Sarkozy offers to negotiate Middle East peace
by Michael G. Mickey
(6-23-08)

Bible prophecy tells us that a prince (or leader) of Roman descent, the prophesied Antichrist to come, is going to confirm (or make strong) a seven-year covenant of peace in the Middle East between Israel and her enemies "with many", as seen in Daniel 9:26-27, this being the event that will trigger the onset of the prophesied seven-year Tribulation Period which will run concurrently with that covenant.

The Antichrist, who will identify himself by miraculously bringing a seven-year peace agreement to the troubled Middle East, will, if not initially acting in that capacity, go on to become the supreme leader of the revived Roman empire we today refer to as the European Union and, ultimately, a new world order that will encompass the entire globe as we see in Revelation 13:7-9:

And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

If any man have an ear, let him hear.
If Any Man Hath An Ear

For many years now, I've told my readers to keep an eye out for any signals that may emerge indicating that the revived Roman empire - not any single person but the revived Roman empire itself - may be about to step up its efforts where peacemaking in the Middle East is concerned as that is the vehicle by which the Antichrist will, sooner or later, arrive - an event that will be preceded by the Rapture of the Church.

Interestingly, as seen in a Reuters report, French president Nicolas Sarkozy, in a speech given today before Israel's parliament, put himself forward as a possible Middle East peace broker, offering to mobilize French troops if necessary. Sarkozy reportedly said (emphasis added mine), "France is ready to provide its guarantee, ready to mobilize its diplomatic service, its resources, its soldiers."

Revived Roman empire soldiers

In the days when Christ walked upon the earth, Roman empire soldiers were stationed throughout the Middle East. As we look at Bible prophecy it seems that the same is going to occur in the prophetic future as peacekeepers/soldiers, as we see in any number of instances in today's world, is the prescribed method used by governmental bodies around the world to confirm (or make strong) covenants of peace between rival factions that, left to their own devices, seem incapable of reaching peace any other way. I'm not dogmatically stating that this is how Daniel's prophecy of the Antichrist confirming peace will be fulfilled but it is the most likely scenario, in my humble opinion. And here that possibility is being hinted at, precisely as I've theorized it could play out.

This incident represents at least the second time in less than two years that the topic of revived Roman empire troops being placed in the Middle East to keep peace has been skirted, the last time that comes to mind for me being in July of 2006 when the EU considered deploying peacekeeping forces to Lebanon as seen in a Jersualem Post article.

Not only does Sarkozy's offer to negotiate peace and, hypothetically speaking, confirm peace between the Israelis and Palestinians send a chill down my spine as did last year's potential for the EU to get peacekeeping forces on the ground in the Middle East, France takes over the European Union's rotating presidency effective July 1st and we all know that, as the following excerpt from the Reuters report reminds us, President Bush hopes to see Middle East peace agreed upon before he leaves office in January of 2009:
France takes over the European Union's rotating six-month presidency on July 1, and as such will be a member of the Quartet of Middle East peace negotiators, along with Russia, the United States and the United Nations.

It was not clear how any facilitation of talks by Sarkozy would affect the Quartet's envoy, Tony Blair.

During his three-day state visit to Israel, which began on Sunday, Sarkozy has said an Israeli-Palestinian deal could be reached soon, a more optimistic view than most observers, who point to Olmert's weakness at home and divided Palestinians.

Despite deep public skepticism, the United States, the main broker in talks between Olmert and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, hopes that a framework statehood deal can be achieved before President George W. Bush leaves office in January.

So Much To Consider, So Little Time?

France is set to accept the presidency of the European Union on July 1, French president Nicholas Sarkozy is offering to negotiate peace and possibly confirm it, fellow member of the revived Roman empire Tony Blair is already serving in a peacemaking capacity of sorts for the international Quartet of the United States, Russia, the European Union and the United Nations, which could well be the "many" of Daniel 9:27 no matter how you slice it and the possibility, no matter how slim, is still being floated that some sort of peace may be on its way to the Middle East, potentially before George W. Bush leaves office in January of 2009! Are you with me thus far?

Surely, our redemption draweth nigh!

As I've documented to the best of my ability since creating RaptureAlert.com in 2003, events foretold in Bible prophecy are both appearing in the news of our world today on a routine basis and taking shape to appear as foretold thousands of years ago to the extent that I and other watchmen trying to document what's going on are often overwhelmed, struggling to get everything we want to get out to a lost and dying world as well as our brethren around the world, recorded on our websites before the trumpet sounds and the Church, triumphant in Christ, is called to meet the Lord in the air!

I often end my commentaries with an admonition for my readers to keep their eyes on the skies because Jesus Christ is coming soon. Today, having worked on the site for many hours and in need of a bit of rest, it's all I can do to slide away from the keyboard. Why? Because I don't know what I'll miss if I do!

The King is coming, Christians! He is coming soon!

Remain at your posts until relieved of duty.

....................................................benny cool.gif P.S....Consider all that I have been speaking on the topic of the Rapture and the time that we are now living in.And now this post....Is Sarkozy the anti-christ....God knows!.............But,But,But, if he is....then Look Up!Our redemption draweth nigh!!!In case some of you on this forum are not aware....Sarkozy is a Jew coming out of the reviving old Roman Empire.Remember!National Israel will not recognize him as the anti-christ until the event of the Abomination of Desolation. It is possible that We will recognize the ac before we are caught up, but that is not an absolute. We might get some more key indicaters before we go.But,again I could be wrong!Remember!..."That Day shall not come upon us as a thief!"

Wow, Benny, thanks for pointing me here... this is incredible... all you have mentioned seems perfectly clear to me that he could be the one. I am just dropping my jaw right now in wonder and also in hope that this is what we've been waiting for. I have been soooooo ready to go home, you can't believe how much... the longing to see my loved ones again, but most of all to see GOD. The song "I can only imagine" plays in my mind over and over again and I just am so overwhelmed by the last few months and the things that have occurred, that I believe this is the time. We can't hasten it but we can be ready. I am with you. I am looking up and very hard to sit far from the keyboard. You have done well, you and Loey both have given out information each day that informs us of the times we live in and the Middle East/US/World situations that are key to the End Times. Bless you for all your hard work, and Loey too. This is just incredible... I just pray that if it's true, it's over soon! AMEN AND AMEN! Hallelujah!!!!

Israeli soldier kills himself at Sarkozy farewell
By Haaretz Service
Tags: Benjamin Netanyahu

An Israeli soldier on the perimeter of a farewell airport ceremony for French President Nicolas Sarkozy apparently shot himself on Tuesday in a incident that did not endanger the visiting leader, Israel Radio said.

Television footage showed bodyguards hustling Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy into their airplane at Ben-Gurion Airport while other security men surrounded Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and moved him quickly toward his car.

The plane departed without further incident.

Israel Radio said the soldier was stationed 100 meters to 200 meters away from the plane. Two women soldiers who witnessed the shooting fainted and were treated by medics.

Volunteer medical service Zaka said the soldier apparently committed
suicide.

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday during a meeting with visiting Sarkozy that Jerusalem would never be divided in a future peace agreement with the Palestinians.

"Jerusalem is the historic capital of the Jewish people. Jerusalem will not be divided, and only Israeli control in the city will guarantee freedom of worship for all religions," Netanyahu, the chairman of the right-wing Likud party, said.

Netanyahu's comments came after the French president told the Knesset on Monday that the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of both Israel and a Palestinian state was a condition for peace. The Palestinians, he said, "have the right to a viable state of their own." He added that such a state would "ensure Israel's security."

Sarkozy also met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Bethlehem on Tuesday, at the end of a three-day visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Sarkozy is also slated to get a look at a new electric car, a French-Israeli project, in an event to be hosted by President Shimon Peres.

His first presidential visit to Israel, accompanied by his wife Carla Bruni and eager photojournalists, has been marked by mutual warmth and expressions of a renaissance in Franco-Israeli relations. Much of the visit has been carried live on Israeli television, in particular a tour of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.

Sarkozy also told the Knesset that Israel must end its settlement activity in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and said that there would be "no peace without a solution to the problem of the Palestinian refugees," a key sticking point in negotiations between the two sides. The French leader also urged Israel to "encourage legislation that would entice settlers to leave the West Bank."

He also spoke strongly against the Iranian nuclear threat. "A nuclear Iran is intolerable," Sarkozy told the lawmakers. "Anyone trying to destroy Israel will find France blocking the way."

The electric powered vehicle that will be presented to Sarkozy on Tuesday is at the center of a joint venture between automotive giant Renault-Nissan, which is building the car, and Project Better Place of Israel, which came up with the business model and is supposed to operate a recharging grid to be built across Israel beginning in 2009.

Sarkozy: "Move Jews Out of Judea and Samaria"
June 23….(IsraelNN.com) French President Nicolas Sarkozy asked the Knesset on Monday to recognize that "France will always be Israel's friend," and promptly called for the division of Jerusalem and for the expulsion of the Jews from Judea and Samaria. Speaking in French from the Knesset podium at a special session held in his honor, Sarkozy said, "Israel will always be every Jewish person's sanctuary. It is the only place where Jews will always be safe." He also called on the Palestinians to stop terrorism against Israel. Having received a red-carpet welcome from the Israeli government, Sarkozy vowed, "France will always be Israel's friend and will always stand in the way of those calling to destroy it."

(FOJ) French President Nicolas Sarkozy (L) is greeted by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ® and President Shimon Peres © before his speech upon his arrival to Israel at Ben Gurion airport near Tel Aviv. Sarkozy proclaimed his friendship for Israel at the start of a three-day visit on Sunday but also said Israeli security depended on the creation of a Palestinian state.

Stop Construction, Deport Jews, Divide Jerusalem

He emphasized, however, that there will never be peace in the Middle East until Israel stops building in Judea and Samaria, and said that the Knesset should pass a law to compensate and deport all the Jews currently living there. Sarkozy further said that Jerusalem must be divided into two capitals, including one for a future Palestinian state. The speech was the first by a French president in the Knesset since Francois Mitterrand addressed the plenum in 1982. In response, Knesset Speaker Dalia Itzik warned that terror has no boundaries, and that both Iranian nuclear power and Islamist terrorism "will reach Paris after Jerusalem and Tel Aviv." Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, in his greetings to the French president, said, "We thank you for your courage, for your principles and for your friendship. On behalf of the Israeli people and the State of Israel, I salute you… Israel is now hoping for just one more miracle – the miracle of peace. We believe it will come." Opposition leader and Likud party chairman MK Binyamin Netanyahu said, in his address at the session, that Israel would never agree to cede the Golan Heights or divide Jerusalem. Calling Sarkozy a "true friend of Israel," Netanyahu said, nevertheless that "Jerusalem will never be divided, just as no person would ever think of dividing any European state. We will never return to the 1967 borders and we will never withdraw from the Golan Heights."

What's this?

French President Nicolas Sarkozy and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas signed an agreement on Tuesday to establish an industrial zone in the Bethlehem area to boost the Palestinian economy.

Slideshow: Sarkozy in Israel The agreement was signed during Sarkozy's visit to Bethlehem, where he met with Abbas and other PA leaders.

Abbas thanked Sarkozy for agreeing to fund the $21 million project, which is expected to provide thousands of jobs.

Abbas also called on the European Union to play a more active role in solving the Israeli-Arab conflict.

The industrial zone will be built on a 530-dunam plot, PA officials said, expressing hope that the work would begin in the next few weeks.

After the meeting with Abbas, Sarkozy and his entourage visited the Church of the Nativity.

Abbas, speaking at a press conference in the city, hailed the French president as a "true and brave" friend. He added that the Palestinians were relying on the EU for financial aid.

Abbas said peace in the region depended on "removing the 60-year-old oppression" against the Palestinians. He called for dismantling Israel's security barrier in the West Bank and ending settlement there.

"Every Palestinian, be he or she a Muslim or Christian, should have the right to move around freely and to have free access to holy sites," Abbas said. "We hope to see the principles of the French Revolution, namely justice and friendship, implemented in Palestine."

Sarkozy described Abbas as a man of peace "whom we trust and support." He said his country's policy was to talk to men and women of peace and not terrorists. He added that during his talks with Israeli leaders, he had urged them to halt the policy of settlement construction.

Sarkozy also called on Israelis and Palestinians to "share" Jerusalem.

"It's a holy city for three faiths - Jews, Christians and Muslims," he said. "Can Jerusalem be for one party and not the other? I don't think so."

Earlier, Sarkozy dispatched his interior minister, Michele Alliot-Marie, to Ramallah to lay a wreath of flowers at the tomb of former PLO leader Yasser Arafat.

Simple,..appreciate that info...........I already posted a large biography on this guy awhile back. This guy is very suspicious propheticly.Especially considering the timing of the other events going down at the same moment. As a pre-trib believer....there are no absolutes that "we" can know the identity of the ac, before we are caught up....but it is possible!....The catch is,...National Israel will not recognize the ac as such....not until the A.O.D.....At this time, national Israel have been giving this guy praise, and have stated the he is the only voice that they trust in Europe. He seems to be trying to take the lead in the peace negotiations. He has already called for a one world government and has even suggested to break the earth up into 10 global regions. He is the brainchild to the introduction of the Medterranian Union. And He is the President of France, which was very anti-semetic during world war two......I do not know if we would still be here when the words 7 years is brought to the table. The stages that lead towards the last 7 years are set up, but all awaiting one event....the Rapture.

What's this?

Anti-Semitism contributed to Mimi Marks's decision to leave France 10 years ago, so it was with mixed feelings that she observed the pomp and ceremony surrounding the Israeli visit of French President Nicholas Sarkozy and his wife this week.

"I left France nearly 10 years ago, and every time I go back [anti-Semitism] gets worse and worse... it did affect my decision to come [to Israel]... We feel the situation [there] is out of control."

Still, Sarkozy's visit struck a chord with many French immigrants like Marks. She is one of 21,000 Jews who have made aliya from France in the last 10 years, according to The Jewish Agency.

In light of France's sometimes fragile relationship with its own Jewry, Sarkozy's support is especially significant.

"Jewish people like Sarkozy in France and also here," said Raphael Aouate, who made aliya from France three years ago. "He said good things about Jews and Israel. It's quite new, because [Jacques] Chirac was not at all like that. He was aggressive with Israel."

Sarkozy's agenda for his three-day trip contrasts significantly from that of his predecessor, whose presidential visit in 1996 was criticized in some quarters for directing its focus on the Arab population.

Many French Jews celebrate Sarkozy as a notable improvement for Israel and for the Jewish people, and are encouraged by his presence in the country.

"We all voted for [Sarkozy] because we thought he was able to bring a change to anti-Semitism and crime," Marks said. "He has a strong opinion against it."

But despite the public support of Sarkozy, many French olim believe it naive to claim that the situation for French Jews has improved since his election. In fact, just hours before Sarkozy's plane touched down at Ben-Gurion International Airport, a Jewish Parisian teenager was left comatose after what was deemed an anti-Semitic assault.

"I'm almost sure it would be an error to think things have changed," said Aouate, "You can't say that one man, even if he is the president of a nation, can change mentalities."

The visit to Israel by Sarkozy, a self-proclaimed friend of Israel, reflects the increasingly positive relationship between Israel and France, something many French Jews are happy about.

"Obviously it's good for France to have a good relationship with Israel," said Marks.

Daniel's passage of descripion here gives the personality of the little horn, human king of the northern Middle East. This human king will be far different than any ordinary human

He will not regard the Lord who is the only god of all humanity

Neither will he regard Him as "savior" [the desire of women to be the "mother of", an ancient pagan theology]

Instead, He will openly blaspheme Jesus Christ saying that He is not the Son of God

He will consider to be a god himself and will magnify himself above all others

He will not be a pagan and his cult religion will be monotheistic

Keep in mind just who this little horn is

He is Abaddon-Apollyon, a fallen angelic manifested in the human king [the little horn]

This beast will represent Satan who is his leader and "god"

Satan will give him power and great authority upon the earth

Satan and Abaddon-Apolloyn rebelled against the Lord long ago and they will cause the human rebellion during the tribulation period

The Lord will remove His restraint against satanic convergence as a part of His coming judgment period and Satan will be allowed to present his beast .... his "christ"

Is this a description of Sarkozy?

I would say no

There are other components of the little horn's profile recorded in scripture

Does Sarkozy have a fierce countenance?

Is he the "Assyrian" from the northern Middle East?

Would the current inhabitants of the Middle East worship him as a "god"?

When the little horn appears there will be no question as to his identification

He will be the combination of a fallen angelic and a human ... a first for humanity

He will have supernatural abilities far beyond ordinary human capacity

Sarkozy?

I would say no

There are a lot of things about Sarkozy that has not yet been posted, such as his intention for the E.U. armies, and N.A.T.O.

French EU presidency still aims high despite Irish 'no' crisis
26 June 2008, 12:28 CET
(PARIS) - President Nicolas Sarkozy is still hoping to push through ambitious projects when France takes the helm of the European Union next week despite Ireland's rejection of the EU reform treaty.

Sarkozy had hoped to concentrate the six-month presidency on key areas such as immigration, European defence, energy and climate change and his cherished Mediterranean Union project when France takes over from Slovenia on July 1.

But France will now have to spend a lot of time dealing with the institutional crisis sparked by Irish voters' rejection earlier this month of the so-called Lisbon Treaty that was meant to streamline EU institutions as the bloc expands.

Ireland, the only EU state constitutionally obliged to hold a referendum on the charter that must be ratified by all 27 member states, rejected the treaty by 53.4 percent.

EU leaders have asked Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen to report back in October on what he thinks the best options are for the treaty.

In the meantime, France says it will not try to steamroll through a solution to the constitutional conundrum.

"Forcing it (the Lisbon treaty) through won't be on the agenda," French European Affairs Minister Jean-Pierre Jouyet said this week, while also confirming that Sarkozy will travel to Ireland on July 11 to "get a sense of the discontent and questions of the Irish."

"Do they want guarantees on their neutrality, reassurance on their religious values, notably on abortion, guarantees on aid? Right now I don't know," he admitted.

"Then we must analyse the consequences of the Irish demands, knowing that the great majority of EU member states are not in favour of reopening the treaty" for alterations, Jouyet said.

"An important part of the French (EU) presidency's work will be to put the 27 back on the rails," he concluded.

That aside, Sarkozy will also try to push through a string of projects, the most high-profile of which is his proposed Mediterranean Union, which he hopes to launch at a major summit in Paris on July 13.

The Mediterranean project aims to improve trade, transport and energy links between the EU and nations around the Mediterranean including Morocco, Syria, Israel and Turkey.

Under pressure from Berlin, however, Sarkozy's initial proposal was changed radically to include all EU members, instead of only those with a Mediterranean shoreline.

Britain has warned meanwhile the Mediterranean Union could not be seen as an alternative to Turkish membership of the EU. Sarkozy is a staunch opponent of Turkey's entry and advocates a "special partnership" instead.

France also wants to drive through a new European immigration pact that would ban blanket amnesties for illegal immigrants, set up a new "integration contract" for newly-arriving foreigners and introduce new rules for asylum seekers.

And it hopes to secure agreement on a climate-energy package which would enable the EU to present a united front in tackling global warming and spiralling energy costs.

Sarkozy has also said he will fight for his plan to suspend sales tax on oil in response to soaring fuel prices, a move which commentators say is aimed at showing Europeans the EU can take measures that directly improve their lives.

The French leader has pledged to pursue efforts to build a European defence despite Ireland's rejection of the EU treaty.

The French EU presidency will be the "first step in re-launching European defence for the coming years," said Sarkozy last week. His officials have drawn up a report calling for the creation of a 60,000-strong EU force.

Sylvie Goulard, head of the French branch of the European Movement pressure group, said that "it's probably on energy-climate and migration that we will see results" during France's presidency.

"I think that the stakes are considerable and it's probably there that we will see if the (French) presidency has succeeded or not," she said.

Nicolas" means "conqueror of the people." The surname Sarkozy, moreover, refers to someone from Sárköz, a region of Hungary. According to various linguistic theories, the Hungarians inherited their non-Indo-European language from the Turks or possibly even the Sumerians. It is possibly through this route that "Sarkozy" traces its ultimate origin to ancient Assyria, where "sar" means prince and "kusi," refers to an inhabitant of the ancient land of Kush, probably Ethiopia. Kush, or Cush, in turn, means "dark." Hence, Sarkozy literally means "Prince of Darkness," a term that the president's detractors actually applied to him in his role of tough-talking Interior Minister during the November 2005 riots that rocked France. In conclusion, then, Nicolas Sarkozy boasts a name that is a very suitable for Antichrist.

Andorra, officially the Principality of Andorra (Catalan: Principat d'Andorra), is a small landlocked country in western Europe, located in the eastern Pyrenees mountains and bordered by Spain and France. Once isolated, it is currently a prosperous country mainly because of tourism and its status as a tax haven. The people of Andorra are currently listed as having the highest human life expectancies on Earth, at an average of 83.5 years at birth (2007 est).[1]
The name "Andorra" is of unknown origin but, according to Joan Coromines, pre-Roman.[citation needed] The name Andorra may be derived from al-Darra (الدّارة), the Arabic word for forest.[citation needed] Many of the local toponyms are of Iberian origin.

[edit] History

...Olivier Sarkozy, his half-brother, was chosen by the Carlyle Group, in March 2008, as co-head and managing director of its recently launched global financial services division.[11]
Sarkozy is recognised by the right and left as a skilled politician and striking orator.[27] His supporters within France emphasise his charisma, political innovation and willingness to "make a dramatic break" amid mounting disaffection against “politics as usual"; some see him as wanting to depart from traditional French social and economic principles in favour of American-style economic reform. Overall, he is considered more pro-U.S. and pro-Israeli than most French politicians.

What Sarkozy's Strut May Reveal
by Michael G. Mickey
(7-17-08)

If the world stage had a spotlight, it would be squarely focused on French president Nicolas Sarkozy. Since taking the helm of the EU presidency on 7-1-08, he seems to be everywhere!

A Reuters story entitled "Sarkozy struts world stage, eyes leading role" highlights a number of issues Sarkozy is playing a role in, many of which have piqued the interest of those of us monitoring current events for evidence of future prophetic fulfillment.

The following is an excerpt from the Reuters story:

Two weeks of frenzied activity have laid bare President Nicolas Sarkozy's ambition to become a leading player in the Middle East peace process and put France at the centre of the world diplomatic stage.

Since the start of the month, Sarkozy has attended a Group of Eight summit in Japan, produced a command performance at the European parliament and hosted a meeting of 43 European Union and Mediterranean leaders to launch an EU-Med alliance.

Initial skepticism has given way to plaudits in recognition of his ability to bring together ancient foes Israel and Syria under the same roof and give a nudge to the region's perennially troubled peace process.
France has moved to front and center of the world's diplomatic stage with Sarkozy at its helm. That's no small feat to be sure but there's more.

The following is an excerpt from the Reuters story:

The rotating six-month EU presidency came at an inauspicious moment for Sarkozy on July 1, with his approval ratings sinking to a new low of 34 percent, hit by voter unhappiness over his abrasive personality and the feeble state of the economy.

Undeterred, Sarkozy has sought to take advantage of an opportunity on the European stage, with both Germany's Angela Merkel and Britain's Gordon Brown distracted by their internal political problems that have left a void at the top.

Sarkozy made clear how seriously he takes his EU role when he appeared before an often volatile European parliament last week, fielding questions for more than 3 hours without referring to notes, despite suffering jet lag after his Japan visit.

He laid out an ambitious program, offering the hope that he would find a way of salvaging a European Union reform treaty torpedoed by an Irish referendum "No" vote, and promising to reach a deal within the 27-nation bloc on climate change.

"I cannot remember during my 29 years in parliament seeing a European president spending 3-1/2 hours at a debate and answering all the questions," the assembly's head, German Hans-Gert Poettering, said.
Interestingly, Sarkozy finds himself in the spotlight of the world at a time when other leaders in the revived Roman empire of Bible prophecy and influential diplomats outside it are busy with other matters. He's tackling the obstacles that threaten the EU's progress and answering everyone's tough questions - all of them without so much as referring to a note! Pretty remarkable, in light of the size of the EU and its diverse range of issues.

As I documented in my commentary on the birth of the Mediterranean Union, Sarkozy is showing himself to be a very ambitious and talented leader. The Reuters story linked above reiterates that Sarkozy wants to play a "major role" in the Middle East peace process. At this point, one would have to wonder if anyone can stop him from doing just that!

Concerning the EU summit launching the Mediterranean Union, the Reuters report notes the following:

"This [the EU- Med summit] has shown that Europe and France are needed if there is to be peace (in the Middle East)," a satisfied Sarkozy told reporters on Monday.

The Frenchman appears keen to act as a mediator while the United States is distracted by its presidential election, and he has worked hard to convince Washington of his good intentions.
Here at RaptureAlert.com, the timing of activities taking place around the globe are always of interest.

For years on end I've told my readers to watch for a time to come when the focus of efforts to bring peace to the troubled Middle East would rest with the revived Roman empire, not so much the United States.

What Sarkozy's strut across the world stage may be telling us is that time is drawing near, if not here at this present hour.

Antichrist speculation

While an article like the Reuters story linked above and events of the nature we've seen take place recently can't be overlooked in any honest examination into the possibility that the advent of Antichrist may be drawing near, at the very least conditionally, I want everyone to absorb the information we're documenting here but be careful not to cast anyone in the role of Antichrist prematurely.

While recent events have Sarkozy resting at or near the top of most everyone's list of potential suspects to fill the role of Antichrist, I would point to the fact that the person who acts as the mediator of any peace covenant in the Middle East, even one seven years in duration, isn't necessarily the Antichrist.

What're you implying, Mike???

It is one thing to bring a peace covenant to the table that can be agreed upon in writing and a wholly different matter for such a covenant to be confirmed (or made strong).

While it is conceivable and probably likely that the mediator of the peace covenant prophesied in Daniel 9 will be the same individual who will confirm it "with many", it isn't a foregone conclusion.

Hypothetically, Sarkozy could mediate a peace treaty seven years in length and another leader, hypothetically EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, could be the one the EU chooses to oversee its implementation/confirmation. After all, Solana's current position held in the EU will command much more power than it presently does if Sarkozy succeeds in getting the Lisbon/EU treaty ratified as he hopes to during his six-month term as EU president.

Questions we don't NEED to answer but feel compelled to:

Could Nicolas Sarkozy be the Antichrist in the making? Sure.
Could Javier Solana be the Antichrist in the making? Sure.
Could Tony Blair, presently special Middle East envoy of the Quartet, be the Antichrist in the making? Again, he most certainly could!
Could someone we've never heard of or a relatively obscure leader in the EU right now be the Antichrist in the making? That's a possibility as well.
Could we be years away from the advent of Antichrist? Certainly. Only the Father knows for sure!
Where the Rapture of the Church is concerned, our focus needs to be on conditions that may be pointing toward Christ's return for His Church, not on who the Antichrist is going to be.

Quite frankly, I could care less who the Antichrist is or isn't going to be because, even if his advent occurs in my lifetime, I'll be kicking up gold dust near the Throne of my Heavenly Father before he becomes anyone I need to be dwelling on!

Being an ex-police officer, no one loves a good mystery more than I do. In fact, simply because I like piecing things together, I have to keep a leash on myself that I don't spend time I could utilize more effectively here in the last days on something we can't figure out with certainty this side of the Rapture of the Church anyhow! I think many people get caught up with Antichrist speculation easily if they're not careful. I discourage it for that reason and others.

In closing, what is most striking about the whole 'Sarkozy strut across the world' is he is strutting on behalf of the revived Roman empire, looking to get something concrete accomplished in the Middle East at a time when the world seems ready to blow apart at the seams on many fronts.

I've anticipated seeing news stories that read like the ones we've seen in recent weeks appear before our eyes for years now. In light of that, to say I'm stoked to see what, if anything, is going to materialize of greater interest than what we've seen thus far is an understatement.

Daily, or so it seems, the mountain of evidence pointing toward the return of Jesus Christ coming soon grows a little taller. I don't know about any of you but my hope is we're going home to be with our Lord soon. Until He does so, however? We still have work to do. There are lost souls out there to be won!

So, who wants to go with us? Anyone?

Sarkozy: Closer Ties For Syria, Lebanon

(CBS) This report was written by CBS News' George Baghdadi, traveling with the Syrian President in Paris.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ordinary Syrians have given wide praise to French President Nicolas Sarkozy's decision to re-engage in Middle East peacemaking - as their leader returned home after scoring a grand diplomatic comeback to the international stage after years of isolation.

Basher Al-Assad, treated to a red-carpet welcome at the Elysee, joined more than 40 leaders including Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert for a Paris summit on Sunday to launch a new Mediterranean union and cheered yesterday's traditional Bastille Day parade from the Champs-Elysees towards the Arc de Triomphe.

"Our aim is to get nations to sow the seeds of peace instead of hating one another and waging war. It is an historic achievement to have brought everyone to one place, around one table," Sarkozy told the conference.

The Syrian and Israeli leaders have never been closer, though there was no handshake, not even an eye contact between the two arch foes.

"We are not seeking symbols," Assad said on French television, adding he avoided the handshake because the two nations are still only in indirect peace talks.

"Once direct talks were launched, it could take as little as six months to reach a final deal," he added.

After eight years of stalemate and tension, the two countries announced in May that they had launched a bid to end one of the region's longest-running disputes through Turkish mediation. Three set of indirect talks had already gained progress, according to both sides.

The last talks direct between the Israel and Syria under U.S. sponsorship broke down eight years ago and Washington has been reluctant to re-engage with Damascus because of its role in Lebanon and close ties with Iran.

Ordinary Syrians are happy. The prestigious welcome for their president in Paris is an appealing payback and a crystal-clear sign that U.S. attempts to detach their country from the global scene have floundered. Bashar - perhaps for the first time in a long time - is enjoying a celebrity not prompted by fresh accusations of assassination or regional disorder.

The young leader, 42, grinned from ear to ear as he waved to the crowd of expatriate Syrians living in France, who waited for hours near the Intercontinental Hotel to greet him with his elegant wife, Asma.

"This is France that we would like to know and we did hear of in the past. Sarkozy has proved he wants to lead now a more balanced Arab policy. He has taken another path, away from his predecessor Jacques Chirac, and has better advanced to the cause of peace and prosperity in the Middle East," said a 24-year old student, waving a Syrian flag.

"Paris’s absence was absolutely against its own interest, too. Sarkozy has realized it was not France which helped broker the Doha agreement that ended the political stalemate in Lebanon. It is also Turkey - not Paris- that has helped the jumpstart of the talks between Damascus and Tel Aviv," he added.

The opening to Syria is especially interesting at a time when the fourth round of indirect negotiations is set at the end of July since he could add France's weight as a facilitator.

"Sarkozy's invitation to Assad is a very fortunate move, which sends a positive message to the seekers of a just and comprehensive peace settlement in the region," said Fadwa Omran, a 29-year-old girl, who came in from Strasburg with her two kids to salute Assad in the French capital.

Syrian official sources told CBS News that Sarkozy, whose country heads the rotating presidency of the European Union, was scheduled to fly to Damascus on September 8th to further ties with a country that was a former French colony. Syria may represent Paris' greatest possible sphere of influence in the Middle East.

"This is a very good time for Damascus. Seemingly, the perception of Syria started to change, from problem-maker to problem-solver," said Sami Mubayed, a political analyst and a professor at a Syrian university.

French FM to make four-nation Mideast tour
15 August 2008, 19:34 CET
(PARIS) - French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, whose country holds the European Union presidency, will head to the Middle East next Friday for a four-nation tour, diplomats said.

Kouchner will travel to Lebanon, Syria, Israel, the Palestinian territories and Egypt between August 22 and 25, diplomats said

The minister's visit to Damascus will be the first by a French government member since former president Jacques Chirac broke off ties in response to the February 2005 assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri.

France on Thursday hailed the decision by Syria and Lebanon to establish diplomatic relations as an "encouraging sign" for the region.

The French foreign ministry said in a statement Friday it "hopes" the decision will "rapidly take effect."

The decision was announced during a visit to Syria by President Michel Sleiman, the first by a Lebanese head of state since Syria ended almost 30 years of military domination over Lebanon in April 2005.

The two states have not had diplomatic ties since independence from colonial power France -- Lebanon in 1943 and Syria in 1946.
