I read a lot of news headlines. Rarely does anything make my heart skip a beat any more, but this really got my attention. Check this out:

Baghdad, Jun. 6, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Iraqi Christians oppose a plan to create an "Assyrian ghetto" in northern Iraq as an enclave for Christians, according to an analysis by the AsiaNews service. The plan, however, has strong backing from some Iraqis living abroad, AsiaNews notes.

The proposal for a Christian enclave has gained backing because of the steady campaign of violence and intimidation aimed at the Christian minority in Iraq.

The AsiaNews analysis explains that the proposal to create an "Assyrian enclave" adjacent to Kurdistan has the backing of Christians in the US. The proposal could be on the agenda when President George W. Bush meets with Pope Benedict on June 8.

Last year the US bishops wrote to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to suggest the possibility of creating a new “administrative region” around Niniveh, to "provide Christians and other minorities with greater safety and offer more opportunity to control their own affairs.”

But Iraqi Christians are skeptical about a plan that would concentrate the Christian population in one area, providing a convenient target for Muslim extremists. Moreover, opponents told AsiaNews, the proposal “reduces Christians to an ethnic group and puts an end to the Church’s mission, which is that of working and witnessing the Gospel among nations.”
------------

Loosely speaking, Niniveh and Mosel are interchangeable terms. Many of you know that I support the view that the Antichrist will be an Assyrian (also possibly connected to Rome somehow). I have also conjectured recently that his modest beginnings may stem from the Mosel/Niniveh area of Iraq. It is the false prophet who is 'like a lamb' and therefore somehow an apostate Christian, but the Assyrians are traditionally a Christian people - at least in a cultural sense. Ultimately the antichrist will not respect the god of his fathers, be he the God of the Christians or the god of the Muslims.

Anyway, hopefully you are wondering what my Biblical support for this position is. I don't have time to get into it right now but some soon I'll explain why I hold this position.

i agree..this could be huge...the Bible is clear in the fact that the anti comes from iraq and starts with a small country first...imagine a man in iraq, brokers a peace among the sunnis/shias, has close ties with the pope, then brokers a peace deal with Israel...he would be seen as a man of peace, accepted by the Eu, us, arabs and Israel about the only ones that wouldnt love him at first might be china and russia and the Bible says troulbe from the north (russia) and east (china) cause him trouble.....

Yes, thank you. I neglected to mention the source of the article - Catholic World News. The Bishops who proposed this were Catholic Bishops from the United States. It's interesting that they refer to the region as Nineveh, not Mosel. Nineveh of course being built by Nimrod. God says that he has revealed the end from the beginning. Basically as far as the nations are concerned, Nimrod kicked off the post-flood era with an attempt at global government. His wife Semiramis introduced the religious mysteries that one can view mostly in tact in the teachings of the Catholic Church. The coming world leader will start small but in the end his sway will cover the globe.

By the way, the Spanish news agency Expatica is reporting that U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon "is considering stepping up [the UN's] presence [in Iraq] following his recent visit there."
