Why Ahmadinejad smiles

The regime affiliated Iranian Fars news agency published a sensational story this week. According to the Fars report, Saudi Arabia and Israel collaborated in killing Iranian terror-master Imad Mughniyeh. The story is important regardless of whether it is true. It is important because it says something important about the nature of Iran's relationship with Syria. Specifically, it says that Iran views Syria as a vassal state.

Why Iran wants war before Bush leaves office --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason Iran wants war before bush leaves is because in the worlds eyes bush is a warmonger Iran could start it and blame it on BUSH thats exactly why they keep bragging on there nuke program . Just like they almost started on jan 6 2008 in the persian gulf .
That is a very plausible interpretation of events , I haven't heard that anywhere, How did you come up with that?
-Ive been blessed
If Iran wanted war why not fire a missile at one of our ships in the Gulf?

In every single instance I can think of, the Arabs/Iranians want to give the appearance of being attacked FIRST. They will push, prod, beg, kick sand, talk trash and everything else you can think of to manipulate world opinion.
I believe Iran is doing exactly that--and they just may get it, too.

Because they do not want to start it
I hope Bush Drops a bomb on their Nuke facility right before he leaves office, othewise prepare for an arms race in the middle East (and They'll use them)
Don't count on it, though.
When you say "Because they do not want to start it". Do you feel they do not want war, or that they simply don't want to be sen as the nation that started it?

I'm inclined to believe this.
Well, the USA could launch maybe a cruise missle attack or something and just say it was overdue payback from Iran's unacceptable acts of aggression back in '79...
Vengence is best served cold...

I agree. Look at the incident with the British sailors. The Iranians pretended the British were in Iranian waters and then pounced on them for trespassing. They even faked up tapes. The Iranians were clearly trying to pick a fight, while at the same time appearing to be the grieved party.
Oh, and then, Ahmadinejad became Mr. Magnanimous and "pardoned" the British sailors, which seemed to be a nice gesture but really prevented the British from ever proving the innocence of the sailors.

Iran has been at low level or closed level war for years, we just keep upping the bar so we don't have to acknowledge it and respond in kind. Up until recently they were looking for how much they could get away with, without us responding. We helped them make it easy.
Now that they apparently want us to respond and we have worked ourselves into a corner....we have justified or overlooked all of these "proxy" or "subject" actions directed by Iran for so long, how do we hold Iran accountable now. We've spent a decade justifying why not to hold Iran accountable.
Oh what a tangled webb we weave......

... if we're foolish enough to take the bait and play the role.

Iran doesn't want a war. They're just like every Middle East muslim country' they call for the "Mother of All Wars" and promise to fight until every man, woman, and child dies in the process. But once the bullets start flying, their armed forces turn and run.
Don't get me wrong, they're very talented when it comes to blowing up civilians or intimidating those unable to protect themselves, but match them up against a modern, Western force and they'll surrender as soon as they see the whites of our eyes.

iran would like to be seen as the victim, they know they will need the help of other muslim people to defeat America, So yes they want war, but do not want to be seen as the nation who started it.
P.S. As soon as they think they can win it will start.
If Iran wanted war why not fire a missile at one of our ships in the Gulf?
Because they want to provoke but not start. The Iranian government officials are cowards..
It all goes back to their belief of matyrdom. So sad!!

Excellent point, history supports this. Being tribal nations, they do not have strong allegiances to their governments, or even to each other.

I think this is partially correct. Let's look at what happened in Iraq. Much of the Iraqi army simply melted away, and US forces high-fived each other on the objective, declaring victory. Slowly but surely, a deadly insurgency made itself known, run by the thousands of senior Iraqi army officers who had melted away. These were battalion commanders, brigade commanders, division commanders, and even corps commanders who had served and trained all their adult lives for war. Only now, they're waging war whilst wearing civilian clothes and blending into the population. I believe the Iranians have observed this and learned from it. Were we to invade, we would face some Iranian forces, but most would shed their uniforms and continue to fight as part of a potent insurgency. Only now, these would be Persians fighting together against foreign invaders, unhindered by the ethnic and religious splits we see among the Iraqi insurgency. An insurgency there would make the Iraqi insurgency seem very tame by comparison. I believe that is what they hope to accomplish with a US invasion - our final demise in the Middle East as we bleed ourselves dry in yet another deadly insurgency.
