This is the fourth largest earthquake in the world since 1900 and is the largest since the 1964 Prince William Sound, Alaska earthquake. In total, more than 283,100 people were killed, 14,100 are still listed as missing, and 1,126,900 were displaced by the earthquake and subsequent tsunami in 10 countries in South Asia and East Africa. The earthquake itself caused severe damage and casualties in northern Sumatra, Indonesia and in the Nicobar Islands, India. It was felt (IX) at Banda Aceh, (VIII) at Meulaboh and (IV) at Medan, Sumatra; (VII) at Port Blair, Andaman Islands, India; (III-V) in parts of Bangladesh, mainland India, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The tsunami caused more casualties than any other in recorded history and was recorded nearly world-wide on tide gauges in the Indian, Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. At least 108,100 people were killed and 127,700 are missing and presumed killed by the earthquake and tsunami in Indonesia. Tsunamis killed at least 30,900 people in Sri Lanka, 10,700 in India, 5,300 in Thailand, 150 in Somalia, 90 in Myanmar, 82 in Maldives, 68 in Malaysia, 10 in Tanzania, 3 in Seychelles, 2 in Bangladesh and 1 in Kenya. Tsunamis caused damage in Madagascar and Mauritius and caused minor damage at two places on the west coast of Australia. Seiches were observed in India and the United States and water level fluctuations occurred in wells in various parts of the United States. Subsidence and landslides were observed in Sumatra. A mud volcano near Baratang, Andaman Islands became active on December 28 and gas emissions were reported in Arakan, Myanmar. (last updated 2/15/05)

Mount St. Helens releasing lava at astonishing pace

Friday, December 30, 2005; Posted: 8:43 p.m. EST (01:43 GMT)

Mount St. Helens has been oozing lava at the rate of roughly ten cubic yards every three seconds. YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS

U.S. Geological Survey
or Create Your Own
Manage Alerts | What Is This? SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- Roughly every three seconds, the equivalent of a large dump truck load of lava -- 10 cubic yards -- oozes into the crater of Mount St. Helens, and with the molten rock comes a steady drumfire of small earthquakes.

The unremitting pace, going on for 15 months now, is uncommon, said U.S. Geological Survey geologist Dave Sherrod. Experts say it is unclear what the activity signifies or how much longer it will continue.

"One view of this eruption is that we're at the end of the eruption that began in 1980," Sherrod said. "If it hadn't been so cataclysmic ... it might instead have gone through 30 or 40 years of domebuilding and small explosions."

St. Helens' violent May 18, 1980, eruption blasted 3.7 billion cubic yards of ash and debris off the top of the mountain. Fifty-seven people died in the blast, which left a gaping crater in place of the perfect, snowclad cone that had marked the original 9,677-foot peak known as "America's Mount Fuji."

St. Helens -- now 8,325 feet -- rumbled for another six years, extruding 97 million cubic yards of lava onto the crater floor in a series of 22 eruptions that built a 876-foot dome.

The volcano, about 100 miles south of Seattle, fell silent in 1986.

Then, in September 2004, the low-level quakes began -- occasionally spiking above magnitude 3. Since then, the mountain has squeezed out about 102 million cubic yards of lava, more in 15 months than in the six years after the eruption.

Sherrod describes the movement of lava up through the volcano as being "like a sticky piston trying to rise in a rusty cylinder. These quakes are very small -- we think they're associated with that sticking and slipping as the ground is deformed and relaxes."

The dome collapses and grows and collapses and grows, he said. "It changes its location ... it can't seem to maintain its height at much more than it is now " -- about 1,300 feet. "Then it kind of shoves the sandpile aside and starts over."

It's not entirely clear where the lava is coming from. If it were being generated by the mountain, scientists would expect to see changes in the mountain's shape, its sides compressing as lava is spewed out.

At the current rate, "three or four months would have been enough time to exhaust what was standing in the conduit. ... The volume is greater than anything that could be standing in a narrow 3-mile pipe," Sherrod said.

That suggests resupply from greater depths, which normally would generate certain gases and deep earthquakes. Neither is being detected.

"That's one of the headscratchers, I guess," Sherrod said.

All the recent activity has remained within the crater, though scientists -- keenly aware of the potential damage that silica-laced ash can pose to jet engines -- monitor St. Helens closely for plumes of smoke and ash. Some have gone as high as 30,000 feet.

Quake measuring 7.3 recorded in South Atlantic

Jan. 2, 2006 10:06

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.3 was registered off the South Sandwich Islands in the South Atlantic Ocean, the US Geological Survey reported Monday.

The quake, centered 10 kilometers under the water some 345 kilometers (215 miles) southeast of Bristol Island in the South Sandwich Islands, a UK territory east of Argentina, struck at 5:10 a.m. local time (0610 GMT), the survey said on its Web site.

The Japanese weather agency reported the same earthquake with magnitude 7.5. No further information was available. The agency said they did not any information about whether the quake had triggered a tsunami.

Underwater quakes at low depths can cause a tsunami.

Hi Everyone

I've got some interesting news to share but first I want to say something that I don't like to do and yet it is necessary... I have to toot my own horn just a little...

Here goes... with everything I've written over the time this board has been up and with everything written on the website... in your estimation; am I fairly methodical? do I make attempts to be as careful as I possibly can?

The reason I ask this is a few months back I posted a chart on the website demonstrating a SPIKE in earthquakes 6.0 magnitude and stronger. The link to this page is http://www.shilohouse.org/earthquakes.htm

If you will notice in the decade of the 80's I show 86 earthquakes of magnatude 6.0 and greater and in the decade of the 90's I show 569 earthquakes again magnatude 6.0 and greater... and again from 2000 through 2005 I show 929 quakes (+6.0)

As I am preparing notes for Wednesday's radio broadcast I wanted to update through the end of 2005 and this is what I have found...

The charts where I got my information for the 80's and 90's has been modified

As I had to add up ten columns for 6.0 to 6.9 magnitude quakes and ten columns of 7.0 to 7.9 earthquakes and the same for 8,0 to 8,9 etc.; I was just inclined by how I am "wired " to re-add these figures several times in order to be sure my addition was correct...

I say this so you understand I KNOW I DID NOT MIS-READ ANY CHART OR MIS-CALCULATE MY ADDITION

NOW instead of 86 earthquakes (+6.0) in the 1980's --- the USGS website lists 1077 earthquakes (+6.0)

NOW instead of 569 earthquakes (+6.0) in the 1990's --- the site lists 1492 earthquakes (+6.0)

The spike in earthquakes magnitude 6.0 and stronger clearly WAS an historic fact that is now being hidden by changing the statistics for the past. I wonder if anyone else has been watching this spike and has similar records indicating what WAS on the USGS website?

Clearly this is an attempt to hide the increasing birth pains that Jesus spoke of from the general populace, and I am praying that more people have records so that this manipulation can be exposed.

Any comments or suggestions?

Blessings
Allen

Maz, its a question I have asked many times to myself and discussed with others about activities that are going on beneath the earth and in space that are being hushed up so not to panic the earths population.

What if there is 99.9% chance of a major seizmic disaster happening in 4 weeks time somewhere on this planet and the outcome of it would be the loss of millions of lives, what would the 'worlds' governement do? Would they tell the world and risk millions embarking on a mass exodus causing mayhem? I think not.

The same is the risk of asteroids, what if there is one on the way and the men in white coats are frantically trying to find a solution? Would the 'people that be' tell us about it.....NO.

Im not a geeky conspiracy theorist but I do believe there are massive cover ups going on concerning global issues.
jhamner
Cherry, I just watched an A&E episode about the tsunomi. The scientists have discovered the actual spot at the bottom of the ocean where the earth literally moved- sometimes upward up to 40 FEET!!!! This upward thrust occured for hundreds of miles. Their under-the-sea robots took pictures of all of this and it was truly horribly amazing.

What the report also said was terrifing. It basically said that along this same fault line the 2004 massive quake abruptly stopped. They predict that sometime in the VERY NEAR future the rest of the line will crack as the first part did. They believe the resulting quake could be even stronger than the one in 2004. Oh the catasrophe.

They believe that our west coast will be effected in a very real and dangerous way. Currently the government is trying to warn west coasters, but in typical style most people aren't paying attention and the warnings and supposed "safe zone" destinations are severely inadequate and dead wrong (PUN intended).

Again... the experts are saying it is only a matter of time. The resulting tention from the 2004 quake on the rest of the fault line is a disaster waiting to happen. It is not IF but WHEN.

This reminds me of the levees in New Orleans. Experts said to update- people didn't listen. Catasrophic results.

I know if I lived on the west coast- or any coast for that matter- I would have a mapped out plan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
lov4all
jhamner- I saw that too! It was crazy..... I loved watching all of the scientists being amazed and confounded!

I guess its just a waiting game now......

it makes me think of the "thief in the night"

....Just as many are being (will be) shocked by the erratic and catastrophic weather despite the warnings....

we should all pray...pray...pray....

What we recognize as birth pangs others think ????? scientific anomalies? weather patterns we haven't seen before??? global warming??? I guess they're all right to some degree..... but.....

I'm so glad we're children of the light... that we see and understand... smile.gif

3.6 Earthquake, Storms Hits New Madrid Area

January 3, 2006
Kerry Corum, New Media Producer
WFIE

No major damage has been reported from a minor earthquake that shook areas around the small town of Equality in southern Illinois.

The National Earthquake Information Center in Denver says the quake hit just before 4:00 PM Monday and registered a magnitude 3.6.

It was centered near Equality, Illinois, but it was felt by people as far away as Posey, Vanderburgh and even Henderson Counties.

USI Geologist Paul Doss says the epicenter was more than three miles deep and that accounts for why it was felt so far away. Doss also says it's coincidence that there have been nearly 30 earthquakes around the world since 7:00 Sunday night.

It's not just the rare Tri-State earthquake that has people worried - we also have yet to see any typical January weather. Storms that rumbled across the Tri-State Monday caused several tornado watches and warnings.

The warnings had residents of Evansville's Mill Creek Mobile Home Park hunkering down inside the underground shelter.

In the nearly two months since the November 6th tornado, park management has been installing restrooms and more TV's because the urge to seek shelter in a tornado has never been greater.

And while the Tri-State was spared from tornadoes, some areas in Kentucky weren't so lucky. Monday's storms spawned at least two reported tornadoes that caused damage in Hardin and Lincoln Counties.

In Hardin County, the storm leveled a food store, damaged homes and downed power lines and trees.

Hardin County school officials have called off classes for Tuesday.

Lincoln County authorities in central Kentucky reported that four or five homes were destroyed and four or five others damaged in the McKinney-area.

Officials say there were no reports of injuries in either county.

California 7.0 Quake

CALIFORNIA 7.0 QUAKE

January 4, 2006

Today's large 7.0 earthquake in an unpopulated region of Baja, California, was reported as affecting markets as far away as Europe, and was the third quake to exceed 7.0 within 2 days of the original 7.5 quake which shook the South Sandwich Islands on January 2nd. Auto sensors picked up the California quake as registering between magnitude 6.7 and 7.0, with the USGS giving the quake a preliminary magnitude of the lowest sensor reading of 6.7. I suspect that many government agencies originally list the lowest sensor reading in order to avoid panic, especially considering our fragile world economic systems, but the downside to this is that underestimating the size of a quake may affect regional and international tsunami warning systems. The Great Sumatra 9.3 quake on 12/26/04 was originally listed as magnitude 8.5, but later upgraded to 9.3 by many agencies around the world. In my opinion, from a prophetic perspective it would be better to list preliminary magnitudes from the highest sensor reading, then downgrade the quake later if appropriate. This advice is not given from the perspective of a scientist, but from a prophetic minister. Our annual New Year report will deal more with this topic. I in no way intend to criticize the fine men and women who are pioneering as experts in the field of seismology, but simply highlighting a seismic trend which needs to be addressed for coastal security reasons, a trend which may require adjustments in how we interact with tsunami warning agencies in the turbulent times ahead.

Blesings,

Timothy Snodgrass

A minor earthquake hit a small town in southern Illinois yesterday, raising questions again about the threat of a major earthquake for states sitting on or near the New Madrid fault line.

The quake struck yesterday at 3:48 p.m. and registered magnitude 3.6, according to information from the National Earthquake Information Center in Denver. The center of the earthquake was near Equality, Ill., which is about 120 miles southeast of St. Louis.

Calls were taken from people in Indiana and Kentucky, who felt tremors that came from Illinois earthquake, but the quake was unlikely to have caused any damage, according to the spokesperson from the National Earthquake Information Center.

Insurance Journal recently reported that experts disagree about the dangers of a major earthquake along New Madrid. A recent study by the University of Memphis indicated the the fault was active, while Purdue University experts downplayed the study saying that fault is not active or a threat.

Some insurers such as Safeco Insurance have ceased writing earthquake coverage in Illinois and Missouri. And, homeowners are inconsistent in their purchase of earthquake insurance. In Missouri less than 50 percent of homeowners near the fault line purchase the coverage.

Yet small earthquakes hit southern Illinois several times a year, according to a National Weather Service meteroligist, Jim Packett, Paducah, Ky.

Earthquake shakes Greece, felt in Israel

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
associated press and jpost staff, THE JERUSALEM POST Jan. 8, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A powerful earthquake shook Greece on Sunday and was felt as far away as the Middle East. Minor damage was reported in southern Greece, and authorities on the island of Crete said three people were slightly injured.

The Athens Geodynamic Institute, which initially gave a magnitude of 6.4, later amended it to 6.9 and said the epicenter was located beneath the seabed, about 200 kilometers (125 miles) south of Athens and 20 kilometers (12 miles) east of the island of Kithira.

"It was a very powerful quake which shook all of Greece. There have been dozens of aftershocks, four with a magnitude of 5," said institute head Giorgos Stavrakakis. "The quake occurred deep undersea and that's what saved us."

The earthquake occurred at 1:34 p.m. and was felt as far away as in Cairo, Egypt, about 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) southeast of the epicenter, as well as in Amman, Jordan.

Similarly, the Geophysical Institute of Israel reported that the quake was felt in Israel as well.

The quake was felt across southern Italy - in particular around Naples and Sicily - but there were no reports of damage or injuries, Italian news reports said. Some people ran into the streets and others phoned civil protection agencies or the fire department seeking information.

Clarice Nassif Ransom, a USGS spokeswoman in Washington, said scientists project that as many as six million people may have felt the earthquake.

"This is an area which regularly gives out strong quakes so we are not surprised. But we don't expect any serious aftershocks," Stavrakakis said.

Authorities on Kithira said the airport and about 50 old buildings had also been slightly damaged.

"We've had some damage to old buildings but nothing serious has occurred, and we have no reports of injuries," said Kithira mayor Andreas Kalligeros.

The US Geological Survey, based in Colorado, and the National Earthquake Information Center in Denver gave a preliminary magnitude of 6.7, while the University of Thessaloniki, which also has a geodynamic institute, reported a preliminary magnitude of 6.9. The reason for the discrepancies in magnitude was not immediately clear.

S Asia's deadly Himalayan fault
By Roland Pease
BBC science correspondent

Experts have long been warning of the danger of serious earthquakes in South Asia - and say more are likely.
Many have struck along the southern flanks of the Himalayas over past centuries - but not enough to account for all the steady, northward movement of India into Asia.

The earthquake in Pakistan is the result of India's long-term, gradual, geological movement north into Asia at a speed of five centimetres a year - a millimetre per week.

Earthquakes happen when energy stored up along geological faults, like the Himalayan thrust, is suddenly released.

The trouble is, the more time passes without seismic release, the more energy accumulates, making a giant earthquake more likely.

The latest earthquake fits in with the scientists' expectations but, at 7.6 on the Richter scale, is relatively weak compared to what they feared.

Nevertheless, it is likely to have been very destructive - the 2001 earthquake in the western Indian state of Gujurat was of a similar strength and killed 14,000 people.

But earthquakes tens of times more powerful must be expected, the experts warn - and could kill as many as a million on the Ganges plain.

What scientists cannot say is when the next one will strike - and that makes it far more difficult for them to convey their warning.

BULLETIN ITEM: Coles Is Flapping Arms, Warning of a 7.0 plus mag quake for
California Next 72 Hours

MWM: As indicated in the last two Earth Changes Bulletin Updates, all cosmic
vectors are primed for a major event in the Northern Arc of the Pacific Rim of
Fire, from California up to Alaska, and down to Japan. All sensitives should be
listened to, all erratic animal behavior taken note of. Be ready if in danger
zone, Watch and learn.

Hi Everyone,

The following is the new forecast pertaining to the letter Jack sent to the
Governor of California.

Stay Safe,
Kim

----------

NEW FORECAST FOR CALIFORNIA

On January 10th, 2006 SEVEN-TO-EIGHT VERY LARGE "INITIAL" SIGNALS were detected
indicating a large to great quake is in progress of happening in CALIFORNIA.
Estimated magnitude at this time is *7+. These initial signals were the largest
received and had the same signature pattern as those received for the 1994
Northridge and 1989 Loma Prieta earthquakes. We may have less than 72 hours to
prepare once the main signal takes place.

This forecast is in effect immediately extending through January 17th, 2006. The
confirming main signal could result in the release of seismic activity before
these most probable dates noted above. We will continue to monitor the situation
and bring you further news and updates as they may develop.

Currently the percentage of probability is 34%. This percentage can change
drastically once a main signal is detected.

*This forecast was issued based on the strength and signature pattern of the
seven-to-eight very strong initial signals. Once a main signal is detected a
more specific epicenter and magnitude may be determined. If such data is
received, than at that time, the location and percentage of certainty will be
adjusted accordingly.

MORE FROM COLES AND KIM, HIS ASSISTANT

Hi Everyone,

You might have read Jim's message a few days ago about the large number of
missing pets in Bakersfield, CA. I just received a message from someone who
wishes to remain anonymous at this time about very unusual animal behavior in
Southern California.

Here is the message excluding personal information.

Stay Safe!
Kim

Hello Kim,
My name is XXXXXXXX and I live in Palm Desert, CA (about 15 miles from Palm
Springs). I have been reading all the postings on the boards for a few months
now but never "joined". Because of a telephone call I had from a client today,
I decided to join the group here, but am not comfortable enough to actually post
on the real boards. BUT I wanted to let you know something, which may be
nothing, but it caught my attention for sure!

Palm Desert and Palm Springs lie in the Coachella Valley. Our valley is
surrounded by the San Jacinto and Santa Rosa mountains. The San Andreas fault,
as you know, runs right through the mountains on our side and parallel with our
valley.

We have the Bighorn Sheep Institute here, which for many years has been helping
to repopulate the natural bighorn sheep in the mountains.
(<http://www.bighorninstitute.org/>http://www.bighorninstitute.org/). They are
a protected species.
We have a client that telephoned me just a few minutes ago. Her backyard backs
up right to the mountains. The base of the mountain and her backyard is fenced
for the bighorn sheep's safety. Every once in awhile, she gets the joy of
seeing one or two bighorn sheep peek up at the top of the mountain. Today on
the mountain there are 21 (twenty one) bighorn sheep hearding around on the
mountain in her backyard. Highly, highly unusual for these sheep!
Now, this may be nothing, but with Jack's recent warnings and with the SAF being
just a couple of miles away, and knowing that the animals can sense impending
danger, I thought maybe I would let you know. Feel free to share this with the
list if you think anyone might be interested.

My client said she was going to grab her movie camera and get it on film and
also contact the institute to inform them something is up with their sheep.

Thanks,
XXXXX

Just an FYI... January 17th is the 12th anniversary of the 1994 Northridge Earthquake (6.7 magnitude) in CA. Don't know if the numbers mean anything, but would be eerie if a 7.0 happened on the same day. Saying prayers for everyone, be safe like Kim said. This is serious stuff!

HOMER -- Volcanic ash was dispersing and unlikely to fall in settled areas of Cook Inlet after a pair of small eruptions on Augustine Volcano early Wednesday, scientists said at midday.

Photo: Volcanic eruption in 2004. A volcano on an uninhabited island in the remote US state of Alaska erupted with two powerful explosions, US seismic experts said. (AFP/File)

Augustine Volcano exploded back to life for the first time in 20 years at around 4:44am (1444 GMT), spewing a large plume of ash and smoke into the sky from its summit, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The peak lies on a desolate island in Cook Inlet, which lies about 288 kilometers (180 miles) southwest of Anchorage.

The USGS, which raised its alert level for the are to red from orange, said it expected the eruption to be similar to ones in 1976 and 1986 when volcanic ash belched by the volcano was spread well beyond Cook Inlet.

However the US Weather Service said that so far the plume of smoke and ash was not heading towards Anchorage and had only travelled about 80 kilometers (50 miles) to the north and 48 kilometers to the east.

Experts said the seismicity in the area had died down but was likely to increase again soon.

Since spring 2005, the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) detected increasing unrest at Augustine Volcano which is laden with scientific instrumentation, according to the USGS.

"Our scientists were able to detect unrest and correctly forecast the likely behavior of the volcano before it erupted," said USGS Volcano Hazards Program Coordinator Doctor James Quick.
