Abbas says necessary to hold peace conference in Moscow

2008-03-22 00:45:33 Print

RAMALLAH, March 21 (Xinhua) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Friday that it was necessary to hold a peace conference on the Middle East in Moscow as soon as possible.

"The peace process needs a complete calm and an end of all settlement activities in the Palestinian territories," Abbas said at a joint press conference with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who is on a regional tour aimed at pushing forward the stalled Mideast peace process.

"We ask Mr. Lavrov to talk about the calm and ending settlements with other parties," Abbas said.

"Mr. Lavrov's visit is part of bilateral relations and part of Russia's role to push forward the peace process," he said.

Abbas also said that he discussed with Lavrov "the Russian support to the Palestinian Authority, the internal Palestinian situation and the ongoing dialogue between Hamas and Fatah in Yemen."

"I hope the dialogue in Yemen will succeed. We totally accept the Yemeni initiative for reconciliation," Abbas said. "We haven't reached an agreement, and I instructed to our delegation to stay in Yemen until Saturday."

"I hope by Saturday we will have something positive out of the talks," he said.

Since Wednesday, delegations from rival Abbas' Fatah and Hamas have been engaged in dialogue in Yemen in an attempt to resolve an internal Palestinian conflict that reached its peak in June 2007,when Hamas routed Fatah and took over Gaza.

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has presented a seven-point initiative to leaders of Hamas and Fatah, which suggested a reversion to the pre-June 2007 situation and holding early presidential and legislative elections.

The two movements, however, have failed to reach an agreement so far.

For his part, Lavrov called on Israel to end the blockade imposed on the Hamas-run Gaza Strip "in order to enable the Palestinian people live a normal life."

He also expressed his country's concerns over the Israeli continuation of settlement construction.

Lavrov told reporters that Russia was preparing for holding a peace conference in Moscow, adding the agenda of the conference will be an extension to the results of the U.S.-hosted Annapolis peace conference last November.

Lavrov didn't say when the conference on the Middle East peace will be held in Moscow, but he said that Russia was cooperating with the International Quartet and some Arab countries to prepare for the conference. ....

Well, it would probably be to their advantage if they waited until Obama was sworn in as US president. They'd most likely have more support from this side of the Atlantic.

Where is America in Ezekiel 38?
Jim Bramlett
Mar 22 2008 10:48AM

Dear friends:

There is much speculation about the whereabouts or lack thereof of the United States in the Gog-Magog war described in Ezekiel chapter 38. This message will speculate on several possibilities.

In that chapter, Israel is attacked by what is thought to be Russia and a consortium of other, mostly Muslim, nations. There is reason to believe that the scenario for this is rapidly forming, and it will happen perhaps at the beginning rather than the end of the Tribulation as some believe. In fact, there is already a security agreement between Russia (Magog, 38:2) and the leading terrorist state, Iran (Persia, 38:5). Russia is supplying Iran with nuclear materials and some claim, on the black market, with nuclear warheads.

When attacked, Israel is miraculously saved and the enemy forces are destroyed by God Himself. But Israel's main ally, the once-powerful U.S., is not mentioned. In fact, no one is mentioned as coming to her defense, although "Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof" timidly ask a rhetorical question, sounding like, "Hey, what y'all doing?"

Some believe those "young lions" (or offspring) of Tarshish are the UK and America, but it is uncertain.

I suspect this weak question will be made before the effete U.N. Security Council. (The dictionary defines effete as "depleted of vitality, force, or effectiveness; exhausted, marked by self-indulgence, triviality, or decadence." How appropriate!)

Russia might answer that question by saying, "We are conquering the Middle East. So what are you going to do about it?" But God will answer their question!

If, in fact, the United States is conspicuous by its absence, what happened to us? Below are some possibilities. Mind you, I just say possibilities. This is only speculation.

1. The first possibility is that the U.S. is greatly weakened by the previous rapture event and the removal of key people throughout the population, including the military.

2. A second possibility is that the U.S. has been neutralized as a military power by a preemptive attack by Russia. This would give Russian military planners an assumed and enticing cakewalk to a Middle East takeover, ownership of the oil fields, new mineral resources and an expansion to the Persian Gulf, revitalizing Russia as a power as envisioned by Vladimir Putin. This is a stated goal of at least one Russian radical, Vladimir Zhirinovski, whose autobiography is prophetically titled The Last March South! While Zhirinovsky may never rise to power, this territorial ambition is undoubtedly shared by other nationalists.

There have been reported revelations of such a surprise attack by Russian submarines. Perry Stone's father, a respected older pastor, had an angel visit in his home, in his study, late at night, with the message of a Russian surprise nuclear attack from submarines. The being just suddenly appeared and disappeared out of nowhere.

George Washington reportedly had a vision in his day of America's major wars and a final military attack on America. Also, read about A.A. Allen's 1954 vision of an attack on America: click here.

3. Third, Islamic terrorism, using weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) such as nukes, poses an immediate threat to decapitate and destroy America. Such a coordinated attack could cripple us.

4. Fourth, there is a possibility that a new President could be dedicated to disarming the United States. This is a danger of both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Hillary's hubby, Bill, greatly weakened the U.S. military during his eight years and once said that he "loathes the military." That was obvious for this draft dodger. I suspect she is the same. Both are products of the weed-smoking, anti-military hippy generation.

But I am more concerned with Barack Obama. By his own video admission, he promises to dramatically reduce our defenses. You will be shocked at his 52-second statement at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dl32Y7wDVDs. I first saw this video several weeks ago, but the truth suddenly clicked recently after I heard the rants of his anti-American, racist, anti-Israel pastor Jeremiah Wright, to whom Obama proudly claims to have been a "disciple" for 20 years. This helped me understand Obama's stated feelings about our defense. Typically, disciples share the views of those who disciple them, although the pandering mainstream media do not want you to believe it in this case.

This "discipleship" from Pastor Wright may also affect Obama's attitude and our traditional policies toward Israel and her defense. The possibility of Obama's Presidency is frightening, but millions of deluded Americans may make it happen.

Of the above possibilities, I suspect one or more of the above four may be in play at the same time.

May God have mercy, but also hasten the time of the return of His Son.

U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Israel on Saturday for a meeting with Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and vowed the U.S. would never pressure Israel to take steps that threaten its security.

"America's commitment to Israel's security is enduring and unshakable, as is Israel's right to protect itself always against terrorism, rocket attacks and other attacks from forces dedicated to Israel's destruction," Cheney told a joint news conference with Olmert.

JERUSALEM - Vice President Dick Cheney said Saturday the U.S. has an "enduring and unshakable" commitment to Israel's security and its right to defend itself against those bent on destroying the Jewish state.

At the start of a weekend of talks with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, Cheney also said the Bush administration wants to see a "new beginning" for the Palestinian people and is committed to pursuing a Mideast peace deal.

Cheney's visit is part of the U.S. strategy to keep the pressure on the two sides, despite recent bloodshed, to agree on a framework for peace before President Bush leaves office in January.

"America's commitment to Israel's security is enduring and unshakable, as is our commitment to Israel's right to defend itself always against terrorism, rocket attacks and other threats from forces dedicated to Israel's destruction," Cheney told reporters before an evening meeting with Israel's prime minister, Ehud Olmert.

"America's committed to moving the process forward," Cheney said. But, he said, "it is not America's role to dictate the outcome." The U.S. wants to see a resolution to the conflict and will provide support and encouragement to help make that happen.

Cheney reaffirmed Washington's commitment to the establishment of a Palestinian state and assured Palestinian leaders that "they, too, can be certain of America's good will" as the U.S. tries to help Israel and the Palestinians reach an accord.

"We want to see a resolution to the conflict, an end to the terrorism that has caused so much grief to Israelis and a new beginning for the Palestinian people," he said.

He made direct mention of parts of the Middle East where the U.S. says efforts are under way to foment violence and undermine stability in the region.

"As we continue to work to peace, we must not and will not ignore the darkening shadows of the situations in Gaza, in Lebanon, in Syria and in Iran and the forces there that are working to derail the hopes of the world," Cheney said.

Speaking of the strong U.S. ally, Cheney said America "will never pressure Israel to take steps that threaten its security."

Olmert said Israel, too, is worried about Iran and is "anxious to carry on" negotiations with the Palestinians. His government is watching "the behavior of Syria and the Hezbollah

Russia to supply Abbas with armoured vehicles, no guns

JERUSALEM, March 21 (Reuters) - After months of delay, Russia agreed to Israeli conditions regarding the delivery of armoured vehicles to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's security forces, Israeli officials said on Friday. Israel agreed in November to allow the Palestinians to receive up to 50 lightly armoured vehicles but a dispute emerged over a Palestinian demand that they have guns mounted on them.

Israeli officials said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert during a meeting on Thursday that Russia agreed to shipping the vehicles without mounted guns.

The Pallys will end up mounting guns on these armoured vehicles anyway. I wouldn't be surprised to see Hamas running around in them a few days after Fatah takes delivery of them. They always help themselves to whatever Fatah gets in the way of military aid.

They already have enough guns from America

Russia knows how the Pals are going use it and I have no doubts that it was the very reason the Kremlin supplied them. Russia has become the leading supplier of arms to the world's troublemakers.

Israel can simply bomb the vehicles if necessary. If Russia or anyone else starts supplying fighters to them, then I'm sure Israel will deal with it on the spot.

Opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu called on Shas once again to quit the government following his meeting with US Vice President Richard Cheney in Jerusalem on Sunday morning.

"I say to my friends in Shas, don't allow these negotiations on Jerusalem, which were confirmed by Foreign Minister (Tzipi) Livni on Friday. Quit the government now and prevent this danger," Netanyahu told Ynet.

The opposition leader said that he had warned Cheney against the Iranian danger.

"I spoke to him about the need to remove the Iranian threat before (the Islamic republic) arms itself with a nuclear bomb. There are additional Iranian issues which must be prevented, including the need to prevent Iran from building its main bases in the region, from Gaza to Lebanon, and particularly in Jerusalem," he noted.

"I made it clear to him that if we leave Jerusalem, Hamas, Iran and other forces affiliated with them will take control of it. They will threaten Jerusalem's wellbeing, Israel's security and the freedom of worship of millions of pilgrims and members of the different religions arriving in the city today," Netanyahu said, noting that Cheney told him he was fully aware of the situation, as was US President George W. Bush.

THIS IS THE NUCLEAR EVENT WE HAVE TO FEAR:::::::stuff happened after market close on friday...it is possible that those events could lead to total meltdown of financial system even this week...so some of t hat prophecy (nuclear one) could be about this as the banks would definitely CLOSE!! Oh Lord have mercy on us all!!!

Fed's rescue halted a derivatives Chernobyl
23/03/2008
When the Federal Reserve stepped in to save Bear Stearns, most people had no idea what was at stake, writes Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

We may never know for sure whether the Federal Reserve's rescue of Bear Stearns averted a seizure of the $516 trillion derivatives system, the ultimate Chernobyl for global finance.

"If the Fed had not stepped in, we would have had pandemonium," said James Melcher, president of the New York hedge fund Balestra Capital.

"There was the risk of a total meltdown at the beginning of last week. I don't think most people have any idea how bad this chain could have been, andI am still not sure the Fed can maintain the solvency of the US banking system."....

"We've been worried for a long time there would be nobody to pay on the other side of our contracts, so we took profits early and got out of everything. The Greenspan policies that led to this have been the most irresponsible episode the world has ever seen," he said.

Fed chairman Ben Bernanke has moved with breathtaking speed to contain the crisis. Last Sunday night, he resorted to the "nuclear option", invoking a Depression-era clause - Article 13 (3) of the Federal Reserve Act - to be used in "unusual and exigent circumstances".

The emergency vote by five governors allows the Fed to shoulder $30bn of direct credit risk from the Bear Stearns carcass. By taking this course, the Fed has crossed the Rubicon of central banking....

The Bank for International Settlements uses a concept of "gross market value" to weight the real exposure. This is roughly 2 per cent of the notional level. For Bear Stearns this would be $270bn, or so.

"There is no real way to gauge the market risk," said an official

"We don't know how much is backed by collateral. We don't know what would happen in a crisis, and if we don't know, nobody does," he said.

Under the rescue deal, JP Morgan Chase will take over Bear Stearns' $13.4 trillion contracts - lock, stock, and barrel.

The US Federal Reserve building and Ben Bernanke, the Fed chairman

But JP Morgan is already up to its neck in this soup, with $77 trillion of contracts. It will now have $90 trillion on its books, a sixth of the global market....

http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/143712
(IsraelNN.com) Despite assurances by her boss, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, to the contrary, Foreign Minister Tsipi Livni said in a weekend interview with Channel Two that Jerusalem would indeed be a subject for negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. “All core issues are up for negotiations,” she said in the interview – regardless of what Shas was told or believes. The Likud reiterated its demand that Shas withdraw from the government, adding that the Olmert government was “dangerous for Israel.”
ARGH!!!
Everyone has known this for a long time. The Palis were even honest enough to plainly state this from the beginning. But these really stupid power brokers from Shas have really been taken in by Olmert's lies. Shas cares more about their perks than the future of Jerusalem. The number of confirmed salmonella cases rose in a southern Colorado city on Thursday, as health officials investigated whether the outbreak was caused by tainted tap water. Alamosa spokeswoman Connie Ricci said there were 47 confirmed cases of salmonella among city residents, up from 33 a day before. She said 76 other cases were under investigation. Health officials said the tap water in Alamosa, a community of 8,500 about 160 miles south of Denver, tested positive for bacteria that are believed to be salmonella, but they were still awaiting final test results for confirmation. The cause of the contamination was under investigation. Health officials have warned residents to boil tap water for 15 seconds to kill the bacteria, or use bottled water for brushing teeth, washing dishes, making ice, cooking, drinking and making baby formula. They said people can use tap water to bathe, as long as they are careful not to ingest it. City and county officials set up four centers where residents could get free bottled water or bring containers to fill with safe water, Ricci said. Residents were limited to one gallon of free water per person per day.

State emergency management officials activated an emergency operations center in the Denver suburb of Centennial to help coordinate deliveries of bottled water. Timothy Rivera, the manager of Mrs. Rivera's Kitchen in a downtown Alamosa, said the restaurant stayed closed Thursday because of the outbreak. "It takes a lot of manpower for all this stuff. We have to boil water for everything, to wash dishes," he said. "We have to have bottled water, we have to have ice. There's lots of things to take into consideration." He said he hoped to reopen Friday. Waterborne salmonella outbreaks are fairly rare, said Mark Salley, a spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The bacteria are typically spread by food, he said. Salmonella can cause diarrhea, fever and stomach pain. Victims typically recover on their own, but the elderly, infants and people with impaired immune systems may require treatment. Untreated, salmonella can cause death in vulnerable victims, the health department said.

City officials plan to start flushing and disinfecting the water system in the next few days, a process that could take a week or more. While the flush is under way, no municipal water should be used, even if it is boiled, they said. Authorities said the first salmonella victim began showing symptoms around March 8, and state health officials became aware of the outbreak Friday. Officials tested city water on Monday, and the results showing bacteria in the water system came back Wednesday.)

US 'deploys nuclear sub to Persian Gulf'
Sun, 23 Mar 2008 19:46:06

USS Montpelier crossing the Suez Canal, Feb. 2003
An American nuclear submarine has crossed the Suez Canal to join the US fleet stationed in the Persian Gulf, Egyptian sources say.

Egyptian officials reported that the nuclear submarine crossed the canal along with a destroyer on Friday and Egyptian forces were put on high alert when the navy convoy was passing through the canal.

An American destroyer recently left the Persian Gulf, heading towards the Mediterranean Sea; earlier Thursday, a US Navy rescue ship crossed the canal to enter the Red Sea.

The deployment comes as recent reports allege that US Vice President Dick Cheney is seeking to rally the support of Middle Eastern states for launching an attack on Iran.

This is while US officials deny that Cheney's Mideast tour is linked to a possible military attack on Iran.

According to the latest reports, in recent months a major part of the US Navy has been deployed in and around the Persian Gulf.

The fleet is armed with nuclear weapons and cruise missiles and carries hundreds of aircraft and rapid reaction forces.

When Damascus goes, its on for sure. The imminent return gets extremely imminent.

They are under the influence of a global demon. Demons on the whole are not people to take diplomacy pointers from all the time. The ones allowed to cause destruction, well, they cause destruction.

Their own destruction to begin with.

My guess would be yes, they will sit by, although they would likely give some logistical support to Israel. After all, the US and EU/UN ptb have an agenda that has as its main goal, eviscerating Israel as part of this charade of a ME peace plan.

Lebanon has long been occupied by Syria. Hizbolah is a Syrian sponsored terror group. Because Syria pulled out of Lebanon due to UN pressure, don't believe for a minute that Syrian strings control all that happen in the Lebanese government.
Prominent Lebanese who advocate independence are routinely assassinated by Syrian agents.

Lebanon is a slave state, it exists to do the will of Assad.
--In answer to your question, "Why is Syria dragging in Lebanon into this conflict?" Syria wants Lebanon to take the brunt of the casualties.
Hizbulah, another puppet of Syria tested the waters against Israel in the 2006 war. The destruction of Lebanon meant nothing to Syria as it garnered valuable data being used in the next war with Israel.

Syrian Army Movements on Lebanese Border

(IsraelNN.com) Syria has moved a military force, possibly as large as three divisions, to the border with Lebanon, according to Channel 2's Arab affairs expert Ehud Ya'ari.

Ya'ari said the reports of the troop movements came from Beirut and were preliminary in nature.

He added that the reports of a Hamas-Fatah accord in Sana'a were premature. The two factions announced they had reached an agreement because they both respect Yemen's leadership, he explained, but current tensions in the Arab world make such an agreement impossible at this time.

Cheney voices doubts on Hamas-Fatah reconciliation By Tabassum Zakaria

Cheney spoke to reporters following a breakfast meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, and a day after Abbas's Fatah faction and Hamas issued a declaration in Sanaa agreeing to resume dialogue under a Yemeni fence-mending initiative.

According to the report, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recently warned Syrian President Bashar al-Assad of the possibility of an Israeli attack in areas of Lebanon bordering Syria if Hizbullah were to attack Israel as it has threatened.

Hizbullah has issued several threats against Israel in recent weeks following the assassination of arch-terrorist Imad Mughniyeh. Hizbullah has accused Israel of involvement in Mughniyeh’s death. The group held a mass memorial rally in Beirut on Monday in which Hizbullah ...

Syria Masses Three Armored Divisions on Lebanon's Border

Night Watch: BEIRUT - Amid loudspeakers blaring verses from the Quran Hezbollah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah made his long awaited speech during a rally in south Beirut near the shrine to Imad Mughniyeh, the Hezbollah official Hezbollah-Damascus-Tehran accuse Israel of assassinating Feb. 12. The shrine has become a new place of pilgrimage to Hezbollah members and worshippers of Mughniyeh who disappearance was arranged by Tehran to set the stage for the expansion of the war around Jerusalem. Tehran is an expert at manipulating masses of Muslim people caught up in the cult of the celebrated death and directing them against a designated enemy, in this case Israel (Zionism), the target of Nasrallah's speech, "The Zionist entity can be wiped out of existence. Our nation is stronger than ever before. Zionist-American propaganda is aiming to harm our nation's consciousness. They, using their violent system, are trying to tell us that we are weak and powerless. They want to tell us that we don't have any hope of winning." [HAARETZ]

Haaretz reports Nasrallah referred to Hezbollah forcing Israel to withdraw from south Lebanon in 2000 and his militia's performance in 2006 altered the regional view of Israel's military. "The media has aggrandized this army and the Israeli soldier, officer and general. In the July war we were attacked by the Israeli army and the resistance withstood the great attack, breaking and shattering the army. We found and we saw the true nature of the Israel and the leader's generals, officers, soldiers and the Israeli tank? The nation that isn't facing bombings and banishment lived in bomb shelters for 33 days. Could Israel be wiped out of existence...

More about America and Ezekiel 38?
Jim Bramlett
Mar 24 2008 04:02PM

Dear friends:

My message titled "Where is America in Ezekiel 38" on March 22 discussed the attack on Israel in Ezekiel chapter 38 and the fact that, strangely, Israel's most powerful ally, the United States, is not mentioned or alluded to as coming to her defense. See http://www.injesus.com/index.php?module=me...roupID=2A004N9G .

I suggested four possible reasons why America is not mentioned. Below is one more, plus added information on the previous number 4.

1. Another possible reason. In response to my message, pastor friend F.M. Riley of Missouri added a fifth possible reason, and the possibility he cites is a valid one. He said it could be from a crippling natural disaster unlike any the nation has ever before experienced, but is known to be currently threatened.

Pastor Riley is a knowledgeable prophecy scholar and follows these things more than anyone I know. He said (an excerpt):
"Jim…. The New Madrid fault line is 65 years past due for a major earthquake. When the last major quake occurred on this fault line in 1811-12, the area was sparsely populated and there were few casualties. If such a major quake occurred today, there are ten million people living along or in close proximity to that fault line. Millions would die, especially if the entire Mississippi River basin slipped beneath the sea…. Add to this the Hayward fault line in California which is overdue for a major quake and is showing every sign of breaking loose with a major quake in the near future. The Hayward fault line feeds right into the San Andreas fault and also into Yellowstone National Park. If the Hayward goes, it is very likely that half or more of California will drop off into the Pacific, and that the Yellowstone caldera will break open and explode into violent eruption. All of this could all happen in just one 24 hour period, and when it is over there will no longer be a nation here."
(Note: To me, the Yellowstone possibility is especially ominous. If that blows it has been estimated that everyone within a radius of hundreds of miles -- millions -- will die. Personally, I see this as possibility after the rapture.)

2. An anti-Israel President? The number 4 possibility in my previous e-mail was that a future U.S. President would be dedicated to disarming the United States and/or be anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian, ignoring past commitments to Israel. God forbid, as it is bad enough now.
Barack Obama: Since many are saying that Barack Obama will win the Democratic nomination and will probably be the next President, below is more relevant information that has come to me.

a. Obama anti-Israel? According to www.israelnationalnews.com, an Arab activist, Ali Abunimah, claims to know Obama well and that he has met him on numerous occasions at pro-Palestinian events in Chicago. He says that Obama is hiding an anti-Israel stance.

b. An Obama connection to terrorists is being discussed by various sources. There is a far-reaching scandal brewing for presidential hopeful Obama, says a radio talk show host based in Oregon. Syndicated talk host Laurie Roth's revelations make the news story about Obama's relationship with a racist, anti-American pastor look like child's play. A top official at the Pentagon during former-President George H. W. Bush's Administration and a former CIA intelligence officer maintain that Barack Obama and former Weather Underground honcho William Ayers funneled money to Professor Rashid Khalidi, a known terrorist sympathizer. Khalidi serves on the faculty of Columbia University in New York and is best known as the professor who invited Iranian President Ahmedinejad to visit Columbia University after he finished his speech at the United Nations. According to confidential sources, Khalidi has direct ties to the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), a group on the US State Department's list of known terrorist groups.

Similar information about Obama and possible terrorism ties is summarized at http://www.fivedoves.com/letters/mar2008/mjm324-3.htm.

John Stephenson of NewsBusters, says: "Barack Obama has been running his campaign in the style of a revolutionary. Just how radical and liberal Obama is has been well hidden by the campaign. If you haven't heard about his friendship with the leaders of the radical group, the Weather Underground , you can thank the media. ( Video Here.) Just how radically left this man is can be seen in what company he keeps."

Rick Moran asks the ultimate question: "Will the media expose Obama? Will they criticize Senator McCain if he tries to paint Obama as a radical? Will they dig deep into Obama's associations and associates to discover the truth?"

Hillary Clinton:

Hillary Clinton is not off the hook here. It has just been revealed that Hillary Clinton's top confidante is assistant editor of an Islamic journal. Huma Abedin, the top confidante and closest aide for Hillary Clinton, is an assistant editor to an Islamic Journal called "Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs" http://www.imma.org.uk/editorialboard.htm. See http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1989906/posts.
This is unbelievable!
We have long been concerned about the pervasive Islamic infiltration of our nation and our government. It now appears they have targeted Democratic Presidential candidates as their best hope to gain power and wield influence in an election the Democrats are expected to win.

The spiritual entity behind Islam. We know the identity of the spiritual entity behind Islam. We also know that this spiritual identity hates Israel and has always tried to annihilate the Jews. We also know he is clever and devious. It should be no surprise that he is trying to exercise his influence in the next President of the United States.

But we also know that this spiritual entity is a defeated foe, and the God of Israel and our Lord Jesus Christ will have His own way to accomplish His good purposes. Bless His name forever.

If any such Islamic influence is determined as affecting John McCain, I will immediately report it and it should be widely publicized, as I hope this will be.

Jim

Hizbullah’s indirect war

In other words: The way to bring down the State of Israel not through fire and slaughter, but rather, by flooding Israeli society with drugs. This is not paranoia. This Hizbullah strategy is well known in Israel for two decades at least.

In the past, the indirect war included another area: Forging foreign currency, and particularly dollars, for the purpose of distributing it in Israel and using it to acquire weapons in the West. The forgeries were of relatively poor quality and therefore they died away. The drugs, on the other hand, are a matter of stable and ancient tradition on this front that has been enabling several clans to make a living for hundreds of years now.

Hizbullah took over the smuggling rings and routes and enlisted the drugs for the purpose of its “indirect war” on Israel.

It is no coincidence that the person orchestrating this project from Beirut is a former Arab-Israeli, senior Hizbullah figure Kais Obeid. He started his career as a drug dealer in Israel who escaped to Lebanon. He was also the man who managed to lay the trap for former captive Elchanan Tannenbaum through a scheme that involved drug deals.

It is for good reason that Hizbullah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah adopted Obeid’s ideas and turned them into a part of the organization’s operational doctrine. This effort is profitable, it pushes Israel into a black market economy, and it poisons Israelis. In any case, Nasrallah perceives Israel to be a rotten and weak society whose days are numbered. Flood it with drugs, and it will be lost in the drug-induced high.

And so, for years now Hizbullah has maintained poppy fields in Lebanon’s Beqaa region and producing opium and heroin in labs. Nasrallah also has business connections with drug cartels in South America, where some of the organization’s funds come from.

Hizbullah members themselves do not deal with drug smuggling directly. They take advantage of existing rings. Therefore, anyone who gets close to drugs in Lebanon knows that it is operating under Hizbullah’s patronage. Initially, about 15 years ago, the dealers required passage permits from Hizbullah, which controlled the roads. Today we are talking about operational ties in the full sense of the word. By the way, this is why the IDF fires at drug smugglers as if they were terrorists.

Rift is deepening
In order to improve the drug smuggling into Israel, drug dealers from Lebanon recruited Israeli collaborators, mostly non-Jews. Some of them serve in the army and the clans they come from are related to the drug trade; and the road from drugs to treason and espionage is short. For example, before the IDF withdrew from Lebanon, Arab Israelis assisted Hizbullah members in hiding weapons inside Israeli territory. The weapons awaited infiltrators who were supposed to come into Israel in order to carry out terror attacks (as was the case in the Metzuba attack in 2003.)

In fact, almost every year we see one kind of such drug-related espionage ring or another being uncovered, along with the involvement of Arab Israelis. This time around the story is apparently more severe than the previous one, because several Arabs are suspected of involvement. The information handed over to Hizbullah is not necessarily strategic, yet Hizbullah doesn’t look for such information. It seeks information that would expose vulnerable points in the system so that it can carry out a terror attack or abduction.

To that end, even traitors who are not motivated by fundamentalist ideological zeal, but rather, by greed, are effective enough.

In the wake of the latest affair, the IDF Northern Command engaged in a process of self-examination in relation to the non-Jewish career officers operating in this sector. This is apparently not enough. After all, it is impossible for soldiers to be operating on the border without being able to trust their non-commissioned officer and fearing that he will sell them out to the enemy. This rift with Israel’s minority groups is deepening, and goes beyond the confines of the Northern Command and IDF.

Let a 'peace contract' precede an actual treaty

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert announced two weeks ago in the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that Israel would continue to negotiate with PA President Mahmoud Abbas for peace in the West Bank on the one hand; while on the other hand, it would fight Hamas in Gaza as if there were no peace negotiations.

Those who object to a peace treaty with the Palestinians raise the familiar arguments regarding Abbas's weakness and Hamas's refusal to recognize Israel's right to exist. They say - with a fair amount of justice - that signing a treaty with Abbas over the West Bank could result in Katyushas falling not just on Ashkelon and Sderot from Gaza, but also on Nahariya and Ben-Gurion Airport from the West Bank.

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid...icle%2FShowFull

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

an actual peace treaty

could be this be the one?

Quote:
One such creative solution is for Israel and the PLO to formulate and jointly present a formal "peace contract" - with one categorical condition: The contract would transform itself into an actual peace treaty, with all that implies, when the West Bank and the Gaza Strip - on which the future Palestinian state is to arise - is under the rule of a single political authority, elected on the basis of the peace contract.

When the time is right, general elections would be held (also in Israel), and if the parties supporting the peace contract obtain a majority, the governments formed would be constituted as peace governments to implement the contract.

This process would ensure a smooth transition from peace contract to peace treaty. Each side would be fully aware of the facts and be able to take steps accordingly to create conditions in which the peace treaty could be signed - or they could choose to fight each other until the end of days.

So here comes a covenant and then later comes the confirmation.

WOW!!!!

Oh please let it be soon LORD...

o
Well, you have to have an AC who will make the 7 yr treaty with Israel.

Once that is signed the 70th week begins. I don't see any key person that fits that scenario. At least not yet.

So here comes a covenant and then later comes the confirmation.

this is the more shockin newa ever!'

Palestinian state is to arise - is under the rule of a single political authority, elected on the basis of the peace contract

26And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.

27And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Well, since this so-called peace process has been trudging along now since 1993, I suspect this is just more intellectual "wheel spinning." Nothing to get excited about here, imho.

I hope this is the peace treaty we've been waiting for. I pray this will bring us closer to the rapture.

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - The United States on Tuesday questioned the value of monthly public meetings of the U.N. Security Council on the Middle East, saying the angry speeches delivered often made the problem worse.

"The polarization and divisions of the United Nations membership over the conflict all too often manifest themselves as heated political statements," U.S. Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad told this month's meeting of the 15-nation council.

These "do little to help advance the cause of peace or help the Palestinian people in any tangible way," he said.

The meetings have been held for the past six years and focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Lebanon. They typically consist of a briefing from a senior U.N. official followed by speeches from council members and other parties with a direct interest in the situation.

Khalilzad said the United States wanted to see a "difference on the ground" in the Middle East and an effort to negotiate creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.

"If these types of meetings do not contribute to that effort, or worse, if they fuel the tensions that impede constructive engagement, then we need to ask ourselves whether the public format of debates in New York truly helps create the environment necessary" for a solution, he said.

Khalilzad told reporters later that some countries used the meetings "for posturing, for finger-pointing, for further polarizing, for scoring points."

6 Christian Fellowship: / End Time Topics / MARCH UPDATE by David Dolan 3/25 on: Today at 05:22:10pm

SHALOM FROM JERUSALEM,

Below is my Israel news and analysis report covering the main news events during March—a month overflowing with important developments. The worst ever Hamas rocket assault upon Israel and the army’s response tops the news, along with the terror massacre in Jerusalem and new tensions with Hizbullah in the north. Yesterday actually marked the end of the 40 day mourning period that Hizbullah declared over the car bombing death of the Shiite Muslim group’s most notorious terrorist plotter, after which group leaders indicated they would launch significant revenge attacks upon Israel and Jewish targets abroad. Israeli forces are on full alert this week to prevent or quickly respond to any such actions.

Here in Israel, the small community of Jewish, Arab, and expatriate believers are praying for the 16 year old teenage boy—Ami Ortiz—who was severely injured when a package he was opening at his family’s home in the town or Ariel exploded last Thursday. Some have written to ask if I know the Ortiz family. Several years ago, I interviewed Ami’s father, David, who pastors a congregation in the town. The interview, conducted for a major media outlet, centered on several violent attacks against former Muslims from northern Samaria who had become Christians under David’s ministry. While police initially suspected Muslim terrorists had delivered the Purim style gift package to the home, media reports say they are now leaning toward pining responsibility on anti-missionary Jewish groups who have publicly opposed David’s presence in Ariel.

According to a report sent out by my longtime friend Ron Cantor, who met with David on Sunday, doctors had warned Ami’s parents yesterday morning that they would probably have to amputate at least one of his severely injured limbs (he earlier lost some toes). However, the senior doctor later informed them that Ami had made “miraculous” progress in his recovery during the day, and would therefore not need any amputations after all! The Chief Physician answers prayer! Still, Ami has many serious wounds and skin burns that will necessitate additional operations, unless of course the miracles go on! Thanks for all around the world who have joined in prayer for Ami and his family.

FIGHTING ROCKS THE SOUTH AMID TENSION IN THE NORTH

By David Dolan

March roared in like a lion as Hamas continued to pulverize Israeli communities in what became the group’s largest rocket barrage since Jewish residents and IDF forces evacuated the Gaza Strip in August 2005. An Israeli man was killed when a rocket exploded in the besieged town of Sderot. For the first time, longer range Grad rockets supplied by Iran were aimed at the coastal city of Ashkelon, hitting several homes and cars. Israeli ground forces then entered the Gaza Strip, attacking rocket firing positions amid heavy Hamas counterattacks, which caused additional casualties on both sides.

The threatened Hamas terrorist reaction to “Operation Hot Winter” came swift and furious, as a young Arab resident of Jerusalem infiltrated a Jewish seminary in the heart of Israel’s capital city. The lone terrorist fired hundreds of bullets at dozens of young students studying there, killing seven teenage males and one young adult, and wounding eight others. That in turn ignited Orthodox-led rioting one week later in the Jerusalem Arab neighborhood where the terrorist had resided with his parents.

Meanwhile Israeli forces were ordered on heightened alert as the 40 day official mourning period for an assassinated Hizbullah leader with close ties to Iran came to an end. The rogue Iranian regime and its Lebanese militia proxy force have vowed to avenge the Damascus slaying—which they blame on Israel—in a major way. Saying Iranian, Syrian and Al Qaida leaders were whipping up war fever with both Palestinian and Lebanese Islamic militant groups, security officials announced that the largest ever home front exercises will be held throughout the country in early April.

The end of the mourning period coincided with a visit to Israel by American Vice President Dick Cheney, which closely followed a two day stopover by Republican presidential hopeful Senator John McCain. Both US politicians spoke strongly about the continuing Iranian-Hizbullah-Hamas threat against Israel, vowing to stand with the Jewish state if any major military action breaks out.

HAMAS ON THE WARPATH

The Hamas rocket blitz against Israeli civilian centers began just one day after last month’s news report was filed. On Tuesday night, February 26, Israeli military forces spotted a wanted Islamic Jihad terrorist leader operating near the Gaza border fence. They said he was apparently involved in an operation to plant landmines near the security fence (one later killed an Israeli soldier). He was quickly shot dead by IDF marksmen.

Early the next day, Israeli troops entered the Palestinian town of Nablus, north of Jerusalem, to arrest members of a Fatah terror cell they said was planning to carry out an imminent attack in a nearby Israeli city. In the ensuing firefight, one of the wanted men was killed and four others wounded. Later that morning, Israeli Air Force jets went into action over the Gaza Strip, bombing a van that officials said was transporting five wanted Hamas gunmen who had recently returned to the area after receiving military training in Syria and Iran.

Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip then ordered their rocket squads into full-scale action, lobbing over 40 Kassam rockets into the nearby Israeli town of Sderot in just a matter of hours. One rocket killed a 47 year old student from the Sderot’s Sapir College, which has struggled to stay open during the past few months of escalating rocket assaults upon the beleaguered town.

The victim, Ronnie Yechiya, left behind a bereaved wife and four children. Several of the 7,000 students who attend the college were wounded as the rocket exploded in a parking lot next to Yechiya’s car. Israeli jets went into immediate action, targeting the Palestinian squad that fired the rockets. At least one of the shooters was killed in that action.

ASHKELON UNDER FIRE

Within hours of the rocket barrage and IDF response, the Israeli coastal resort city of Ashkelon—with around 120,000 residents—came under sustained Palestinian rocket assault for the first time ever. At least four Grad rockets landed in the city just after sunset, one close to the city’s Barzilai hospital where some of the Israeli students wounded earlier in the day were being treated. Another landed in the Mediterranean Sea close to the Dan Hotel, the city’s largest seafront resort. A third Grad, apparently targeting city hall, destroyed the car of Ashkelon’s mayor.

Security officials say the advanced rockets, with a range of at least 10 miles compared to the Kassam’s average four mile limit, and with explosive warheads some three times more powerful than the homemade Palestinian rockets, were recently smuggled into the Gaza Strip after being supplied to Hamas by Iran, possibly via Syria. A media source at the scene of the Grad explosion that destroyed the mayor’s car told me officials found markings in the Iranian Farsi language on fragments of the rocket.

Israeli government and military leaders had always warned that a major attack upon the bustling coastal city would be considered a serious escalation in the Iranian-backed Muslim fundamentalist jihad war against the detested Jewish state. The decision was then taken at the highest levels to target the Gaza City offices of former Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, despite the fact that the senior Hamas politician was known to be in hiding since the group stepped up its rocket attacks in mid-February. The Air Force operation, carried out in the early hours of February 28, partially destroyed the empty offices. Sadly, the raid also killed a baby and wounded around 30 Palestinians living nearby.

Hamas leaders cynically expressed their “outrage” over the unintended casualties, despite the fact that they have been deliberately targeting Israeli civilians for many years now. Along with frenzied scenes of several funerals, their crocodile tears were repeatedly broadcast all over the Arab world by Al Jazeera and other satellite news networks, whipping up anti-Israel passions throughout the turbulent region.

Hamas leaders then ordered around ten more Grad rockets launched at Ashkelon, and at the western Negev town of Ofakim—located just five miles west of Israel’s fourth largest city, Beersheva. Similar to the rockets fired by Hizbullah forces at northern Israeli cities and towns during the 2006 war, the blasts left more Israelis wounded, including a 17 year old teenage girl whose Ashkelon home was directly hit during the fresh barrage. Almost three dozen Kassams were also lobbed at Sderot and other Israeli communities near the Gaza Strip.

PAYING THE PRICE

Israeli military forces responded to the unprecedented volume and range of Palestinian rocket assaults with additional ground and air operations in the Gaza Strip. Defense Minister Ehud Barak warned that a major military operation designed to sweep the Gaza Strip clean of Hamas militia and terrorist forces, and by implication Hamas political leaders as well, might be launched at any time. He said Israeli government officials would “not flinch from our duty to protect our citizens from rocket assaults,” adding ominously that “Hamas will pay the full price for its activities.”

Later in the month, Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh, a former army general like Barak, said bluntly that the fundamentalist Hamas movement would soon be entirely uprooted from the Gaza Strip. “Israel will not exist side by side with this Iranian entity just three kilometers from Sderot and 10 kilometers (just over six miles) from Ashkelon.”

Before the fighting died down on March 4, over 100 Palestinians had been killed, including the son of prominent Hamas parliament member Khalil Al-Haya. Although the young man was a trained Hamas fighter, Israeli officials admitted that his targeted killing was designed to send a stern warning to all Hamas leaders that they too could be located and wiped out if the escalating rocket attacks were not quickly halted.

Israeli forces suffered casualties as well. Two soldiers were killed and several others wounded during ground operations inside the northern Gaza Strip, from where most of the Kassam and Grad rockets were fired by trained Hamas and Islamic Jihad squads. A third soldier, an Arab Bedouin tracker from the Negev Desert, was killed on March 5 when a hidden landmine exploded under the vehicle he was patrolling in next to the Gaza border fence. Under condemnation from many Palestinians, Israeli Arab politicians and regional Arab news networks for allowing their son to serve in the IDF, his grieving parents asked local media outlets to withhold his identity from the public.

Sporadic rocket firings continued all month, spiking again on March 12 after elite IDF forces killed the head of the Islamic Jihad branch in Bethlehem, Muhammad Shehadeh, known to have been behind several terror attacks upon Israeli civilians in recent years. Three other wanted men were also killed in armed clashes with IDF soldiers. The militant Muslim terror group, which works closely with Hamas in the Gaza Strip and does not launch rocket attacks without its permission—and sometimes under its direct instructions—responded the next day by firing over 30 Kassams and mortar shells into areas around the Gaza Strip, causing damage but no casualties.

Saturation Arab and Iranian media coverage of Israeli military strikes on Gaza (amid scant reports on the Muslim rocket attacks upon Ashkelon or Sderot) were seized upon by Al Qaida leaders later in the month to urge revenge attacks against Jewish interests worldwide. With opinion surveys showing a large majority of Palestinians, 64%, strongly support Hamas rocket strikes upon Israeli civilian centers, Osama Bi Laden released an audio tape on March 21 calling for a new international “jihad war” to “liberate Palestine.” His deputy, Ayman Al-Zawahri, then released a tape on March 24 calling upon Muslims “to strike at Israeli and American interests everywhere,” since the Jews “gathered against us from everywhere.”

BROTHERS IN ARMS

Regional media reports claim off the record ceasefire negotiations are underway in Egypt between Israeli and Hamas officials. Ehud Olmert’s office strongly denied the reports. Despite this, many military analysts said some sort of back channel Egyptian-mediated talks did seem to be occurring, although undoubtedly indirectly.

Many Israeli politicians, including opposition leader Binyamin Netanyahu, condemned the reported talks, saying they only strengthened the stature of the radical Muslim group, which most agree scored major propaganda points once again during the early March Gaza fighting—using its women and children as human shields while decrying civilian casualties, and then hailing the same as shahid martyrs for the glorious Islamic cause. They added that previous experience demonstrated any military time outs only allowed Hamas and Islamic Jihad to get ready for the next round of rocket and terror assaults.

Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas harshly denounced the Israeli military action as “criminal” and “totally unjustified,” immediately breaking off American-sponsored peace talks with Israel. Analysts said this was largely due to massive street support for the Hamas bombing action, even by most Fatah leaders and supporters, intensified by the saturation Arab media coverage of the Palestinian non-combatant casualties. However Abbas backed down after visiting US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice arm twisted him into returning to the negotiation table, leading to the announcement that PA officials would resume peace talks when calm returned to the area. This came as both Israeli and Palestinian negotiators admitted that little actual progress has been made so far to reach George W. Bush’s stated goal of finalizing a peace treaty that would establish a Palestinian state by the end of this year.

In an attempt to heal the deep rift between the ruling PLO Fatah group and Hamas, the Arabian Peninsula country of Yemen invited officials from both sides to hold reconciliation talks in the country’s capital, Aden. After several days of acrimonious negotiations, Hamas leaders said they would not agree to the Yemeni proposal that they hand back control over the Gaza Strip to Fatah in order to be allowed to run once again in fresh Palestinian national elections. On a late March visit to Jerusalem, Russian Foreign Minister Sergie Lavrov urged both warring Palestinian sides to reach some sort of compromise accord, while Secretary of State Rice supported Israel’s position that Hamas cannot be allowed to return to any form of leadership role in the Palestinian Authority.

TERROR IN JERUSALEM

The Israeli capital suffered a major terrorist atrocity on March 6 after four years of relative calm following a three year Palestinian terror blitz that left over one hundred Jerusalem residents dead and many hundreds injured. Dozens of young Israeli religious students were gathered inside Mercaz HaRav yeshiva, one of Jerusalem oldest seminaries and the bedrock learning institution of the national religious movement, which strongly advocates Jewish resettlement in Judea and Samaria. They were gathered in a festive atmosphere to mark the beginning of the month of Adar II--a special leap month added every four years to keep the ancient Hebrew lunar calendar in line with the 365 day solar year.

Suddenly Ala Abu Dhaim, a 26 year old Arab from the southeast Jerusalem neighborhood of Jebel Mukaber, which abuts East Talpiot, burst into the seminary dressed as an Orthodox Jew. He immediately took his hidden AK-47 Kalashnikov automatic rifle out of a music case and opened fire. The Muslim terrorist managed to let loose around 600 bullets before being shot dead by an off duty IDF officer who heard the carnage from his nearby home and rushed into the building—past several Jerusalem policemen who were apparently hesitant to enter the fray, and are now under official investigation for their widely condemned non-action.

Before being killed, the wicked terrorist managed to kill seven teenage male students ranging in age from 15 to 19, all from Jerusalem or surrounding communities, along with a student in his mid 20s from the port city of Ashdod. Eight others were wounded, three seriously. The emotional funerals of the slaughtered students received extensive Israeli media coverage the next day—the eve of the weekly Sabbath—adding to the country’s grief as suddenly bereaved parents and siblings said goodbye to their young loved ones amid anguished cries and rivers of tears.

Heeding warnings from security officials that anti-Arab riots could break out at any time in response to the heinous massacre—which was publicly celebrated in many Palestinian cities and towns (an opinion poll commissioned by the New York Times revealed an astonishing 84% of West Bank Palestinians supported the atrocity)—Prime Minister Olmert told his cabinet the following Sunday that the government would not rest in its pursuit of Palestinian terrorists and those that support them. However he also rebuffed calls from many quarters that he immediately suspend peace talks with PA officials.

Indeed, some 22 young Jewish protestors were arrested during scuffles with security forces one week later as hundreds gathered near the terrorist’s home to denounce the massacre. Amid many shouts of “death to the Arabs,” several policemen and some of the protestors were injured in the three hour melee. Dozens of protestors managed to break thru a police cordon around the home and hurl stones at it, while others mimicked the popular Arab protest action of burning tires in nearby streets.

The incident came just days after several Jewish Jerusalem municipal inspectors were ambushed with rocks and stones as they drove through the heart of the Arab business district northwest of the Old City. Several of the Arab attackers attempted to tip the city car over that the inspectors were cowering in, as windows were smashed by the angry mob. The ugly scene, broadcast on Israeli television stations, spread fears that mass violence could once again return to Jerusalem streets. Later in the month, a Jewish rabbi was stabbed and wounded as he was walking near the Old City’s Damascus Gate.

DEMONS IN THE NORTH

Israeli forces were placed on an extra alert as the 40 day Muslim mourning period for slain Hizbullah terrorist mastermind Imad Mughniyeh came to an end on March 23. Iranian and Hizbullah leaders again blamed Israel for the February 12 killing in Damascus, a claim Israel has denied. Still, Israeli officials announced the holding of the largest ever countrywide war preparation drills beginning April 6. The massive five day emergency exercises will test preparations for a possible non-conventional chemical, biological and even nuclear weapons attack, involving military and civilian rescue and medical squads, hospitals, and other public emergency services. Air raid sirens will be sounded in many areas, with local residents asked to proceed to local bomb shelters as if an actual attack were taking place.

The unsettling drills will be held just a couple weeks after visiting American Vice President Dick Cheney said Iran may have resumed its nuclear weapons program—which Israeli leaders say is definitely the case. Along with visiting presidential candidate John McCain and Condoleezza Rice, he publicly vowed that the United States will stand by Israel if any major attack takes place. The same pledge was made with strong emotion by visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who pledged in a speech before the Israeli Knesset that her country will never allow another holocaust to take place against the Jewish people.

As Israel’s sixtieth birthday approaches in the midst of growing violence and gathering war clouds—a country created in the virtual ashes of the Nazi mass slaughter—we can take heart in the fact that “Surely in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel” (Jeremiah 3:23).

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israel has decided against buying a U.S.-produced anti-rocket laser for the border with the Hamas-run Gaza Strip because of the device's poor performance in field tests, a top Israeli defense official said on Monday.

Israeli state arms firm Rafael is developing Iron Dome, which is designed to shoot down Palestinian rockets from Gaza with miniature missiles, but that system is not expected to be operational before 2010.

Seeking a stop-gap countermeasure, Defense Ministry director-general Pinchas Buchris flew to the United States last week to re-evaluate Nautilus, an Israeli-U.S. invention that uses a laser to blow up rockets and mortar bombs mid-flight.

Israeli experts had previously written off Nautilus -- which is being upgraded under a new name, Skyguard -- as unreliable, and Israel's Army Radio said Buchris had found little improvement.

"Were we to order it as is,
