be quickly vanquished by the Lord. Satan will be destroyed in the lake of fire and new heavens (universe) and an earth will be created for eternity.

U.S. intelligence suspects Iraq's weapons of mass destruction have finally been located.

Unfortunately, getting to them will be nearly impossible for the United States and its allies, because the containers with the strategic materials are not in Iraq.

With illegal attacks across Israel’s internationally recognized borders, hostage taking of soldiers and a relentlessly raining of rockets and missiles upon Israel’s major cities, the Israeli Defense Forces have finally sprung into action. This is after months of “restraint” that world leaders are now calling upon them to use. The time for “restraint” has long passed, as I will demonstrate.



It is because of Israel’s compromise, appeasement and restraint that Hamas, Hizbollah and their true masters, Iran and Syria, have come to believe that “now” is the time to attack and destroy Israel.

Every time Israel unilaterally gave “land for peace”, as in Southern Lebanon and Gaza, the terrorist claimed it as their victory. Hamas used this claim to get elected by popular vote in the West Bank and Gaza. Hezbollah has used the same claim to move in a massive force that is now more powerful than the Lebanon’s army.

Every compromise that Israel has made to make peace with the Palestinians and the surrounding Muslim nations has been rewarded with more terrorism.

The de-facto rulers – Hamas in Gaza and the West Bank and Hizbollah in Lebanon have sworn to destroy the “Zionist Entity” (refusing even to call Israel a State). In fact their founding charter proclaims that their basis for existence is to destroy Israel. They have built up a formidable arsenal of rockets and missiles. They have smuggled in a trained and well-equipped army. Over recent weeks, they have launched ever-increasing numbers of more lethal rockets and missiles with greater range.

Hamas has hit the major fuel port of Ashkelon. Hizbollah has now repeatedly hit the third largest city in Israel, Haifa, killing and wounding many civilians. They have hit another major city, Tiberius, several times and caused serious damage and casualties. The leader of Hizbollah also has warned that he can hit Israel with chemical and biological warheads that can reach Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

The real leaders and suppliers of these terrorists, Iran and Syria, have warned that if Israel hits Syria, they will cause “unimaginable destruction to fall upon the ‘Zionist Entity’.”

As I have repeatedly warned on many occasions, the West, particularly the United States leaders, do not understand Fundamental Islam – which is according to the Koran and Islamic history, the only true expression of Islam. Based on these same founding documents, the so-called “Moderate Muslims” are labeled “apostates” by the Fundamentalists of both the Shi’ite Ayatollahs of Iran and the Sunni followers of Wahhabism.

It is time for the world to wake up. And I pray especially for our President and his cabinet to open their eyes to reality. Muslims only understand one language, “overwhelming power and the will to use it.” Fundamental Islam views kindness, compromise and appeasement as weakness and a failing of will to fight to survive. They see it as a sign that it is time to move in for the kill.

There is an even larger issue here. I believe that God gave Israel a miraculous victory in the Six Day War of June 1967. God gave Israel back the land that He had promised them as an everlasting possession. He did this at just the time He promised – in the “latter days” when He began to bring them back from their Second Dispersion.

Then, rather than believe their own Bible, Israeli leaders began to succumb to world pressure, rather than believe God’s promises. Piece by piece, Israeli leaders gave the Muslim usurpers, who were bent upon destroying them, land that God had miraculously restored to them.

It is important to note that every Israeli leader that was responsible for this met with tragic ends. Menachem Begin, who gave away the Sinai, resigned in disgrace in 1983, dying in seclusion in 1992.

Yitzhak Rabin, who was responsible for setting in motion the most disastrous compromise of faith of all –the Oslo Accord –, was assassinated.

The former great general, Ariel Sharon, betrayed the Jewish settlers in Gaza that he had encouraged to move there and gave Gaza away. He suffered a catastrophic stroke from which he will not recover.

Israel is now in the most dangerous position it has been since the founding of the State. I believe it is because they have tried to make peace with an enemy that openly declares their ultimate goal is the destruction of Israel.

And more importantly, I believe all this disaster is happening because Israelites have not believed and followed their own prophets.

The God of Israel, in sovereign grace, has sworn that this State that has been miraculously restored from the predicted second worldwide dispersion will never be totally destroyed again. But God does warn that Israel will go through terrible tribulation before the Messiah comes and fulfills His unconditional covenants with a believing remnant of Israelites. And this predicted tribulation is to sift out the true believers in Israel from those who don’t believe.

I fear for my country and its leaders. If we continue to push Israel to give away land and accept a two-state solution that any sane person can see will never work, God will judge the United States. We will fall overnight when God’s judgment comes. God has sworn concerning Abraham’s descendents, “I bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse.” That Divine oath has never been rescinded. The rise and fall of nations and empires can be traced to God keeping this oath.

United States must not fall in with the other world leaders and demand that Israel give only a “measured and balanced response” to the unprovoked atrocities Iran, Syria and their surrogates, Hamas and Hizbollah, have brought upon Israel. If Israel does not totally destroy these terrorist organizations now, they will face endless violence and suffering.

May the God of Israel and the true Messiah, the Lord Jesus, defend Israel and open the eyes of many – both Christians and Israelites.

WMDs—What Is Going On

Earlier this year, rumors began circulating in Washington, D.C., of a classified report that American troops had uncovered a cache of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in Iraq. Two congressmen, Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigan, began investigating the rumors to find out if they were true.

After badgering administration officials for months, the government finally declassified the report by the U.S. Army’s National Ground Intelligence Center (NGIC), and released it to the two legislators. The legislators immediately told the rest of Congress and released the report to the public because it gave clear evidence of Saddam’s weapons of mass destruction.

The report states that some 500 weapons of mass destruction have been found by coalition forces in Iraq. These munitions were mostly rockets and artillery shells with warheads that contained sarin gas and mustard-gas agents.

Sarin gas kills by attacking the neurological system, and mustard gas is a blister agent that produces burning wherever an individual comes in contact with it. It is potentially fatal if it gets into a person’s lungs. Sarin gas is the deadly chemical agent terrorists used in the deadly attack in 1995 on the Tokyo subway.

Toxic Weapons of Mass Destruction

Apparently, the WMDs discovered in Iraq were manufactured before the war began, and were some of the chemical WMDs that Saddam denied having and that the U.N. inspectors failed to find. These chemical agents “remain hazardous and potentially lethal,” NCIG’s grim report said.

Though hidden, the cache of 500 sarin, nerve and VX weapons made up one of the world’s major chemical weapons arsenals. Frank Gaffney, a former defense official who now heads the Center for Security Policy, asserts there can no doubt about WMDs in Iraq. When some protested that the munitions were old and had degraded, Army Colonel John Chiu said, “Regardless of the purity of the sample, any remaining agent [in the shells] is toxic, with potential to be lethal.”

Lieutenant General Michael D. Maples, Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, said:

The [chemical munitions found] would represent a danger in Iraq for those who could come in contact with them; or if they fell into the hands of others, potentially they could become a threat either within Iraq and, I believe as the Director of National Intelligence stated, the possibility of use outside of Iraq could not be ruled out.

In speaking for the Pentagon, General Maples told the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee that he expected more. “I do not believe we have found all the weapons,” he stated.

Revealing Weapons of Mass Deception

After a three-year drumbeat of hundreds of reports and stories about how no WMDs have been found in Iraq, and how Bush “lied” and is perceived to have lied so he could lead the U.S. into war, how did the mainstream media treat this revealing story that set the record straight? On the first day:

Neither ABC nor CBS reported the story.
NBC reported it in a single “Nightly News” story, but pooh-poohed it, claiming that “unnamed sources” at the Pentagon had “poured cold water” on the report.
CNN mentioned it in passing; but the newsperson, typically, read the paragraph with skepticism in his voice.
MSNBC mocked the story, calling the find in Iraq “weapons of minor discomfort.”
Only Fox News treated it as an important story.
The New York Times had nothing on it the first day. On the second day, they published a brief article, on page 20, under the headline: “For Diehards, Search for Iraq’s WMD Isn’t Over.”
The Washington Post ran only a five-paragraph article—on page 10.
The news magazines, Time and U.S. News did not even report it.
Newsweek dismissed the story with a headline about “trumped-up threats” in Iraq.
Senator Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania said, “Some may want to play down the significance of this report or even deny that WMDs have been found in Iraq, but I want to be absolutely clear about what we are talking about here. These 500 chemical munitions are weapons of mass destruction.”

The Forgotten Story

The story of WMDs being secretly spirited out of Iraq before the beginning of the war is another important—and largely unreported—story.

Clearly, Saddam had far more than the 500 WMDs the NGIC found, but where did they all go? John Shaw, Deputy Undersecretary of Defense just before and after Iraq’s liberation, was unambiguous in his answer:

[T]hey went to Syria and Lebanon. [They] were moved by Russian Spetsnaz (special forces) out of uniform, that were specifically sent to Iraq to move the weaponry and eradicate any evidence of its existence.

The international news media confirmed that countless Iraqi truck convoys crossed the Syrian border and returned empty, in the run-up to the war.

Sources have revealed that the former head of Russian intelligence head and KGB general, Yevgeni Primakov, went to Iraq in December 2002 to supervise the removal of WMDs. This was the same month Israeli intelligence discovered the operation. Primakov’s orders were “to erase all trace” of Russia’s extensive, long-term involvement in Saddam’s WMD programs.

Shaw’s account was corroborated by two former Iraqi generals: General Georges Sada, former second-in-command of the Saddam’s air force and author of Saddam’s Secrets, and General Ali Ibrahim al-Tikriti, the notorious “Butcher of Basra.”

They both confirmed separately that Iraq possessed significant chemical and biological weapons stockpiles, transported them across the Syrian border by truck and plane beginning in late 2002, and did so with Russian assistance.

John Loftus, a terrorism expert and former prosecutor for the U.S. Justice Department, said:

Every senior member of a Western, European, or Asian intelligence service whom I have ever met all agree that the Russians moved the last of the WMDs out of Iraq in the last few months before the war began.

On May 8, 2003, only a month after the fall of Baghdad, The Nation, a liberal magazine, scolded President Bush and the coalition troops for the looting in Iraq’s capital city. They wrote:

Looters cleaned out Iraq’s nuclear facilities long before U.S. investigators reached them. Were they (the looters) only scavengers who unknowingly grabbed radioactive material posing health and environmental dangers? Or were some terrorists looking for dirty-bomb material?

Meanwhile, terrorists have not been idle elsewhere. Palestinian news agency, Ramattan, recently reported that the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of Fatah, had announced that it has developed biological and chemical weapons. A leaflet they distributed said:

With the help of Allah, we are pleased to say that we succeeded in developing over 20 different types of biological and chemical weapons, this after a three-year effort.

On May 30, Iraqi and U.S. troops captured three leaders of insurgency cells in Baghdad who were identified as Palestinians.

The threat of wars and terror is a defining sign of the last days. Considering the fragile times in which we live, I believe that we should:

1. Carefully monitor the news and be as aware of what is happening in the world as we can.

2. Check every report we read or hear for accuracy. “Test all things; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

3. Trust in God, the One who knows the future and who holds the future.

We cannot go wrong in relying on him for salvation and for safety!
