I heard the hurricane could be hitting as early as tomorrow, the outer bands of it. I am praying also for the city and glad they had a better plan this time. It looks like a nightmare out there, with all the cars on the highway. it must be frightening for little children.

And, do not forget Jonah and ungodly Nineveh, the city of the idolaters, worshipers of Dagon, for the Lord had a Heart for their Salvation, so that they would be saved and know Him.

It is good and worthy to pray what shall be God's Will; and we are to pray for our enemies, the enemies of God and all that is Holy, for their own sake towards repentance and Salvation in Christ.

I will join in your prayers as I have been already. My family is in Slidell Louisiana and we lost my Mother-in-Law on the aftermath of Katrina as it flooded due to the surges from Lake Ponchartrain. My Father and the whole side of his family is there as is my husband kinfolks. My oldest daughter is in Mississippi. The rest of the family is in Florida. They are all leaving that area but some people are staying behind. Needless to say that I have been on my knees sending out prayers for them all.

I admire a strong faith and an obedient person, if God has told you to warn people by all mean do so and remind all of us how God dislike sin. However, God tells us how to warn of sin. I know this is an old cliche, but "hate the sin, love the sinner."

Can we follow His example? I have lost someone after Katrina and she was a good person, God fearing and great example to us all, she was an innocent victim of that storm. I live in California and I know that God is not very pleased with this state but I would want to reach out in love rather than in accusations and harsh rebuking. Let God decide who He will punish, we need to be his agents not his prosecutors.

Thiswind has been a good friend to me today. thank you for encouraging him/her in posting. We need bold people instead of the ones that feed you baby food. This is what the church wants to hear, just easy going news. But God will not speak this way, and we should be more gentle in our approach, but also to correct and warn.

I am absolutely amazed by Southern Hospitality!!!

My mom went back to Arkansas for a Burgess Family Reunion. I don't know if it was in Little Rock, Wooster, or some town with Pine Tree in the name. She went to a store in town to get a gift for her elderly aunt, but forgot to buy wrapping paper. The woman at the counter told her to go into her house, just a few doors down, look in her hutch drawer, and take what she needs. ...told her where the tape and bows were, the coffee pot, etc. This was just mind-bogling to those of us who grew up in California.

When I missed my plane in Houston, Texas, I had to sleep at the airport so I could catch the earliest flight to Missouri. One of the head security guards, a friendly, warm-hearted black woman,(no racial prejudice like I was once told) invited me to sleep on her couch, but I was afraid of missing my plane again. Unbelievable love, trust, and hospitality in these Southern States.

In Missouri, same thing....I ate dinner in a buffet with my daughter, and we had cornbread, greens with bacon, salmon, and fried okra!!! And the people were so friendly!!! I can't wait to go back to the South!!!

Seeing God's power played out in a giant storm is enough to envigorate and enliven those who prophecy unto God's glory. This storm of wind and water has become a storm of words here on this site.

Christians, please, I beg of you, step out of the storm and back into the calm of God's love.
We are all here for one reason, to bring Glory and honor to our heavenly Father. So bring honor back to the threads by by walking away from the personal jabs.

Christians, pray for God's mercy on those in the storm's path. Pray for the innocent children and those that turned away from God. They are in such danger. Pray for those who will lose everything they own and will soon be homeless and helpless.

Christians, I challenge you to place your personal problems, with others here, at the throne of grace and focus on the ones that we cannot help. Rise above the pettiness and fast and pray for those who are about to have their world torn to pieces. Please, I beg of you, please!

I pray for all who must either hunker down or who must escape the path of this hurricane. I call upon the name of Jesus to enshroud all of His Own who may be in the way of this passage of wrathful wind and water to be kept in confidence from it's fleeting embrace and to be able to rise up unconquored by it's effects upon the land. Hi Watcher, we're just catching the outer bands of rain now and not much wind...yet! Here in Mobile it should get started about 9:00 tonight so we're in for a long one. I know that with Ivan that hit a few years ago it was coming straight at Mobile and once it was on the Bay it took a sharp right and hit the Gulf Shores, Pensacola area.

I knew about the impact crater in the Yucatan Peninsula. But not the one near Montgomery, AL.

Gustav is now a category 3 Hurricaine. A major Hurricaine....but a "weak" category 3. Just got this off the weather channel.

Dawn is breaking and so far I haven't seen any trees down, we still have electricity (duh), so ....so far so good but we're on the outer reaches of this storm. I don't know where Watcher is located. Hurricane Gustav - A Call to Urgent Prayer

Dear Friends and Prayer Partners,

I woke up very early this morning with a growing concern. Here in the United States we are in a holiday weekend. But we are also facing a significant challenge. No doubt many of you are already praying - but would you take a couple of minutes to read the following. Then please join us in prayer and help to get this prayer alert out to others that can join with us both in the United States and around the world. Here's why.

History and Context:

In 2005 as Rita, a category 5 Hurricane was lining up for a direct hit on Houston, sustained winds had reached 180 miles per hour. Lt. Col. Warren Madden, a Hurricane Hunter and meteorologist for the Weather Channel, recorded a peak wind gust of 235 miles per hour while flying in the eye of the story and called Rita, "the strongest storm that I've ever been in."

It was indeed a killer, the strongest hurricane to enter the Gulf of Mexico at the time, surpassing the strength of Hurricane Katrina that had devastated New Orleans and the surrounding area only weeks earlier. As a result the largest mass evacuation in our nation's history began in the Greater Houston area, involving some 2.7 million people.

Suzette Caldwell, associate pastor for Windsor Village United Methodist Church and President of the Kingdom Builders' Prayer Institute, issued an urgent call to pray. A specific prayer assignment was given as people in Houston were encouraged to point their hands towards Rita and pray in unity. That call was picked up through the Houston Prays network and sent out to key prayer networks in places like Indonesia, India and to praying people literally around the world.

The Miracle:

Did God answer those prayers? We watched as Hurricane Rita shifted her course and landed 100 miles to the east in the least populated regions of the coast. The winds diminished from 180 to 115 miles per hour when the storm made landfall. Winds blowing offshore in Texas actually flattened the storm surge which was only seven feet in Galveston, well below the Galveston seawall. The five inches of rain expected to fall overnight in neighboring New Orleans also did not happen and the pressure on their levee system was eased. Following Rita, gas prices fell in the U.S. instead of rising as feared.

Current Challenge:

We are facing a new threat as Hurricane Gustav is moving toward the Gulf of Mexico. A line of storms is forming behind, including tropical storm Hanna. Water temperatures are very favorable for intensification of Hurricane Gustav. It has already reached Major Hurricane Status of category 4 with sustained winds of 145 miles per hour. Those winds are expected to strengthen with a growing probability of a full category 5 hurricane.

The implications of Gustav and this line of storms following for our entire nation are very significant, especially for the peoples along the Gulf Coast and in major cities of New Orleans and Houston. Evacuation plans are already in place as well as contingency plans for the GOP National Convention on Monday.

God was gracious to us during Rita as united prayers were lifted up in the area and around the world. Would you join with us in prayer once again?

Call to Urgent, United Prayer for Gustav:

Please join with us in faith as we unite our hearts in prayer. For those in the Gulf Area, you are encouraged to point your hands towards Gustav and pray the following:



The Prayer:

Father, we acknowledge you as Lord over the United States.

You reign above all gods. All power belongs to You.

We thank You for your continual protection and provision.

Using the authority given to us in the Name of Jesus, we speak to Hurricane Gustav and we command the winds and the storm to dissipate.

We ask for the peace of God to still Hurricane Gustav, and we declare that Gustav will not bring harm or destruction to New Orleans, Houston or the surrounding coastal areas.

We also speak to Hanna and the storms lining up following Gustav. We declare peace to these storms and we command them to dissipate and to do no harm.

Lord, we ask You to touch the heart of every believer in this area to pray against this hurricane. Raise up a Spirit of prayer and empower your people to pray effectively.

Father, please forgive our many sins. Please forgive our disobedience, rebellion, unbelief, and any forms of idolatry. Lord, help us to be a nation that is kind and forgiving to others.

Have mercy upon us. Lord, help us to overcome our temptations as a nation, and please deliver us from this impending destruction. We ask You to destroy every satanic assignment against our nation during this season.

Father, in Your great love and compassion we also ask you to protect the peoples of the islands in the path of Gustav, Hanna and these weather system.

Now to the King Eternal, Immortal, Invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. We ask this in Jesus' Name, Amen.

Praying for the families that live in different states far away from the Gulf and who can only watch what is going on. I ask in Jesus name that you would keep the lines of communications open so that we may know how they are doing. I live in San Diego and my family is in the midst of the storm. I ask in Jesus name that you give peace to those far away relatives, keep them safe Dear Lord, and comfort our hearts as we don't know exactly how they are doing. I pray Lord that you keep safe those who are reporting the news, those who are protecting the evacuated areas, the doctors and patients who stayed behind. As I join others in prayer I ask Lord that you have mercy on all in this area of instability. Father I also ask that you would touch the hearts of many so that those afflicted by this storm would receive all supplies and help in the aftermath.

With two political conventions and a killer hurricane on its way, no one is looking at the Middle East . A force play Condi Rice in being laid out for Ehud Olmert, and Mahmoud Abbas to divide Jerusalem and give away all the hill country of Judea and Samaria to the enemies of both Israel and the United States .

Rice is pushing very hard and putting all the pressure she can to get Olmert and Abbas to sign papers committing the next Israeli Government to keep that agreement. We all know that Olmert has almost a “ 0” approval ratting in Israel with no mandate to sign any agreement. Abbas has no power and no influence with the so-called “Palestinian people” to add insult to injury Bush has less than a 20% approval rating. We have here three failed leaders trying to do all they can to destroy little Israel , and using Rice as their tool to do the dirty work for them.

The day that Bush forced Sharon to destroy Gaza and make over 9,000 Jews in Israel homeless things have gone terribly wrong in the United State . Katrina was the opening call from God to repent and stop trying to divide Jerusalem . Gen. 12:3. Today we see Rice here with her final push under orders from President Bust to force Olmert and Abbas to sign papers that could potentially destroy Israel .

Today we also see another killer hurricane heading once again to New Orleans , even before it has hit land the entire city has been evacuated. I also think there is some interest in the fact that it’s coming with a Russian name Gustav.

We used to say maybe this or that would made Bush wake up, but the truth is he believes the Church has replaced Israel and he simply does not see it through God’s eyes or for that mater through the eyes of a real Christians. I could go on and on, but over the past few years I’ve said it all several times. All I can say now is God have mercy on the United States of America for it hasn’t seen nothing yet.

Jesus didn't condemn Jerusalem for rejecting Him; He wept for Jerusalem. Is not Jesus doing the same for America, or any other nation where both the righteous and unrighteous dwell, weeping for us, especially those who have rejected Him?

I would just like to give God the PRAISE!!!! He has answered our prayers!...a killer storm turn into nothing more than typical hurricane.

You know it says that His mercies and loving kindness are renewed every morning. NOT every other morning, or every once in a while, but EVERY SINGLE MORNING!!!!! What a wonderful, merciful God that we serve!!!!!!!


This reminds me of a miracle my mom told me that happened to her a long time ago when she was in College in Keene.
There was a F4 or F5 Tornado headed right towards Keene, and the devastation it had caused was incredible. And mom said that the people of that city, a good majority, meant up at the Church and prayed for Gods deliverance.
I don't remember all the little details but I remember mom telling me that after they had prayed and prayed, the tornado LITERALLY did a 180 degree turn, went completely around the city, and then continued on it's straight path.
Oh what a God of miracles!!!!!!! I tell you truthfully, that day left a HUGE impression on the people who were in that church praying. To see God work such a almighty miracle.

It does amaze me tho, when I see people surprised by this. Didn't Jesus walk on the waters of the sea when the wind and waves were boisterous and then calm the wind and waves once He got in the boat? We serve a God who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. NOTHING is impossible with God. AMEN!!!!!

Sounds like the mining town I mentioned on another post that virtually watched the fire change it's course.....away from the town.

Just like to do an update on the above...

God "emptied the city" but did not "breach" the walls. He had mercy on them, and yet He did not do so without warning signs to those who have ears to hear.

At the same time that Gustav was making landfall, and then pouring out its rain over land, four other storms formed. Hanna became a hurricane after being a tropical storm, and Ike and Josephine became named storms. And in the Pacific, Karina formed the next morning (of Sept. 2) even while Gustav was having its last report by the hurricane center.

That made four storms in the Atlantic, and one in the Pacific. While not a record, the timing of this notable phenomena should have caught our attention. (Five is the record for storms at once in the Atlantic.)

But to me, the real give-a-way that God was speaking was the name of the Pacific storm, "Karina?". We are told that Gustav could easily have been another Katrina, and Karina formed on Gustav's heels! Katrina and Karina!

Recall the above earlier statements about the significance of the timing of these things as far as it related to symbolic years back to the fall of Babylon, etc... Perhaps God is warning that although her fall is being delayed, yet it shall still surely come, and there are a host of storms waiting to do His bidding. Please note that the wicked city of New Orleans is only a type of the entire nation of America, who also flaunts her sins.

It all reminds me of this odd verse:

Isa 59:5 "You eat the deadly eggs of poisonous snakes, and more snakes crawl out from the eggs left to hatch."

He's showing us which way to turn..No one can say we aren't warned again and again with opportunities to extricate ourselves. He knows which way we will turn. I pray people get it.

WASHINGTON (AP) - The tropics seem to be going crazy what with the remnants of Gustav, the new threat from Hanna, a strengthening Ike and newcomer Josephine. Get used to it.
Hurricane experts say all the weather ingredients, which normally fluctuate, are set on boil for the formation of storms. And it's going to stay that way for a while, they said.
Four named storms at the same time is a bit odd, but not unprecedented, meteorologists said. In 1995 five named storms lived simultaneously. And in 1998 there were four hurricanes at the same. But wait and see what happens next.

"Give us time, this is only Tuesday," said meteorologist Dennis Feltgren, spokesman for an all-too-busy hurricane center in Miami.

The peak of hurricane season isn't until Sept. 10 and this season already has 10 named storms, which is the long-term average for an entire season.

"Normally in an active season, there are bunches of hurricanes and lulls. It just doesn't seem like there's been bunches of lulls. I sure hope we're not talking (hurricanes) Christmas Eve," said meteorology professor Hugh Willoughby at Florida International University.

Two hurricane prognosticators - including William Gray, who pioneered the field of storm season forecasts - predicted Tuesday that this month would be almost twice as busy as an average September. They forecast five named storms, four of them hurricanes and two of them major.

These latest predictions cover only September and are not a revision of the season-long forecast, which called for a total of nine Atlantic hurricanes through November.
