People were forced to flee their homes across nine provinces, including Sichuan, still reeling from last month's earthquake that killed nearly 70,000 people, the official Xinhua News Agency said. It said at least 57 people died and eight were missing.

Heavy rain is expected to pummel the southern region over the next few days, said a spokesman at the China Meteorological Administration who refused to give his name as is customary.
"Continuing thunderstorms are expected for the next two days in the Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian regions," he said.

"The current water level has already surpassed the dangerous level of 6 meters (yards) and is now at 24 meters (yards). People in the relevant areas have already been evacuated."

Heavy rain in Sichuan, Guizhou and Yunnan provinces will further raise water levels downstream, especially in the coastal manufacturing powerhouse of Guangdong, Xinhua said. Most of those areas are expected to receive more heavy rain over the next 10 days.

The worst-hit province was Guangdong, were 20 people died and eight were missing, and 5.76 million people in 17 cities were affected, Xinhua said.

Streets and houses along the Xijiang River in Guangdong were submerged in the worst flooding to hit the Pearl River Delta region in 50 years, the official China Daily newspaper said.

"A major flood is feared if rain continues," Huang Boqing, deputy director of the Guangdong flood control and drought relief headquarters, was quoted as saying.

Vegetable prices in Guangdong have risen by 70 percent in four cities including Guangzhou, the paper said.

Economic losses have reached 10.6 billion yuan ($1.5 billion) because of the floods, it said. More than 45,000 houses collapsed and 140,000 had been damaged.

In Mid China 70,000 people are being evacuated because of persisting mud flows. The Chinese government wants to complete this evacuation, because in July the RAIN season starts.

We will have to wait and see, but it appears to me that God is timing these natural disasters in China with the Olympics in order to force China to open its doors to the spread of the Gospel more. All this is forcing openness. This month could be interesting.

Shekel, have you further researched the Bible Code about the Athens Olympics?
Something inside me keeps telling me that Athens was merely a shadow of what is to come.

By the way, I predicted the flood recently, in the forum "War Update".

CHINA - Pandas living in an earthquake-hit part of southwestern China have been evacuated to temporary shelters due to the continuing threat of landslides and other hazards. The area's annual rainy season starts in June, and rivers routinely overflow their banks. Landslides are a particular concern because the quake caused steep hillsides to shear away and crash into valleys below. Many of the slopes remain unstable and at risk of being washed away by rainstorms. It's not clear if all the pandas will eventually be relocated. Along with Wolong Nature Reserve, the quake damaged 48 other reserves created in the province to protect the pandas and other endangered species. Officials at Wolong have said they want to find a new home for the reserve but cannot do so until geologists have completely assessed the damage. It was not known how many wild pandas died in the quake.

Tropical Storm 'Frank' (international codename: Fengshen) is expected to strike southeast China on Wednesday. Both southeastern China and Taiwan will see heavy rain and thunderstorms due to the tropical storm. Japan will experience some lighter rain as a result of this system.

Landslide leaves 3,000 people isolated in southwest China quake region
By ASSOCIATED PRESS

Landslides have blocked a highway with rubble and isolated 3,000 people in a quake-hit town in southwest China, Xinhua News Agency said.

Heavy rains Monday pushed large amounts of unstable earth and rocks onto three different sections of the highway near Yingxiu town in Sichuan province, Xinhua reported.

Hundreds of rescuers were working to clear the road, Xinhua said, and the government is considering sending relief materials into Yingxiu by helicopter.

"We're not sure when the road will be reopened as the rain is really a problem. It may cause new landslides," an official with the Sichuan provincial highway administration was quoted as saying in the late Monday report.
