DEBKAfile Reports: Dismay in Washington and Jerusalem over Tony Blair’s first steps as Middle East Quartet’s envoy

June 28, 2007, 11:10 AM (GMT+02:00)

Shortly after the former British prime minister stepped into his new job, he assured Russia and the Europeans that he did not mean to adhere to the US-Israeli boycott of Hamas. One of his first tasks would be to establish ties with Hamas representatives in Gaza and Damascus.

DEBKAfile’s Washington sources report that the British politician conveyed this intention in a telephone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin Tuesday, June 26. This assurance persuaded Moscow to drop its resistance to naming him envoy. Those sources affirm that Blair’s sudden turnaround contradicts the understandings he reached with US president George W. Bush and secretary of state Condoleezza Rice on his leave-taking visit earlier this month.

German chancellor Angela Merkel is also looking askance at the new Blair strategy. Thursday, June 28, she commented: “Tony Blair’s mandate as new Middle East envoy would be limited and he would report to the international Quartet, not the other way round.”

Concern was also voiced in Washington over the new British prime minister Gordon Brown’s appointment of David Miliband as foreign secretary.

One US official remarked that if Brown, Miliband and Blair and their advisers coordinated Middle East policies, then Washington and Jerusalem had plenty to worry them.

"Former British Prime Minister Blair Abruptly Changes Position

Even the newly appointed Middle East Peace Envoy, Tony Blair, suddenly and without any public warning, shifted positions from the Palestinian Authority to Hamas! This switch is unbelievable!

NEWS BRIEF: "Dismay in Washington and Jerusalem over Tony Blair’s first steps as Middle East Quartet’s envoy", DEBKAfile Intelligence, June 28, 2007

"Shortly after the former British prime minister stepped into his new job, he assured Russia and the Europeans that he did not mean to adhere to the US-Israeli boycott of Hamas. One of his first tasks would be to establish ties with Hamas representatives in Gaza and Damascus."

Before he made this position change public, Blair informed Russian President Putin, not his old buddy, President Bush! Why did Blair tell Putin and not Bush?

"... the British politician conveyed this intention in a telephone conversation with Russian president Vladimir Putin Tuesday, June 26. This assurance persuaded Moscow to drop its resistance to naming him envoy. Those sources affirm that Blair’s sudden turnaround contradicts the understandings he reached with US president George W. Bush and secretary of state Condoleezza Rice on his leave-taking visit earlier this month."

So, Blair's sudden reversal in position regarding Hamas occurred just 10 days after Hamas pulled off the massive intelligence haul! We are going to see other surprising switches in diplomatic positions in the next few days and months, as leaders around the globe -- but particularly in the Middle East -- scramble to figure out the best way to keep damning information from getting publicized concerning their dastardly cooperation with America and Israel.

President Bush may very well discover that his support from Arab governments in the Middle East has disappeared as rapidly as the morning dew retreats from the hot rising Sun."

We should keep our eyes out for sure now. The king of Syria can't be far from the situation, and whats more, after revisiting Daniel again - I think we may be nearing the time when the small horn rises among the 4 horns on the goat from the west. It is one of my theories that the Quartet of nations intent on signing a treaty between Isreal and the Palestinians may be represented by the 4 horns of the goat in dan. 8 - now only waiting for the small horn to rise and make the covenant between them. (The 'Nations' in the Quartet are: United States, United Nations, European Union, and Russia)
The fact that Blair is acting in this way to me only indicates that his 'horn' is playing an active role. It may not be him, or it may - but either way, a 'small horn' will be on the goat and it will do as it pleases. I also think this passage speaks of the wests invasion into Iraq and soon possibly Iran (Media/Persia). Right now, three of the horns (Russia, USA, EU) are pressuring the 4th horn (UN) to broker a deal with the king of Syria. For more on king of Syria see Daniel 11 - 12. They feel this is mainly all that is neccesary to get the roadmap to peace underway (sign the covenant/peace treaty).

1 In the third year that Belshazzar was king, I saw a second vision. 8.1 Beginning at 8.1, the rest of this book is in Hebrew (see 2.4).2 In the vision I suddenly found myself in the walled city of Susa in the province of Elam. I was standing by the River Ulai, 3 and there beside the river I saw a ram that had two long horns, one of which was longer and newer than the other. 4 I watched the ram butting with his horns to the west, the north, and the south. No animal could stop him or escape his power. He did as he pleased and grew arrogant.
5 While I was wondering what this meant, a goat came rushing out of the west, moving so fast that his feet didn't touch the ground. He had one prominent horn between his eyes. 6 He came towards the ram, which I had seen standing beside the river, and rushed at him with all his force. 7 I watched him attack the ram. He was so angry that he smashed into him and broke the two horns. The ram had no strength to resist. He was thrown to the ground and trampled on, and there was no one who could save him.
8 The goat grew more and more arrogant, but at the height of his power his horn was broken. In its place four prominent horns came up, each pointing in a different direction. 9 Out of one of these four horns grew a little horn, whose power extended towards the south and the east and towards the Promised Land. 10 It grew strong enough to attack the army of heaven, the stars themselves, and it threw some of them to the ground and trampled on them. 8.10: Rev 12.411 It even defied the Prince of the heavenly army, stopped the daily sacrifices offered to him, and desecrated the Temple. 12 People sinned there instead of offering the proper daily sacrifices, 8.12 People...sacrifices; Hebrew unclear.and true religion was thrown to the ground. The horn was successful in everything it did.
13 Then I heard one angel ask another, “How long will these things that were seen in the vision continue? How long will an awful sin replace the daily sacrifices? How long will the army of heaven and the Temple be trampled on?”
14 I heard the other angel answer, “It will continue for 2,300 evenings and mornings, during which sacrifices will not be offered. Then the Temple will be restored.”
The Angel Gabriel Explains the Vision
15 I was trying to understand what the vision meant, when suddenly someone was standing in front of me. 16 I heard a voice call out over the River Ulai, “Gabriel, explain to him the meaning of what he saw.” 8.16: Lk 1.19, 2617 Gabriel came and stood beside me, and I was so terrified that I fell to the ground.
He said to me, “Mortal man, understand the meaning. The vision has to do with the end of the world.” 18 While he was talking, I fell to the ground unconscious. But he took hold of me, raised me to my feet, 19 and said, “I am showing you what the result of God's anger will be. The vision refers to the time of the end.
20 “The ram you saw that had two horns represents the kingdoms of Media and Persia. 21 The goat represents the kingdom of Greece, and the prominent horn between his eyes is the first king. 22 The four horns that came up when the first horn was broken represent the four kingdoms into which that nation will be divided and which will not be as strong as the first kingdom.
23 “When the end of those kingdoms is near and they have become so wicked that they must be punished, there will be a stubborn, vicious, and deceitful king. 24 He will grow strong — but not by his own power. He will cause terrible destruction and be successful in everything he does. He will bring destruction on powerful men and on God's own people. 25 Because he is cunning, he will succeed in his deceitful ways. He will be proud of himself and destroy many people without warning. He will even defy the greatest King of all, but he will be destroyed without the use of any human power. 26 This vision about the evening and morning sacrifices which has been explained to you will come true. But keep it secret now, because it will be a long time before it does come true.”
27 I was depressed and ill for several days. Then I got up and went back to the work that the king had assigned to me, but I was puzzled by the vision and could not understand it.

Dan 8.

(Nation of Greece could easily represent Western Modern powers, as well as Nation of Romans could also.)

I'm sorry if this is posted in the wrong section, but please let me know what you think of this theory.

Also, this clip from a year ago may help you understand where 2 of the horns are coming from in this process:
